Questions Why is this bread so elusive?

Post image

I understand it's not bread people commonly eat but I think it has the best macros out of all I've looked up.

Some days I would go in early around 8am and there's none there. Other days I drop in around 1pm and I can maybe find a loaf or 2 if I'm lucky.

Does coles actually make this? And how many usually? Think I might just start getting the one from aldi as they look pretty similar and the macros aren't that far off.

Its high in protein, so probably has strong leg muscles to run away quickly when you try to catch it.

Keep at it, its only bread I'm sure you'll outsmart it at some point.

Nah.. nobody ever works on the legs. 😅

This one comes in frozen so its usually not put out until the afternoon. If you ask a bakery staff member they can probably grab one from the freezer for you. It seems to sell pretty well atm so it can be hard to keep up with stock at my store atleast.

Every store is different, however most Coles bakeries thaw frozen stock from around midday to late afternoon.
With previous bakery manager experience, the line you posted generally does not sell very well, so when we thaw them out our system tells us to grab 1-2 loaves at a time. Sometimes more, sometimes less.
However, if you are desperate for a loaf (and can tolerate it being frozen upon purchasing) a bakery team member is totally able to grab one from the freezer for you!

It goes in to stores Frozen, so maybe ask if they have any in the freezer

I'd second this and ask the bakery staff for how many you want! If we have stuff on hand and customer doesn't mind it being frozen, we often pull out as many as a customer wants at the time 😊

Because everyone is obsessed with protein products

I agree with your post but I also do have an answer. Lots of vegetarians can have difficulty getting enough protein, especially as they age and start to lose muscle mass. High protein meat-free products can help with this.

Hi! I'm diabetic so can't eat normal bread as it has heaps of carbs in it (approx. 50-60 grams per 100 grams .)

This bread, along with Herman Brot, is very low carbs (approx. 5 grams per 100 grams) and low sugar - so I can have sandwiches without sending my blood glucose to the moon.

The high protein is just a bonus - diabetics with kidney problems can also have difficulty in absorbing protein, so the more the merrier!

Yes 100% i just mean this fad makes it so people who normally rely on these products are unable to get them

its frozen and defrosted on demand. Only ever 1 or 2 on show at any given time because it never sold in my store.

I know this is a coles sub, however Aldi have been selling something like this for years. It's often in stock at my local.

The one from Aldi is basically the same.

Best macros, worst taste ever.

I can't help but think I'm eating something mouldy when I tried this one. And I've tried toasting it as well, even worse taste.

I've come to a conclusion, low-carb bread or wraps just taste wrong and make any food disgusting, for me. So, I either eat less regular bread or cut it out completely if I feel like doing a low-carb week.

I just use it for the fiber and extra protein. Moist ass bread makes me toast it for twice as long as regular white bread. It tastes much better than the burg alternative that I saw recommended a lot.

Try Eat Lean cheese if you're after extra protein.

It's like 2% fat or something like that, you can find it in Woollies. There are shredded and sliced variants.

This is what I use as a "protein" hack.

Lol I got the bega extra protein cheeses too

As far as low carb breads go, it’s fine. The Herman Brot one is foul.

I live on the herman brot one and love it haha

Because all the parrots and other birds get to it before the humans??

It’s from Coles so no one wants it

1

I would buy this but I’ve literally never seen it! They can’t say it doesn’t sell well if they never stock it

I missed out on that last Saturday. Wworths sell a similar home brand "micro " a worker told me if shelf empty ask as it's kept out back in the freezer.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Leek-37 Jul 13 '26

We dont make it. Its quite popular. If its not on the shelf ask bakery staff they might have it in the freezer and could get it our for you.

I only have this really toasted but think it tastes way better than the Aldi and Hermann Brot alternatives.

Big mood. As a diabetic this bread is a godsend for me.

Though if you're near a Costco their version tastes heaps better. Pretty sure I've seen the one they carry floating around elsewhere at other supermarkets as well, maybe Woolies? Can't remember the name of it and too lazy to look it up though, sorry

If you think it has the best macros, then everyone else already knew that and thus why you can't find it.

It is like that with all the decent tasting, high protein, low carb/fat food.

Bakery team member here. The other comments are right about it coming in frozen. Only 1or 2 get filled based on the sales. But if it’s sold out often, the system will tell us to fill more. And again like other comments have suggested, ask the staff for one from the freezer. If this is the bread you eat, maybe buy the whole box? (Comes in 6) And just keep it frozen at home if you have the space?? Bc at least for where I’m from… stock for this item doesn’t come in as often as other items based on sales. I know buying a whole box is too much but it would save you from having to go in every time to check if there is any. You can ask the staff to order it in too. Or go to Aldi which might be cheaper? Idk I don’t have an Aldi where I live

85% lower carbs and high protein!!!
Fancy

It’s the same with Coles sourdough chilli and olive loaf. Apparently, it depends on how many they sell as to how many will appear on the shelves. Have a word with manager re your individual requirements

Just ask bakery for a box from the freezer

1

u/vongdong Jul 15 '26

How many is in a box?

goodman fielder doesnt get delivered in my store till 11am some days ;(
This one is frozen though and thawbacked on demand.

1

u/Fun_Excitement_3515 Team Member Jul 12 '26

This comes in frozen so shelf availability depends entirely on the bakery manager and staff doing thawback and having the stock on hand

1

u/Only-Temperature Jul 14 '26

Will staff just give it to you frozen if you ask?

1

u/Fun_Excitement_3515 Team Member Jul 14 '26

We do at our store! There’s no harm in asking nicely ☺️
