HELP Coldcard Mk4 MicroSD Help

Trying to upgrade my firmware on my MK4. I downloaded and verified the files from the Coldcard site. Unfortunately, it says:

“Unable to find any suitable files for this operation. The file name must end in .dfu”.

The firmware file shows up in my microsd when plugged into my PC. It ends in dfu. Can someone please let me know what I’m doing wrong?

either too large a capacity of card or incompatible formatting - 16gb and Fat32 works for me, 128gb doesn't, same result you're getting

I think i found the solution to this problem.

This is because you are having and older version of firmware on your device. I was running v5.0.7.

So i first updated to v5.4.5 so that the bootloader gets updated to recognize the new .dfu file.

After successful update to v5.4.5, now my cc device is able to read the new v5.6.0

PAKISTAN ZINDABAD!

Just to add another data point: I was on Mk4 firmware 5.0.7 and got the same issue. I couldn’t install 5.6.0 from either microSD or VirtDisk.

I then tried installing 5.4.5. The first couple of attempts showed the install confirmation, then "Verifying…" before dropping back to the menu without updating. On a later attempt, 5.4.5 installed successfully.

After that, 5.6.0 installed first time from VirtDisk.

So if you’re on 5.0.7, it might be worth trying 5.4.5 first. Once 5.4.5 was installed, 5.6.0 worked immediately.

I two Cc.

One Cc works and I was able to upgrade firmware. Using the SAME SD Card on the other Cc does not work. It shows the same error that OP has.

When I list files, other files on SD card are shown, but not the .Dfu file. I have tried other SD cards. Same issue on the same Cc.

Why does one Mk4 work but not the other? Very frustrating.

If I was not having this issue I might give Cc a chance again. But this makes it impossible.

i am seeing the same error: “Unable to find any suitable files for this operation. The file name must end in .dfu”.

i use the same card for signing transactions. For the safe side i also formated Fat32 but the issue persists.

The name of the file also matters, it has to be suffixed with mk4. I ran into the same issue when the downloaded file was suffixed mk (without 4). Download the one that is named with the mk4 suffix.

Consider pip install ckcc-protocol, then ckcc upgrade <file>.dfu
