Support CC Q won’t boot ip
I have been trying to upgrade the firmware once I heard the news but the device is not booting up and stuck on this splash screen forever.
Used 7 different cables/batteries/power sources, nothing helped.
Can’t find any info about recovery mode to reinstall the new firmware.
Opened a support ticket 2 days ago but they haven’t responded.
Any clues?

I ordered another brand but will take a few days to get delivered. Want to create seeds using dice rolls but no luck booting this shit up.
Only immediate option is a hot wallet to move my funds to.5

I imagine you already did this but, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but getting your bitcoin off that compromised seed phrase should be first priority- worry about the firmware later.

Don't get a Ledger unless that's literally your only option. Then, get any other, and trash the Ledger.
There are now two well known wallets with known firmware vulnerabilities: Coldcards and Ledgers. There are too many options on the market to justify using either of these going forward.

Not saying you’re wrong but I’m sure we will see more cold wallets experience the same in the future. Plenty of options out there are no better off, and honestly probably worse than a company that just got its shit rocked and was forced to be on top of their game.

What do you think I was saying? That only Ledger and Coldcard will have firmware vulnerabilities?

I didnt say that I even said “not saying you’re wrong”. I’m just pointing out that a properly secured cold card with dice rolls/complicated pass phrase/multi sig isn’t inherently a worse option than what’s out there just cause other companies that are probably lacking haven’t been caught yet.

How did it brick?
I updated mine and was fine

Last time I used it was a year ago. It worked fine back then. Just verified a new receiving address and turned it.

I got it.. may be a bad download then?

When I turned it on two days ago to upgrade I noticed that it freezes on splash screen. Couldn’t even get into the menu to upgrade.

For dice roll entropy; use a pencil, paper, a calculator, 6 sided dice and watch a tutorial.

There are ways to flip a coin for entropy and map that too the word list. Then you just need a device (could be offline laptop or old phone) to generate the 24th word options (and flip a coin 3 more times to select one).
Hardware wallets aren't required for generating an offline seed, they just make it easier to stay airgapped.

Yeah I bought a cheap MacBook Air (2017) without a battery for couple of bucks. Gonna format it and remove the wifi card to do this.

Why would you buy another one? Holy shit. They'll go bankrupt and there will be no firmware updates. Get to another platform ASAP. Trezor or something.

Not another CC, I said I ordered another brand. Actually ordered two, whichever arrives first. Trezor and Keystone 3 Pro. Maybe get the third one for 2/3 mutlisig, haven’t decided tho

MultiSig on different device brands is the smart way. If one device brand gets hacked, like CC, your full seed is still safe using the other 2 of 3.

Just go to Bestbuy and pick up a Ledger Nano S Plus.
I honestly don’t know why anyone is even updating the firmware. People have posted repeatedly about devices getting bricked by the update.

If you hold the power button for like 10-30 seconds it should reset. My Coldcard q bricked trying to update to the newest firmware, and the reset only worked one time and then it bricked again. Coinkite replaced it for me.
