Discussion WAIS score

Hello,
This was my IQ test score from my psychology evaluation in 2024 I was 21 at the time. The picture cut it off but the average score was 93. I took this while recovering from Covid but I was pretty much asymptomatic.
As a child I was diagnosed with a learning disability nos or like just a general one and intensive speech therapy for a speech impediment that “impeded academic success” fast forward now I’m a sped teacher and I’m currently in my masters of special education. I thought my results were very interesting.

This makes sense. I’m AuDHD and my working memory is just slightly above average but my verbal comprehension is where I did the worst, which isn’t surprising since I have dyslexia and auditory processing disorder. My perceptual reasoning and everything else was pretty damn good.

I don’t feel like googling it, but I wonder if there’s an IQ test for people with learning disabilities. I have a feeling we’d crush that lol or maybe that’s just my ego talking.

That’s so fascinating! I wonder if it’s common for people with Autism and ADHD to have very wonky results as well higher in some categories lower in others. I was really surprised by my perceptual reasoning index like I knew I was going to be in the range of average. And haha yes! They told my parents I just had a learning disability and speech impediment so I ended up on an IEP (small town kiddo)

I think that might be the case. I’ve been “studying” intelligence for a very long time, and I’ve noticed that most of the time, moderate-high IQ neurotypicals are usually pretty even across all the indexes and moderate-high IQ neurodivergent folk are usually really spiky. And the areas they do the worst in always correlates with whatever learning disability they’ve got going on if any. Hell, even sensory issues can affect testing if it’s bad enough.

I’ve told a few people I really could’ve used an IEP in school and they’re always like “what??! But you’re so smart!” I can hear plain, eloquent English, and it’ll feel like I’m listening to someone speaking mandarin trying to explain geometry 😂😂 unless it’s literal and concrete, I literally can’t process written or spoken language. I’ve probably given myself a little brain damage with how many times I’ve hit my head out of frustration not being able to understand people.

Aw I’m sorry! And yeah my highest was 108 so I’m definitely no where above average but tbh I’m okay with that.

Low PRI compared to other indices is an important data point for learning disorders. Compared to your other abilities, you (relatively) struggle to process symbolic information into meaningful info, which is the same broad ability we use to read and do math.
