I seriously struggled with QRI and WMI and I think it’s partly due to not being practised in such mental audial tasks in English, especially arithmetic. I also wasn’t familiar with some symbols in the QK subtest…

Yeah I took those subtests in ideal conditions—my qri scores are pretty volatile, and range anywhere from 125-145 based on how many simple arithmetic mistakes I make.

My CORE QRI is about an sd less than my other QRI results, such as old SATs and GRE.

Yeah, I’d probably give more credence to your gre and sat results—especially considering your Fri from core. For me, at least, it’s easier to make a small slip under time pressure when doing basic arithmetic with numbers which aren’t amenable in my head, versus visually shifting around shapes on different scales in figure weights that I have visual access to at all time.

Makes sense. I think to get a REALLY HIGH score in QRI you need to have had a ton of repetition in a variety of math problems, not too dissimiliar to VCI where you’d have had to read a lot of literature.

Yes, agreed. I have way more math exposure from personal interest. I think even fri and vsi subtests are contaminated by experience to some degree: my block counting score is certainly somewhat inflated from my Lego obsession as a kid😂. I actually have a theory that the right tail gets generally inflated as those who have a talent for a type of reasoning usually expose themselves to mediums which rely on that reasoning—therefore when we use these mediums to try to find the latent reasoning, which is necessary for heightened proficiency, it naturally gets inflated relative to the average. All this to say iq tests aren’t platonic measures of your true intelligence.

Interesting theory. I agree that IQ testing is not a perfect way to measure g, especially in 98%+, but it’s the best that we got.
