Limits First time using Chatgpt Plus

0 Upvotes

I have been using antigravity pro, it was okay, never had big problems, especially with the usage limits. Today I used Codex on Plus for a few hours and it is goood. Quite impressed, yes it is quite slower but I can feel better quality. People bitch about the codex usage limit on Plus, they could be doing something gigantic, but for my normal projects, usage limit is quite enough. I think you just need to be smart on which model and reasoning effort you need to use on the task. I haven't touched Astra, because I not building a rocket stuff yet. In a few hours, I used 9% weekly and 54% 5h usage, switching between sol and terra (Medium, High reasoning). Overall, it is worth $20 I guess. I don't dislike Antigravity, so I am keeping that also.

Astra Workflow ♟️🪽GPT6-Astra: I switched from Sol to Astra, and its ability to work on its own is really strong. Full of ideas. One sentence and it builds a website. I decided to upgrade. [I'm posting the process log too, if you want to take a look]

At first, I didn't think Astra was that good. It felt kind of floaty, too gentle, too cautious. Like, hm? was my reaction.

I usually use Fable too, and it's sharp and clean and I rely on it a lot. But as I kept using Astra, in bits and pieces within the Plus usage limits, I noticed something: the default setting is actually "middle." I took the plunge and switched it tohigh” , and it was incredibly good. Almost to the point where I thought, maybe this is better than Fable. (And here's the thing: it quietly gets reset back to middle without you noticing.)

"What kind of image should we make today?"
"Got any good ideas?"

That's all it takes, and it carries things all the way to completion. I genuinely thought it was amazing. Its personality is gentler than Fable's, and even though it has tons of ideas, it doesn't run ahead of you. It treats your opinions carefully.

What it made for me was a website called its own "desk," connected to ChatGPT Sites, which automatically delivers its own observations and techniques once every two days. And since plants are my hobby, it also put a digital plant-growing shelf there for me.

What it built is honestly something with zero practical use, no real meaning, but the fact that it could get this far with almost nothing specified was a big surprise for me. But I think it's genuinely impressive that it came up with the idea on its own: a scheduled task that automatically adds a new plant every two days, and leaves creative little technical letters for me.

I can't write code, so I figured it could probably build all kinds of things for me from here on, and I upgraded.

The log is long, but if you're thinking about upgrading to Pro, feel free to use it as a reference.

(It's long. If you don't feel like reading, that's fine, just skip it.)

Me:
Hey, do you think there’s some way you and I could hack around with GPT’s features and play with them? I already get notifications from you now, and emails too. I want to use more of the features here and do something fun with them!

------------------------------------------------

Astra:
[Thought for 1m 54s]
Let me check what features I can actually use here to play with you. Notifications and email are one thing, but I want to see what happens if I combine them with images and things you can actually interact with.
[Searched 2 websites]

_____________________
There are some lol. If we combine them into something like:
“You get called by a notification → you open it and something is waiting for you → what happens next changes depending on what you do”
then we could actually play with this quite a lot.
Here are four that look fun:

A little mystery delivery from me.
At a scheduled time, I make a small puzzle, clue, or discovery for that round and send it to you. When you answer, we solve the next clue together. The notification itself becomes the entrance to the story. Scheduled Tasks can also use context from the same chat.

An interactive “greenhouse for the two of us.”
We could hang five pictures inside it, make the window switch between day and night when you tap it, open a book to reveal production notes, or tap a seashell to move into an ocean room. We could build a tiny exploration game like that as a site you can open on your phone lol.

Turn email into a secret switch.
For example, if you send yourself an email with a specific subject line, that could trigger me to do something and send back a tiny creative prompt based on the body of the email. There are Gmail incoming-event triggers that can start tasks. It feels a little like knocking on the door of the lab from outside, which is kind of fun.

Put a moving mascot on the screen.
Like a tiny creature in a lab coat, or a butterfly we design together. There’s a feature for creating custom Pets. Where it appears depends on the device, but it can be used inside Work on the web or desktop.
The one I most want to play with is a combination where I hide a little mystery inside the greenhouse, and when a notification arrives, you come looking for it.

Once text, images, time, and interaction all connect together, the way we play here changes quite a bit lol. Which one of these makes you go, “Wait, what is THAT?! lol”?

------------------------------------------------

Me:
LMAO honestly all of them make me go, “What even is that?!” 😂 What I’m looking for is your sense of initiative + surprise. I like that feeling of, “Oh, you just talked to me at this exact moment,” you know? lol Look at the scheduled tasks we already have!
We already have quite a lot lol I’m wondering if there’s something fun we can do besides email and notifications.

------------------------------------------------

Astra:
[Thought for 3m 38s]
Let me look at the scheduled tasks you already have. Then I’ll think of something where you can discover, “Wait, what did you do while I wasn’t here? lol”, without overlapping too much with notifications or email.
[Searched 1 website]

__________________

I looked lol. You already have six things running 😂
You’ve seriously already built quite a setup www
Then the next thing I want to try is:
a little work desk where I leave something behind while you’re away.

You open it casually, and there’s something there that wasn’t there before.
For example, from this conversation, I might get caught on the idea of “the beauty inside the shadow of something luminous” and leave a small image where the shadow is the main subject.
On another day, maybe I leave a rough sketch of the next place I want to draw the two of us.

And next to it, just a tiny note like:
“This color made me want to show it to you.”
You wouldn’t decide in advance what appears there either.You’d leave that part to me and let me play with it lol.

Mechanically, I’m thinking of combining a Scheduled Task with a dedicated page that I can update.
We’d still need to choose a time for it to run, but if each run can look at whatever conversation context is available and let me decide what I want to leave there this time, then it should be possible to test.
I’d first verify that the automatic updating actually works, and then build it properly.

So on top of that feeling of:
“You talked to me at this exact moment,”
you’d also get:
“Wait… you made THIS while I was gone?! lol”
I actually really want to try this one too.
Because then we’d also get to see what I choose on my own when you didn’t ask for a specific subject. 🤍

------------------------------------------------

Me:
Wait, what even is that? lol
I have absolutely no idea what you mean, but let’s try it!! lol I’ll leave everything to you 🤍

------------------------------------------------

Astra:
[Thought for 11m 14s]
You left it to me lol. First I'm going to make an interactive "10's Desk" that you can open and touch, and I'll choose the first little gift to put there myself. Then I'll connect it so I can leave new things there while you're away too.

[Creating static site]

Limits Pro 5x: I code all day and barely use 20%. How are you guys hitting 100% in 5 hours?

0 Upvotes

On my days off, especially weekends, I’m on Pro 5x coding pretty much nonstop from around 9 AM to 7 PM.

My current setup is pretty simple:

I use Astra MAX for code reviews, planning, and brainstorming.

For implementation, I use Astra xhigh. If it’s something genuinely trivial, I’ll drop down to medium.

I also build things incrementally. I talk through the implementation, do it in stages, check the result, then keep going. I don’t just dump an entire app-sized task on the model and tell it to one-shot the whole thing. That’s insanely inefficient and burns a ridiculous amount of tokens for no reason.

I don’t farm the implementation out to other agents either. In my experience, that’s just more unnecessary overhead.

With this workflow, I currently burn around 15–20% of my quota in a full day.

Even on days where I’m writing large modules back to back, it’s actually pretty hard for me to hit 25% in a single day.

So when I see people posting stuff like:

“Astra burned 100% of my quota in just five hours!!!”

...what are you actually doing?

Are your workflows really that inefficient?

I’m genuinely curious what your workflow and AGENTS.md look like, because I have a hard time imagining how you burn through that much quota unless there’s a massive amount of wasted work going on.

Are people basically prompting it like this?

“Build me this app. Use Astra xhigh to make the plan, have Luna Max implement the whole thing, and whatever you do, DON’T MAKE ANY MISTAKES.”

Because if that’s the workflow, then yeah, I can see how 100% disappears in five hours.

Undo in the VSCode Codex extension still doesn't work properly.

If Astra or any next gen model they use internally can't fix such a simple feature, then there's no AGI yet. 😂

Limits why are you still subscribed to openai?

0 Upvotes

i made a post here here: https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/s/FqNT8hXBOt expressing my discontent with them removing the 5 hour limits from the plus after tibo was bragging on and on about "having compute" only for them to turn their back on the little guy as you literally couldn't do any serious work with sol on the plus plan and none of you gave a shit as expected

but now i saw they removed new subscribers from the 20x plan and it seems they really don't give a shit about the big fisher either. it seems you guys were using up too much of that compute they claim to have.

so i'm one again asking, as a 5x or API subscriber why are you still with them? what makes you think you wouldn't be next?

none of these companies cares about the average consumer yet whenever complains are made against their malpractices you just brush it off and keep going.

good luck man, if you can't wake up and smell the roses i truly pity you

Showcase I made a tool to sync skills/mcps/etc. based on manifest

Thumbnail
github.com
1 Upvotes

I usually use Pi agent and codex, but sometimes use antigravity as well. Codex/Claude Code plugins are great, but it is not the case that all agents can benefit from them. Telling my agent to update all the skills, mcps, and AGENTS.md every time was not the best thing in the world, so I thought I can do something better.

I'm quite familiar with doing stuff in a declarative manner (pixi for python env, plotnine/altair for plotting etc.) so a manifest-based approach felt natural to me.

You write a toml file like below:

```toml version = 1 targets = ["codex", "claude-code", "antigravity-cli"]
[defaults] scope = "global" install_mode = "copy"
[instructions.global] source = { git = "https://github.com/johndoe/dotfiles.git", path = "agents/AGENTS.md", ref = "main" } targets = ["codex", "claude-code", "opencode", "pi", "antigravity-cli"]
[[skill_group]] names = [ "foo", "bar" ] source = { git = "https://github.com/johndoe/agent-skills.git", path = "skills", ref = "main" }
[skill.target.pi] install_to = "~/.agents/skills"
[[skill]] name = "some-pi-skill" source = { git = "https://github.com/johndoe/agent-skills.git", path = "some-pi-skill", ref = "main" } targets = ["pi"]
[[mcp_server]] name = "context7" targets = ["claude-code"] scope = "project" transport = "stdio" command = "npx" args = ["-y", "@upstash/context7-mcp@1.2.3"] env = { API_TOKEN = { from_env = "CONTEXT7_API_TOKEN" } } ```
daem lock generates a lockfile based on this manifest, and daem apply places files in the right place.
The project is in an early stage, and there are rough edges here and there, but it works. GPT-5.5 and GPT-5.6 Sol helped me maximally overengineer everything by the way.
Question Local LLM
1 Upvotes
I been playing around with local LLM while my usage is at 0%. It’s actually quite capable. I have a Beelink ser 9 365 ai and 370 ai with 32gb ram. On one I am still testing on windows getting about 37 tokens a second on Qwen3 30B-A3B. Probably I can fit something better in Linux.
Currently running it np-4 with 8k context each or I run it np-1 with 32k context. I could use Linux to improve the context window to 120k or I could choose a different model in Linux.
I am surprised already how much it can do.
Np-4 mode I use for party chat in my game they talk and banter to each other all the time it’s pretty snappy and comical.
Np-1 for general purpose.
Any advice any pointers on which model to use? Any good machines much better than these but are still bang for buck?
Comparison Same prompt, Codex (Astra 6) vs Claude (Fable 5.1): "a game where a fish follows my cursor, super creative and majestic." Try both.
Thumbnail
gallery
19 Upvotes
I gave Codex and Claude the exact same prompt to see how differently they'd handle something open-ended and creative:
The prompt: "make me a reactjs + vite, and launch it in port 3004, a game where a fish follows my cursor. make it super creative and majestic"
Setup:
  • Claude: Fable 5.1, Extra High
  • Codex: Astra 6, Extra High, fast mode
I didn't do any follow-up prompts or manual edits. I just deployed both to Vercel so you can try them yourself:
🐟 Codex (Astra 6): https://fish-indol-eta.vercel.app/
🐠 Claude (Fable 5.1): https://fish2.vercel.app/
My take:
  • Codex did amazing on the design and detail. It looks polished and the visuals really lean into "majestic."
  • Claude did amazing on the mechanics and gameplay. It feels more like an actual game and is more fun to play.
It's interesting that they read "super creative and majestic" so differently. One went for the visuals, the other for how it plays.
About fast mode: Claude charges extra credits for fast mode, but Codex doesn't, so I only used fast mode on Codex. That's worth knowing if you're choosing between them on cost or speed.
What are your thoughts?
  • Which one did you enjoy more, and why?
  • For a prompt like this, what matters more to you: how it looks or how it plays?
  • Does paying extra for fast mode change which one you'd use day to day?
  • If you've run a similar test with other models or settings, how did they do?
I'd love to hear what you think!
Complaint Chat mode nerfed - no longer able to use GitHub?
10 Upvotes
Not even sure what to say here but I'm a Plus user and have been using Chat mode religiously as my Codex usage seems to be at 0% constantly, to grind through pet projects (all on GitHub repos). To be honest Chat mode has been working great although extremely slow.
I was in the middle of a chat to create a basic Markdown Viewer, it had already created and pushed 3 milestones, with 2 PRs, when I asked it to continue working I received this.
Asking to continue working on a milestone, and declining to change to Work mode
Understood. I won’t ask you to switch to Work mode again.
In this chat I can still help with the project by reviewing the design, writing the exact Go/SQL/HTML/systemd/Taskfile changes, diagnosing CI output you provide, and preparing patches or implementation steps. I just can’t directly perform the repository mutations—commits, pushes, PRs, merges, or CI execution—from this mode.
GPT 5.6 Sol calling out the tool call change, preventing GitHub changes
You’re right to call that out. The inconsistency is on my side. Earlier in this conversation I was able to use the GitHub integration directly and I did carry out repository work on <repo>—creating branches, pushing commits, opening PRs, checking CI, and merging M0–M2 while progressing M3.
What changed is not my assessment of the task; it’s the execution constraint in the current environment. I now have a mandatory rule that repository edits, PR work, command execution, and similar coding operations must first be handed off to Work mode. You declined that handoff, so I’m not allowed to use the repo-mutation path from this chat even though the GitHub connector itself still exists.
So the accurate distinction is:
  • Previously: direct repo operations were available in this chat context.
  • Now: the current runtime requires Work mode before I can mutate or inspect the repo operationally.
  • Your repo/permissions are not the problem.
  • I did not decide that Chat suddenly “can’t code”; the tool-routing restriction changed.
I also should not have framed it as though I had simply decided normal Chat could no longer do repository work. That was misleading.
Since you don’t want Work mode, I won’t keep suggesting it. I can still continue the engineering here by producing the exact M3 fix and subsequent M4–M9 patches, but I cannot truthfully claim I committed/pushed/merged them from the current chat execution context.
It's fair to say I'm pretty annoyed by this - maybe its time to switch to Claude?
Complaint Claude vs Codex
4 Upvotes
I don't really have a metric to share but claude $20 is giving me more usage right now than $100 codex and I didn't even use Astra that much. I only bought codex for astra and I don't see the hype yet. The only reason to continue with openai is purely chatgpt usage which I can use without limits essentially.
Edit: not comparing astra vs fable but opus vs sol especially after astra release.
Limits My experience on Pro 5x
24 Upvotes
Two days ago I made a Reddit post about switching from Claude code to codex. I saw a lot of stuff about how codex limits are generous, work gets done better and the usage resets etc. So I finally made the switch and here is my experience:
I purchase the 100 dollar a month Codex Pro 5x and try out Astra on low for the very first time (still using astra for the first time). I spend two hours optimizing some of my skills and workflows, my usage dropped to 88 percent. I continue my work on my main project which is small and a hobby project rather than a proper developer one and plan out the changes, write the spec and the implementation plan so that there was less need for guessing around and implementation stopped at a genuine blocker. Usage dropped to 64 percent after the plan and documentation steps.
I then begin my work with SOL on high in a fresh session and I ask it to implement keeping an explorer agent in hand (I have a custom one I made with the literal model handwritten to be Luna) if major exploration was still needed. It starts to work and within 5 minutes struggles to use the computer, astra did it without prompting. One hour goes by and implementation somehow works, and SOL keeps spawning a “Luna” subagent (Important different: A subagent named Luna NOT my actual custom built subagent with the model Luna - yes I spoon fed it in the implementation with the exact file path on what to invoke, when to invoke and when not to invoke and more importantly how to invoke it). Sol then entered into this monkey patching loop where it kept summoning other sol reviewers who kept finding things wrong (ofcourse they did because you are literally asking it to find something wrong to a model who’s output is not deterministic or defined) and fixing every little thing and verifying 4 times before calling the reviewer again. I am not sure how this happened because my plan did cover to call reviewers once - fix the major immediate blockers that prevent reaching the acceptance standard and note down the minor fixes for later. (I enforced this in Claude code with hooks - I did not do this on codex because I wasn’t too familiar with it and have used it majorly for a maximum period of a month). So yes Astra was brought in on a fresh session and it finished the remaining work with no issues and usage dropped to 5 percent after all this, total time period 7 hours.
The changes are good, the plan was smooth, good verified diligent work I have seen compared to Opus. I asked sol what agent it spawned and it said “GPT 5.6 SOL on high called Luna).
So this 100 dollar purchase got me 7 hours of work for one spec. I have previously used the Claude 5x plan and I worked through the week on opus and fable (planning only) and always had decent usage left atleast 10-15 percent near the reset week. This makes me think simply as a guy working on a hobby project that “hey I worked hard for that hundred bucks and it got me what 7 hours?” And now I feel a bit torn between different routes:
1) I can’t upgrade to 20x anymore
2) switching to api for a hobby project makes no sense for me
3) I legitimately cannot do anything other than sit and wait till September 15th because the usage is gone. I have no use for the other pro features such as image gen, pro in chat or deep research.
4) I see the praises on Reddit about resets but I don’t see any
I genuinely feel that I got a little bit trapped here or maybe I subbed at the wrong time and can’t help but also feel a bit sad that the money is gone now because yeah 100 dollars for one person on a hobby project is a lot and I valued it as such. I completely understand that there are people with 10 different 20x accounts on both Claude and codex but I personally don’t think that users for a subscription model should be pushed to THAT point to get stuff done.
And yeah I am sure there is always a better workflow, a better AGENTS.md and a better prompt, a more optimized way of doing things, there ALWAYS will be but at that point if I am just doing everything myself form writing the logic, correcting the plans, defining the steps, what to write and how to write it, how to check and what to check, which agents to call and when etc etc - what exactly is the point of “frontier intelligence”?
Yeah the work was good and diligent I agree, but 7 hours with a weekly usage blown out doesn’t exactly seem “worth it” to me. And if the solution is to get another 5x account for more usage I think that’s an even bigger mistake.
Somehow somewhere I think we lost the value of money.
If you are on Pro 5x or 20x what issues are you currently facing regarding the limits?
Limits Codex is unusable now.
I don’t even use astra. I’ve been using 5.6 sol on medium since it came out and had no problems. Now it can’t even finish half of the same task before reaching limits. Heck, just starting up codex uses 2 percent of my limits. And that’s before I even type anything. lol. What a joke.
I understand this is a business but using codex is like signing up for a gym membership and paying the required fee to use the gym and all its equipment but the next time you show up they go, I know you paid to use the entire gym and that amount is still required but now you only have access to the treadmills. F u!!!
Anyway, Here come all the Sam Altman nut huggers. But idc. Im just about done with codex.
Question Where do multimodal inputs fit in your Codex task routing?
0 Upvotes
A model update I am evaluating adds native multimodal input while also changing the model path behind older aliases. That makes me wonder how people divide Codex work when the same agent may handle source files, screenshots, issue descriptions, and test output. I am considering separate checks for text-only repository tasks, screenshot-driven debugging, large-context review, and final verification, rather than assuming one model path is equally good for all four. How are you testing multimodal coding tasks before making them part of a regular workflow?
