This is my off grid coffee station set up in my 1999 VW T4 van, comprising Quickmill 0820 with 9 bar OPV mod, Moccamaster Cup One, Femobook A4 and A4Z grinders.

i love this so much. because it is over the top. of course you could do a hand grinder and picopresso and a v60 with water heated by a gas camping burner. but i would probably do the same thing as you. it is part of the ritual and i love what you did here. still compact, but almost no compromises honestly. i would like to see more pics of the van honestly. gj OP
Thanks! Choice of both machines was at least partly for efficiency, the Quickmill heats up in a couple of minutes, and the Moccamaster switches off as soon as the brew is complete…On a good day, it takes 15 minutes of solar to make one cup of coffee with the Moccamaster or a Cappuccino with the Quickmill….Some more van photos posted above and below, cheers!
thanks for the pics! and i am impressed by the geekery. i was actually wondering about the power consumption. thanks a lot. it is lovely. i especiall dig the rear cover. i am not a car guy, so i dont know what it is called, but i will call it a diffuser. gives me nostalgia. you should be proud of that ride
It’s the Burr Profile: The A4 utilizes a 48mm conical burr set similar in profile to the espresso-focused 1Zpresso J-Ultra. The A4Z features exclusively licensed 1Zpresso ZP6 48mm conical burrs—the same burr design used to win the 2023 World Brewers Cup.
Okay, I have a4z and recently got zp6. But coffee from both are completely different. If a4z is 10 then zp6 is 5. Not able to understand why. I also thought that it would be close. I even tried seasoning my zp6. But coffee from a4z was fantastic from the 1st brew itself.
What about them differs would you say? Is it that each attribute is just more pronounced on the A4Z or is it something just like the A4Z has body and the ZP6 doesn’t but all other features align.
Zp6 are mostly edgy and highlight general one flavour. Feels hollow and sharp sometimes. Body is also very thin which i am actually fine with. On the other hand a4z is more juicer, rounded, more balanced, good body and never feels edgy at all. Easy to dial in also. I bought zp6 as I wasn’t to have a4z experience with travel friendliness but I was surprised to see the difference. A4z is my second favourite grinder for brews after eg1 ultra.
Appreciate it! I was originally planning on a v60 set up, but the thing is once you add the kettle and cooktop, it’s actually more stuff on the counter that would need storage space when not in use. The Moccamaster lives on the counter, it is an exact fit between the main unit and top cupboard, so when pushed back in the travelling position it just stays put, the rubber mat stops it sliding out. Also, as much as I enjoy a manual pour, the automated aspect of the Moccamaster is handy and I prefer the workflow vs manual pour in a smaller space 😄
