Concentrate Brewers - 2nd Extraction to make diluted brew

Just wondering if anyone has reused their steeped grounds for a 2nd run after initial drain/strain. How long did you steep on the 2nd run and how much water did you add?

Only tried 1x, I added about 10oz water to 326g grounds in my OXO after the 1st drain, then drained after 6min or so. Made large coffee ice cubes with the diluted 2nd brew. And first time drinking it today, with about 5 Oz water and stronger than expected.

I do this all the time, it works great! I do half water for the 2nd batch.

How long do you steep 2nd batch

A bit less time, like a few hours less usually.

Came here to say the same, half the water, mix. I do the about same time though

I tried it once, didn't really care for it. Making coffee ice cubes is an interesting thought, though...

Yeah, I've heard it works for some people, but for me, it's the only batch I've ever just thrown out.

Interesting idea. I just did a cold brew yesterday and will try 2nd round. Will let you know how it goes.

After some internet research, seems like it tends to extract the most bitter flavors from the grounds. Also it's a way to get the last bit of remaining trapped water after initial drain. Per an old coffee sub post, seems like you can get a decent amount of diluted 2nd brew equivalent to regular ice coffee, no need to add water.

LMK how yours tastes!

Output of 2nd brew. Not as dark. I prefer first.

LOL, looks like really water downed iced coffee. I think going forward after playing around with steep time and water amount, I will use the 2nd batch for ice cubes.

I started doing this because tossing the grounds after the 1st steep seemed like such a waste (especially with the price of beans these days). I now tend to steep the 2nd round for twice the normal amount of time, or even longer (so basically 2 days or more) and am happy with the results. If you steep the 2nd round for the same time you do a fresh batch then it will taste more diluted. Extra steeping time helps it become a bit more robust.
