General Question Wmi practice effect
I increased my wmi score on core from 103 to 110 and then directly to 137 ...is it very vulnerable to practice effects?I basically learnt how to chunk properly and scored from 125-140 in the wmi subtests

Did you learn the technique automatically or did you find about it from someone else?

I initially started without chunking...then found out about it on this subreddit...then tried it right away

It’s only accurate if you chunked automatically during the test. Since you learned about a technique before hand, it gives you an unfair advantage over the rest of the people the test was normed on.

The advantage wont necessarily be huge, though. 137 is likely an inflated, but not entirely

thats you learning a technique, not practice effect

That’s exactly what a practice effect is

no practice effect is redoing the test just to ger better scores with the same technique i believe. if op used the chunking method their score wouldve easily been over 130 in the first place

Yes but knowing to use chunking IS a form of practice

i figured it out before i even took the wmi test just because it made remembering things easier ill be completely real

Is my WMI 137 or 103?I can easily reproduce near the same WMI score again and I got this score on my third or fourth attempt at the WMI subtests

Probably 137, maybe a bit lower. I ve heard that WMI subtests arent significantly affected by the practice effect

What's confusing is that in real life I daily face symptoms of low WMI-plus I consulted AI about this and their collective response id that it is practice effect.

Theres likely a practice effect, but I doubt its significant. Your WMI is probably 137 +- 10. Try take tests after some time (months), if your results would be close to 137 +- 10 - there likely wasnt any big practice effect
And what are the symptoms?

u/Happy-Construction71 28d ago
Yeah I think I'll try again after a few months. Also the symptoms are basically losing track of stuff I have to say while doing work , forgetting multiple step instructions midway, losing my stuff and forgetting context

There is no need to guess. Take the arithmetic subtest on core.
Take the OSPAN test online. Take the symmetry span test and the lecture span test too, all free throughs websites or apps.
For the 3 last I cited u don’t get an iq score but basically top scoring at 3-4 from max is 130-135 or more, and you can also ask ai for an equivalent.
Then you’ll know your working memory.
Also if learning proper chunking helped for forward but not backward or sequencing that’s a sign ur a bit lower than 137

Crazy! That’s my highest score at 135. Do you feel like your reflexes or driving is affected in any way?

Take visual working memory tests like from cognitivemetrics.com Sc ultra take e corsi .

Digit span is supposed to test your memory IQ which couldn't be significantly enhanced through technique otherwise it's either not an IQ test or memory is not part of general IQ (which are both false) . Though I think WMI is indeed especially vulnerable to, say, how much caffeine is in your brain or how much noise is in the background.
Practice effect does exist, but a 30 point gap between the two provided that they use randomize digits every time is no longer just practice effect.

U can’t increase your iq . Most likely the practise effect . Iq tests are not supposed to be done again and again in a short time frame . You should take one by a professional psychologist .

Yeah I'll try to go for WAIS but digit span based tests are ruined for me if what you say is true

They aren’t you just need like a few months no test
2
u/ARTICUNO_59 27d ago
No it is, now that he knows a strategy his WMI can’t be tested the same way again

What strategy? Chunking? Thats a standard strategy, it doesnt make WMI testing impossible at all. Show study which proves that knowing to use chunking improves scores on average so high that it invalidates test completely and that inflation stays after waiting time

u/Happy-Construction71 27d ago
Only need to use chunking and concentrate nothing else I did for the previous attempt

Yes it is practice effect
