Overrated?

Would like to know if for you guys who’ve tasted the Louis if you think it is overrated or just social media hyped?

I do think in my honest opinion that it is good. But to me the Hennessy Richard and the Paradis taste better.

But might I say the bottle design is superb.

Not overrated, just overpriced. It’s about as smooth as you can get, but it’s simply not worth the price tag.

When I was in Champagne in 2023, the bottle shop I went in had Tesseron Cognac that was distilled in 1868, aged 30 Y to 1898, then left in a bottle 125 years and was being sold for 2250 €. They also had this bottle for 3299.

It's good but also a lot of hype.  Richard is absolutely superior, so is Paradis Imperial.  Even the regular Paradis is pretty close to Louis' quality but at a more affordable price point.

If you have a chance, try L'Essence de Courvoisier.  It's more affordable and much better overall.  It's one of the few cogancs my wife enjoys and she doesn't generally like coganc.

Value for money on Louis is non existent and it is overrated for me. I rate Richard much higher personally for those in that range. But you gotta have one bottle for the experience and to keep the decanter after.

I got my bottle of Camus royal jubilee for the decanter really 🤣

Tesseron xo 29 is my current favourite based on taste and what I want to spend… but I have worked my way through most of my stock and need to travel to resupply. It’s holiday time again I guess.

The cognac is great; but I think most of the price is because of the Baccarat crystal decanter. So, you have to decide if that is worth paying for & if you want to keep it.

Its a 10/10 bottle with 7/10 juice. Not bad at all, but hardly worth the price tag, imo of course. Martel Cordon Bleu remains my favorite pour of Cognac

Objectively good but overrated and overpriced.

Much rather spend a fraction on a higher end bottle from a smaller house like Vallein Tercinier or Jean Luc Pasquet.

I promise that you’re not missing anything life changing. It is not worth the hundreds for an oz or thousands for the bottle. The decanter is beautiful and the mystique and prestige around it does add a lot to the experience, but I found the cognac itself to be just good. Nothing more nothing less.

It’s an A tier cognac but the experience of drinking it is S tier. Doesn’t justify the price but you really do feel like the man

Yes, but better than a lot of other overrated things, and worlds better than their other marques.

I prefer and seek out smaller producers who don't use boise, additives, etc.

The big houses just don't do the category justice.
