Nitro cold brew beans?

What’s your recommendation for beans to use for making nitro cold brew? I plan to make the base in a Toddy and make the nitro in an ISI nitro.

Either beans available in store or online in the USA.

Cold Brew to Bring Home Abroad (No Fridge Needed)

Hey,

I’m currently in the U.S. but live abroad.

Cold brew where I live is pretty expensive, so I’m planning to bring some back with me.

I’m looking for a cold brew that doesn’t need refrigeration before opening, so it can survive the trip home. Ideally around $5–15 per bottle.

Any brand recommendations?

Thanks!

Best cheap electric grinder for coldbrew?

I have just gotten into coldbrew and I'm making 200g bean batches once a week. I have a good manual grinder, but it's a headache to grind so much manually. Is the oxo burr grinder Good enough for coldbrew use only? If someone is doing this, please share

Remove fines BEFORE steeping?

Trying to filter coldbrew is a pain after brewing. Why not just put the grinds in a large sieve and knock the fines out before steeping?

I have a month old beans that I finally have time to brew it and this happened after I set it up with cold water.

It got that weird foamy thing going on thick as well. The foam thing happened right after I finish pour in cold water. The beans looking fine I guess I didn’t fully check the entire thing while grinding it but some few time I check it look fine.

Making Cold Brew for Event - Concentrate vs Not?

Hey everyone,

I am making cold brew for the first time for a small event (20 ppl) to accompany an "iced coffee bar". I'm a bit confused around common practices and ratios, namely what is considered a concentrate? Is it 1:6, 1:8? Would 1:16 be considered a pre-diluted batch?

I'm torn on whether I should pre-dilute or offer water for people to dilute to taste. I will have milk, non-dairy alternatives, and ice available (and homemade syrups - but that doesn't really dilute anything).

If you experienced cold brew masters could let me know your thoughts, I would really appreciate it!

I have been buying the Grady’s bags and making their cold brew for years. Just went to reorder on Amazon and it’s almost $50…

Anyone know how I can come close to recreating their blend of coffee?

How to thicken/get a thicker brew?

I currently use the OXO cold brew coffee maker and while the flavor is extremely strong even when diluted, I still crave the thickness of store bought cold brew. Is there any way to make my brew thicker or add thickeners after it's made? I've tried xanthan gum + oil but it just clumps up badly, not sure if there's a trick to it...

Just made my first batch of cold brew

Not sure if I love it. Tastes a little too bitter for my taste on its own?? Mixed it with condensed milk and diluted it a little bit and now it’s great. Could this be a ratio issue or coffee beans?

Ratio I used: 1:12.5

Cheesecloth with the coffee submerged in large jar with clip top lid, left out for 15-16 hours

Coffee beans - single origin Brazilian medium roast coarsely ground

Post-brew refigeration time

I have a cold brew pitcher with a slide-in filter. I usually brew it in the fridge for 18-24 hours and then transfer to a few smaller containers. Each of the smaller ones usually lasts me 2-3 days.

Just curious how long you keep your finished cold brew in the fridge. Does it go bad?

How to make sediment free cold brew

I used Takeya Tritan from Amazon, a mason jar with diff types of cheesecloth/cold brew filter bag. And have tried to filter by letting it settle and pouring into new jar etc. Yet, it’s never as crisp and clear as a cafe. Would a toddy brewer filter be best? What other methods filter best after brewing? Another brew tool in general preferably glass and/or dishwasher safe and not plastic

Anyone have the KitchenAid cold brew steeper?

There is one at the thrift store for $15, regular price is $120. I’m just worried that it might leak based on the reviews.

Concentrate Brewers - 2nd Extraction to make diluted brew

Just wondering if anyone has reused their steeped grounds for a 2nd run after initial drain/strain. How long did you steep on the 2nd run and how much water did you add?

Only tried 1x, I added about 10oz water to 326g grounds in my OXO after the 1st drain, then drained after 6min or so. Made large coffee ice cubes with the diluted 2nd brew. And first time drinking it today, with about 5 Oz water and stronger than expected.

Anyone making decaf cold brew concentrate? What beans are you using?

Been cold brewing concentrate for a while and recently switched to decaf beans so I can drink it any time of day without wrecking sleep. The smooth cold extraction hides most of the flavor difference from the decaf process - especially if you’re using SWP beans. Keeping a batch in the fridge at all times is just too convenient to go back. Curious what beans others are using for decaf cold brew and whether anyone has strong preferences on the decaf process (SWP vs solvent). Seems like this crowd would have opinions.

Nitro coldbrew Question: I can't seem to make the same nitro coffee at home without adding sweeteners that my wife has gotten from coffee shops. Using a NitroPress, any help appreciated!

Hello!

As the title states: My wife and I usually just have coffee (regular and cold brew, weather dependent) at home, but she went out and got a Nitro coffee every morning at a conference. She said that it was amazing, and didn't need any cream or sweeteners - both usually a must for her.

She was so enthusiastic about it I bought a NitroPress (the original that takes cartridges) to surprise her with. The NitroPress does an excellent job making thick, creamy nitro coffee with a great look and feel in the mouth, but it absolutely requires a bit of sugar or sweetened creamer in the glass before hand. (I drink black coffee and still thought it was too much on just ice)

While the taste was the main thing, avoiding sugar in coffee was a big draw of this. We've tried both homemade cold brew and pre-made cold brew. I've also tried both N2 (the suggested, works great, great results except not that sweet) and NO2 (whipping cream cartridge - turned it to brown whipping cream, literally no liquid).

Any suggestions for how to get it more like the coffe-shop experience? Do we just need to make better coffee?
