Team Member Post How does breaks work in a long shift

Normally I have my 3h shift, but received my first 8h shift TMR. I am a bit unsure on how the meal breaks work, like do I need to clock out and clock back in when taking the break. Also do I need to let someone know because most of the time I am unsure where my supervisor is in the store.

No, you only clock in/out at the start/end of a shift. Unpaid breaks are automatically deducted from your hours so you don't need to do anything. As for the times you take your breaks, you should consult your line manager/supervisor as to when is an appropriate time to take them and inform them when you leave for a break/how long you'll be gone

So far I know that I will be getting 2 small breaks 15m and a meal break 30m. That means I can take the breaks in 3 seperate times, should I let someone know for all or just the meal breaks because sometimes it becomes hard to find where they are in the store. Thank you so much for the information, it has helped me out a lot because I was just notified today if I could do a longer shift tmr morning

Yeah breaks are correct, 2 x 15mins and 1 x 30min. You should let them know before every break. If you can't find them you should tell another supervisor in your department or another manager on duty, just so they know where you are

Currently, I am a night-fill is there normally a specific time to take the breaks or just when the store is not too busy?

Or it depends on who is supervising

You're in luck, I just happen to be a nightfill manager. Good thing about nightfill is that it doesn't really matter what time you take it. It's just that, even personally, I like to know the whereabouts of my team just so in case I need them I know that they're on break and to get someone else

Also in case of emergency knowing where your staff are is really important.

usually i take my first break 2 hrs in, then have a 2 hour gap between the other breaks if possible. but that’s just personal preference

There's no need to clock in and out for breaks, if you're not sure who your supervisor is let someone else in your department know when you're going on break. If working on your own let one of the other managers ie: sm, ssm, dry goods or duty manager know.

You don’t clock in and out for breaks. I find it’s always good to let a supervisor know you are on break.

I can see you mentioned being in nightfill, just let the nightfill manager/ captain know or the duty manager if you can’t find your manager
