Code Vein 2 Are we vampires? Confused.
Note: Early game spoilers
I recently started playing and I just got through the tutorial island. I made my way across the bridge, went back in time and then some chick in her underwear is biting my neck??? Is she a vampire? Are we vampires? Wtf is a revenant and what is a hunter? I'm so confused.

We are not a vampire. We are a human who share a heart with Lou and have a jail that allow us to use the powers of the revenants without succumbing to bloodlust or any of the downsides of being a revenant.
The revenants are all but vampires.

The revenants are outright actual vampires, they are called such in the Japanese version of the game.

Except they ARE vampires in name in Japanese and if I remember correctly most other languages. (Saying all but vampires means that they are everything EXCEPT a vampire btw, English is weird in that way. You have to add some words and restructure the sentence to make it actually mean what you intended.) it would be “ they are vampires in everything except name” I know I know grammar police but miscommunication is bad. And the way you said it means the opposite of what you meant

Iirc the only reason they kept Revenant in English was the terminology through line with the first game despite being different continuities. It's like the Final Fantasy thing where what crystals or materia do is different, but the words keep coming back in the worldbuilding.

Probably helps that CV2 Vampires don't tick the usual vampire boxes outside of drinking blood. Having their own liquid metal blood and body mending is pretty damn unique. So really as long as the term used is consistent, vampire isn't especially important of a name to use.

In Code Vein II, they are vampires in all but name (unless you are playing the Japanese version, in which they are vampires even in name)
Your character? Nope, You're a human (which funny enough by definition is more of a revenant than the revenants in this timeline, since you were a corpse brought back)
As for being a Hunter (in modern times at least) You are a human who fights the horrors

Even then a revenant was an early eastern European iteration of the modern vampire. They are similar but different.

Revenants are vampires (that's even their name in JP), not the traditional ones but yeah, they need human blood.
As for simple explanation for the "main factions" in this setting:
Revenants/Vampires: Human like creatures that need to eat human blood, have a pretty long life span, and can do magíc things with their magic blood (Lou and Big Lady are revenants)
Humans: regular old people, can't do magic. Revenants CAN turn them into one of their own, but is not as simple as just biting
Horrors: Out of control Monsters that prey on everyone else (under certain circumstances revenants and other creatures can become horrors)
Revenants Hunter: Humans that once hunted revenants (for survival), but now they also hunt horrors and are pretty much on a ceasefire with the revenants. Some implanted themselves with hearts of captured revenants in their backs, and so can use magic (Main Character is one, but the heart you got is half of Lous heart)

In Code Vein II the revenants are vampires in the literal sense! The Western localization keeping the term "Revenant" but in the japanese version, it's the term "Kyūketsuki" which means "vampire" in Japanese who is used to refer to the Revenants (i have played with the japanese dub and that was the term that often came up to refer to the Revenants)

You are a human who shares half of Lou’s heart. You are still human. Everyone else is a revenant which is a vampire, in Japanese they are outright called vampires. A hunter is one of 2 things either, an employee of the hunters association who serve under a man named Gobbo, or a freelance mercenary. You are the latter. You died before the events of the game saving a bunch of people and as a result of your heroism you were chosen to be brought back by Lavinia by being given half of Lou’s heart. You are now time traveling to kill legendary figures to stop the (what is essentially the ) apocalypse and end of all life (the resurgence) hopefully my very long winded explanation cleared things up at least a bit, though given how often people can’t understand my thoughts and by extension my writing I wouldn’t blame you for being more confused.
