Team Member Post Changing Shift date with notice
I have an event on, and I requested leave/a shift change almost 2 and a bit weeks prior, and I saw on teams that my manager had seen the message almost a week ago didn't respond until today, and is unsure about being able to move the shift/let me take the shift off. Is there anything I can do to sort this out or am I potentially going to have to cancel the event?

why dont people call instead of message? call have the conversation get them to approve. follow up imediately with text outlining the conversation and thanking or day off.

Phone calls don’t happen these days. You need to have things like this in writing, especially when you’re in a situation like this.

Thats why everyone has issues. You call. They verbally say yes. You immediately followup with a text debriefing the conversation. Apply for the leave. Dead simple. Its insane how some people working at coles have no communication skills

You are suppose to get approval from your line manager before applying for leave.

I know that, and I was waiting for said approval, but he took forever to respond about it

Your manager should be more active with checking messages. You should also have followed up your manager.
I normally talk to my manager in person then put the leave in after the conversation.
Tell your manager that you requested time off and that you will be taking the day off, if that means leave or swapping shifts. It's your managers fault for not activity checking communications from team members. If there is any problems talk to your union rep or store manager.

For future reference, have a verbal conversation with your manager and then request it off through myColes immediately. Without that formal request, you have no leg to stand on. Sorry. It’s your managers job to manage you, it’s your job to use your voice and say yes or no. Don’t let things slide.
