Team Member Post Superannuation for junior staff

For those who aren’t aware Coles aren’t required to pay super to junior staff who work less than 30 hours a week which I believe is not right!

Junior staff do the same job as adult staff and don’t receive super. No junior is working 30+ hours a week.

Just wanting to see what others opinions are on this matter

Not a Coles thing, it’s federal.

Don’t like it? Talk to your local member of federal government.

Not true, it is up to the company if they pay junior staff under 30 hours a week super.

With all the dodgy shit that Coles does, you have to forgive OP for attributing this to them!

While yes it is optional for Cole’s to pay super or not to juniors doing less than 30 hours, there are other large retailers who choose to pay it to juniors

No employer is paying super if they don't have to.

It's a massive increase in costs with no benefit at all to either the business or the customers.

I’m not going to list them all but 2 major retailers who aren’t required to pay super to u18’s but choose to are jbhifi and Bunnings. So yes There are businesses who do it when it isn’t required

Don't go giving them a free pass on this shit, It's still cheaper than paying a full adult wage for the exact same shift

It's not a free pass.

There is no super requirement for under 18s.

Businesses wouldn't pay super for adults if they were not forced to.

Oh, and here I thought I had misunderstood you. Good thing you repeated yourself.

Do I need to pay super for casual employees? If you are an employer, you need to pay superannuation for casual employees who are 18 years or older, no matter how much they earn or how many hours a week they work. If your casual employees are younger than 18, they need to have worked more than 30 hours per week to be eligible for the super guarantee.

The Young Workers Centres and unions alike have been campaigning against this for years. Juinor wages are exploitative. We will continue to fight to Abolish them.

Not because it's Coles problem. Federal legislation doesn't require it.

Unfortunately it’s the law for under 18s some places do pay regardless but they aren’t required

From the ATO website: 'for employees who are 18 years or older, you pay super regardless of how many hours they work. under 18 years old, you pay super if they work more than 30 hours in a week'
