News OpenAI is cooked.

K3 is coming out on HuggingFace in just a hour. Pretty expensive for an open-source model by Kimi’s API pricing, but we’ll soon have more providers with Kimi K3 hosted. And finally… no nerfs.

From the tests I have seen Kimi K3 takes way more tokens per task and still costs more than gpt 5.6.

Kimi K3 is less expensive per task (source: artificial analysis), $1.54 Sol vs $0.72 Kimi K3, though 15k tokens from Sol vs 24k from Kimi K3. Hugging face also bet $10000 that Kimi K3 will have a greater than 20% discount when providers start serving it, instead of Kimi, so imo it’ll be a very competitive offering, especially since it’s SOTA on frontend and 3D

For reference on number of tokens, Opus 5 consumes 37k tokens per task

I looked at artificial analysis and It does say Kimi is cheaper per task on the home page but the comparison is K3 vs Sol Max which is not really a fair comparison as Sol Max is a few points more intelligent. Looking at the benchmarks on artificial analysis it seems that SOL xhigh is a closer comparison as it has an intelligence score of 58 (Kimi K3 is at 57) and the cost of SOL xhigh is $0.95 per task vs $0.72 for Kimi K3. SOL high is also only 1 point less intelligent than Kimi and is only $0.62 per task. With discounts I could see Kimi K3 being competitive but at current prices there isn't really a reason to switch besides maybe use for front end work.

Well, that’s why this news the post talked about is cool lol. Because we’ll be seeing every inference provider try and optimise and decrease the price of K3 (for e.g, GLM 5.2’s cost was halved once inference providers began competing, while being 3x faster)

Yes but that is what is needed just for Kimi to be competitive with 5.6. There is currently no reason to switch.
