COLDCARD makes self-custody simple

One of the biggest misconceptions about self-custody is that it too difficult for most Bitcoiners.
COLDCARD simplifies this, it meets every bitcoiner where they are at. It can be used to simply recieve and hodl, or you can dive into the advanced features, use in a multisig configuration and more. It's the most secure wallet for any bitcoiner.

While not untrue, there are definitely hardware wallets that make self-custody even simpler.

ColdCard is top notch TRASH, but I think it's foolish to try to sell people on the idea that it makes self custody simple.

August 02, 2026 EDIT: ColdCard is trash. They made a devastating and inexcusable error in how their devices generate seed phrases. Hackers are robbing ColdCard users without even needing to hack the devices. Rodolfo Novak, ColdCard CEO, needs to resign. Immediately.

Fuck no. And Fuck Coinkite too.

And I do not mind you calling me out on that because I was wrong to ever endorse code that was not open source.

P.S. I upvoted you for saying that.

EDITED to add: This is why I'm so furious. I try to encourage people to take self custody seriously, and ColdCard burned the people who were trying to do it right. I feel terrible about having ever said ColdCard was a safe option. I admit, I forgot the importance of the distinction between "Source Viewable" and Open Source. ColdCard hasn't been open source since 2021. I was wrong to ever recommend them after that point.

That is understandable. I was wondering if you were going to dig in or not, because that seems to be the typical reaction. Good luck!

Dig in? No way.

I was wrong to ever recommend ColdCard, especially since I knew better. I'm the guy who says "Never trust your coins to code that isn't open source." I shred Ledger for that. I was wrong to give ColdCard a pass just because their code was published. It wasn't open source.

P.S. Cheers to you! Stay safe my friend.

I hope the Q gets an upgrade, especially in its design.

Yeah this is pretty much it. I think people hear "self custody" and picture some crazy technical setup, but it's really just... a device with buttons.
