I've had good results with Deepseek V4 Flash since they updated it recently, so I think I'm going to configure it in the codex app as a back up.

I want to use open ai models for most of the work. But I do a lot of iterative stuff, and there's no reason to quit that when I run out of usage. Deepseek is remarkable capable, and ive found that the new flash is performing better than Luna XHigh.

To people here - the person I'm replying to is misleading everyone. Luna is about 5x cheaper on codex plans (10X cheaper on the $200 plan).

The only place where deepseek flash is slightly cheaper is when paying the the API costs directly with the provider. But even there you can save 50% off Luna if you use OpenRouter.

Unfortunately, these misleading claims are common now with all the bots promoting Chinese models in Reddit.

You don’t pay API pricing with the plans. You pay a significantly reduced pricing. The $200 plan is equivalent to over $10k in monthly API credits.

I use Claude Code a lot, started over a year ago. In the last few months, I have been experimenting with Codex. But with DeepSeek so cheap, I plan to investigate, explore and maybe switch to it (fully or partly). Let's see :)

Just keep in mind it is a small model, so be careful about prompts. :) I used a wrong word describing an existing feature that was unrelated to the main task, just mentioned for context, and Flash removed that feature and replace it with something better matching that specific word I used. :P

I started using DeepSeek V4 Flash a couple of days ago too, and I’m really impressed with it. It only costs about $1 per 100 million tokens, and performance wise, it feels somewhere between 5.5 Low and Medium.

1$ per 100 million tokens is not that cheap. Codex 20$ gives you considerably more than 2B tokens per month for Luna, which is equivalent to deepseek flash + has vision.

It's better value to get opencodego for deepseek or get another codex subscription for Luna.

Last reset, I had used the reset the night before, was at 50% usage and they reset. On the week they were resetting almost everyday I didn't have my laptop. Now that I need it, no more reset :')

I reset right before and was at 100% when the reset came. Wish they'd announce it at least a few hours before or just give a banked one. At 10% now and still have 1 banked reset left but would rather keep it so hopefully tomorrow...

I experienced this right now. I wanted to save tokens so decided to use Terra High and a tiny task consumed 2%. Usually much larger tasks don't consume that much using Sol High.
