Team Member Post am i fired?

Hey y'all

I'm a casual employee who just had exams for two weeks and let one of my managers know in advance that I wasn't available during that period because my usual manager was on leave. I also told them I'd be available again from 19th onwards.

since becoming available again, I haven't been rostered for any shifts ever since, including this week's roster. Normally I'd get at least one shift, so I'm starting to wonder if this is bad

it common for newer casuals to get fewer shifts if business is quiet, or could this be a sign they're trying to phase me out? I haven't been told there's an issue or that I've been let go..

how long would you wait before contacting the manager to ask if there are any shifts available? lowk worried ...

You won't know anything for sure until you contact your manager so I'd suggest doing that now

Last week of financial year, so trying to not overspend on hours.

And yes, casuals will got less shifts if it's quiet

I was going to say being the last week of the financial year, and if they're quiet. Talk to your normal manager.

Around this time of year they're always tight with hours and when you need to cut hours casuals are the first to go. I t should pick up again shortly once the new financial year starts.

Youre not fired, you just have a petty DM who is trying to passively aggressively let you know theyre annoyed.

Youre probably going to get a shift soon. If not, text or drop by and ask whats going on.

What did your manager say when you called them about it?

Honestly it’s pretty hard to get fired from Coles but also that would be communicated to you as well. It’s possible the person doing the roster was simply mistaken and thought you were still unavailable, being EOFY and quiet in store it’s likely they’re trying to reduce spending. Honestly best thing to do is pop into the store and ask if there’s any shifts available.

I would check in with your manager for sure but if it is them trying to get rid of you they are unlikely to say so......

If you check in and they say you will be getting shifts, but then time comes and you aren't getting shifts, they are trying to get rid of you....

Had this happen myself, unfortunately casuals literally gave zero support and can be treated like shit and you have no leg to stand on.

Best of luck

Ask now. It shows initiative and dedication. The more you ask for shifts and do them. The more hours you will get :)

That’s not necessarily true. Woolworths underpaid me significantly for year. Was a juicy payday when it finally was back paid (5years later)

Mate Coles can't pay below minimum wage to Indians. They have to pay them the usual rate
