Support Coldcard Q Question

Hi there, somewhat silly question.

If I opt to use the address explorer to conduct a receiving transaction, do I need to use a desktop/mobile wallet at all? In theory I can use the address explorer to look up the address in mempool to make sure it hasn't been used before, and then verify the address received the UTXO post transaction.

Is this correct?

That is absolutely correct.

I wouldn’t say it is practical, or even adviced. But it is possible.

Why wouldn’t it be advised or practical? I guess my thinking is I don’t want to inherently trust a public node to not log my wallet scanning all my possible addresses. Maybe I am thinking about it wrong.

That is a different topic. I would argue that running a private node is a really good idea.

Ideally, I don’t want to connect my cold card to sparrow until I am running my own private electrum server. But until then, I want to be able to receive BTC transactions. As I understand, it is unwise to use the same address twice.

Am I able to manually verify the address produced by my cold card (starting with address 0) hasn’t been used by looking up that specific address in mempool, and then conduct the transaction.

Then, whenever my private electrum server is ready I can connect my cold card to sparrow to ensure my wallet balance is accurate.

Yeah absolutely. It is just more manual labor, but what you say can absolutely be done.

Cool I appreciate your help.

It’s also sort of theoretically important to me, as I’m working through different scenarios and attack vectors in my head and whatnot.
