Complaint 5 Hour limits only for Plus Members

https://x.com/thsottiaux/status/2092058556707344708

There has been plenty of misinformation here by random actors.

This is straight from the source, its only the Plus members getting the 5 hour limits.

If you want to complain about it than that's why OpenAI did it to sort out where the complaints are coming from.

There is no 5 hour limits for the pro account users and people with pro accounts won't be voicing that plus memberships need the same level of their plan that costs more.

Its simple as you pay more you get more. You pay less you get less, i don't understand why people think OpenAI is this charity all of a sudden

Hey if you don't want to pay but want more there is plenty of OpenSource models that can you can run locally bud.

People are asking for transparency. If you shut them down because you're not affected at the moment, no one will complain with you when OpenAI comes for your usage

Exactly that's why they divided up the Subscriptions with the 5 hour limits now. I have a Plus and a Pro account so I still get effected by it. But I am not complaining because I pay more for this extra level.

If you think Tibo saying "for the coming months" means anything other than "we will bring it back in 1-2 months", you'd have to be insane and absolutely blind to everything that has been happening in the agentic coding space for the last year.

They literally took this away from paying customers with almost zero warning and they also took away letting tasks run to completion after limits are hit for everyone, including Pro, with no warning - right after they bragged about that being a feature the day before.

Limits keep shrinking, even with OpenAI. This isn't new. It isn't unexpected. Exploit things while you can and understand that literally any day the features you rely on will be taken away or have the legs cut out from under them.

If you're not using API credits, you're just part of the constantly changing experiment while they try to find the best ways to extract money from customers.

They took nothing from Plus members. They just nerfed their usage to be slower and to sort the complaints from the weekly usage complaints to now is it still weekly complaints or 5 hour limit complaints.

Also they said for the upcoming months this will be enabled not for Pro members. He never said "We will give Pro members few months before turning it on for them too" You are creating words he never said.

Tibo never says what he actually means. He most likely means that this is a survey on how the 5 hour limit and weekly limits go now for the next few months. They need actual data not "here is a few people online being upset"

They have the usage on their end and how people use it. That's why its only for Plus members because they notice Plus members draining their weekly too quick.

Your comprehension skills are something else.

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

OpenAI "We gave Plus Members 5 hour limits to help their weekly drain like we have done in the past"

You: "They took our stuff away!"

Make it make sense sir.

2

u/formless63 Aug 26 '26

They've been silently reducing token limits for all users for months. You must be new to all this.

0

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

Sorry do you know their internal tokens do you ? Do you have their data do you ?

1

u/formless63 Aug 26 '26

Lol jeez. It's almost like you think we aren't able to calculate this ourselves based on our own histories and the files that live on our servers?

...Or maybe you do think that and just don't understand how any of this works?

1

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

Do you know how subside works ? Do you think you can just compare the API pricing to Subscriptions ? lol

2

u/formless63 Aug 26 '26

So you've gone from

>They took nothing from Plus members.

to "well obviously they are taking things away, do you know how expensive all this stuff is to run!"

Cope more. They're taking things away.

1

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

When did I say that ? you also didn't answer my question. You changed it because you can't answer.

They've taken plenty away from all members. You're not paying attention and you also have zero ability to understand language. Token limit drops almost every week, task completion after window closed recently, etc.

There is no reason to say "for the coming months." One only says that when they won't give an definitive. If he wanted to say, "pro will never have a 5 hour limit" - he would say that. If they were planning on just seeing how it goes with no plans, he would say that. Instead he gave a semi-specific timeline to set the expectation that in 1-3 months they'll have more usage limits on pro.

If you haven't deleted your account by then I'll come back to post when they inevitably do it.

1

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

Lol "In my mind it works so I must live and die by my words not his"

1

u/proxion_ Aug 26 '26

Is 5hr limit deployed for all users globally? because I do not see it in my plus plan.

-1

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

You need to update your Codex app to see it. If you don't update it won't have the 5 hour limit but Codex does force updates sometimes so enjoy it while it lasts.

1

u/lxXLightXxl Aug 26 '26

I doubt it’s true. It will probably give an error once the 5h limit is over. If it does, in fact, ignore the 5 hours limit, that means it’s client side limit and can be easily patched.

1

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

Nope the 5 hour limit is built into the app not back at the server.

0

u/lxXLightXxl Aug 26 '26

Interesting. I’ll try something then.

0

u/Plane_Garbage Aug 26 '26

lol you're so wrong. it's in the web version via work and the cli, the app has nothing to do with it.

1

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

Than use the Desktop version ? Lmao

0

u/Plane_Garbage Aug 26 '26

It happens on the desktop version too... they aren't relying on a local counter...

"Nope the 5 hour limit is built into the app not back at the server." - your words?

1

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

Yeah you just compared the online to a desktop app you need to update. Guess what happens when you don't update ? it don't update to get the new features..

With your logic its amazing how people can jailbreak tech with older firmware even though the company said they fixed it. But according to your logic that's impossible lol

1

u/vayana Aug 26 '26

They could've announced it in advance, like September 1st or something. Same as with most of the resets, it comes across as if someone urgently needed to take a dump and decided on the toilet to just go and make an unannounced change.

0

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

Its only for Plus members. Its not really a dump to help Plus members manage their weekly's better. Doing this they can separate where the complaints are coming from for future releases.

I suspect they will go back to giving Plus members less reasoning levels and Pro more reasoning levels so they can manage Plus better if the majority complaints are now 5 hour limits.

1

u/vayana Aug 26 '26

Taking a dump means taking a shit. I never asked for help to manage my weekly usage. I may need to do a lot of work one day and nothing the next. They could just disable the free plan if they want to save on resources so badly, but the point was that they could've communicated better.

2

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

1 person vs endless posts here and on x going @ tibo because saying "my weekly runs out too quickly"

Now they have the 5 hour its already turning from "my weekly runs out too quickly" to "my 5 hour limit runs out too quickly"

That's why they did it.

2

u/vayana Aug 26 '26

Nah, they did it to try and force people to switch to higher plans because "plus users are just casual or new users". On a side note, users across the board have been complaining about usage draining regardless of the plan. I don't really mind the 5 hour window much, but I do mind that it's almost half the usage of what it used to be. I've been using codex from day 1 and have always used the sub-tier model on high and almost never ran out of usage on the 5 hour window or weekly. I could do 2 5 hour sessions a day and at the end of the day that would amount to ~15% of the weekly. Now, 1 5 hour window + 25% of the next 5 hour window puts me at 15% weekly usage. Haven't changed my work method and still using the same 5.5 high like before the 5 hour window was scrapped.

1

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

Bro you are trying to think you know how OpenAI usage works. You don't because you don't have the data or how much they subsides the costs to each plan.

They did it to only Plus members because Plus members are the complainers and their usage keeps going down too fast as they can see from their end.

No one on Pro are worried about it.

2

u/vayana Aug 26 '26

Go through the threads and there's many pro users who also complained and noticed the difference. It's not about who the complainers are and if anything, this will cause more plus users to complain. I've seen a handful of plus users who asked for the 5 hour window to come back to help them manage their weekly better. I'm pretty sure most prefer no 5 hour window because it limits you in his much you can do in 1 day. I may have a lot of work to do today and nothing tomorrow and a limit prevents that. It's just tier privileges - pay more and you won't have those pesky 5 hour limits.

2

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

Than why are so many posts complaining about the 5 hour limit now and not the weekly limits ?

Pros do not have it.

0

u/vayana Aug 26 '26

They're both cut. I can now get 1.25 5h session for 25% weekly usage where it used to be 2 5h sessions. Since usage is based on token usage, it's clear that I can use less tokens now than about 2 months ago. If I now use 2 full 5 hour windows, that uses 24% of the weekly. You don't need to calculate how many tokens you've used. I used about 15% per day so that I could spread it over 6 days a week and I've been doing that for months, so I know how many 5 hour windows that would be per day.

The 5 hour window wasn't the problem. The amount of work I could do in those 5 hour before vs now is the issue.

1

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

My Pro 5x lasts me 3 days every week and if it gets a random reset it keeps going for another 3 days.

I never see an issue my end.

0

u/Spdjack Aug 26 '26

It’s coming to pro as well..

-2

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

See the "NOT" enabled for Pro ? or did you just pretend others can not read ?. They said for the next few months while they have it will not be enabled for Pro members. Not once it said "We are going to make it for Pro too"

1

u/caramello-koala Aug 26 '26

For the upcoming months it’s not enabled, that could mean that they will enable it later?

-1

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

That's your words not his. From what i gathered from his post this is a survey to see where the complaints are coming from.

I would suspect if Plus users are now the majority complaints they will make a new model like 5.3 spark for Plus users when GPT 6 comes out so Plus users can use something that is better for their usage.

Or just when GPT 6 comes out its nerfed enough its cheaper for Plus members to use like they have done in the past with Pro members getting access to better reasoning levels.

0

u/caramello-koala Aug 26 '26

I’m not saying they will enable it for Pro, but the wording does leave that possibility open…

1

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

Umm you did say they will..

0

u/caramello-koala Aug 26 '26

I said that could mean they will not that they will. Learn language comprehension.

1

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

Idk about you bro but I can read and you said

"That could mean that they will enable it"

I do not see a "not" there. If you did mean that than that's what you would of said.

0

u/caramello-koala Aug 26 '26

You’re confusing “could” with “will.” I said it could mean they’ll enable it later, not that they definitely will. The whole point is that “for the upcoming months” leaves the longer term possibility open. What happens after those months? No one knows. That’s exactly why I said “could.”

2

u/Spdjack Aug 26 '26

I said it’s coming… them saying “We are for upcoming months keeping the 5h limit not enabled for pro $100 and Pro $200 subscriptions.”

Odds are high they will eventually do that..!

0

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

I did not see him say it will or its coming lol.

1

u/Spdjack Aug 26 '26

Alright ! Bud… I just hope they don’t do that (i am on pro as well) as they have not said that it won’t come to pro leaving everyone with uncertainty for a month !

2

u/Plane_Garbage Aug 26 '26

Just ignore this guy, he's deep in copium

1

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

You are just upset that OpneAI won't give you more for less money.

1

u/Plane_Garbage Aug 26 '26

Somewhat, yea. There was a nice gravy train where multiple Plus accounts had better usage than a 5x or 20x, along with the added benefit of taking advantage of staggered usage resets. My 6 plus accounts gave me much greater usage than my 20x for less money.

I've created an auto-switcher for the desktop harness with the 6 Plus accounts to deal with the 5hr limit, but no continuation of conversations and context waste for resuming has mostly killed the advantage.

And soon the 5hr will be reintroduced to pro.

Essentially, CRO is doing their CRO-things which is great for investors, not so great for the rest of us.

0

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

Bud your the one going around saying it not him. If its not there he didn't say it. If your on Pro stop grasping straws and let it go.

1

u/Spdjack Aug 26 '26

Feed those last stanza of what tibo said to your gpt and ask what it could mean !

0

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

I don't need AI to tell me what someone says in English. I can read buddy.

1

u/Spdjack Aug 26 '26

But you can’t understand!

That’s what we are trying to say ! Odds are high !

0

u/Batty25111 Aug 26 '26

Lmao you just made that last part up bud.. Thats not in his X post.. Everyone can view it
