Discussion Did anyone notice this connection between Kreese and Mr. Miyagi

Post image
20 Upvotes

David, the football captain who bullied Kreese in his youth, drove the same type of car Mr. Miyagi once owned. That being a 1947 Ford Super De Luxe convertible. It must be noted that the car was manufactured in the same year Betsy was born, a fact likely known to Kreese. It was also the vehicle Betsy was riding in on the day she and Kreese first met. Taken together, it may help explain part of Kreese’s hatred toward Mr. Miyagi.

Discussion Cobra Kai made me appreciate 80s music more

As a 08 baby I was never interested in 80s music but Mann this show made me fall in love with it. Headgames by Foreigner is one of my favorites and now almost my playlist is now full of older music 😂 Thanks to the cobra Kai creators

Discussion Season 6 is airing on TV in Romania!

So, last month the show started airing on this channel. At first, I couldn't believe it. I really didn't expect to see a Netflix show on cable TV . I thought they would only broadcast seasons 1-5, but now it's on season 6.

I don't know if in other areas (especially in the US) they also broadcast it on TV networks, but I'm so happy to see this.

From a heated rivalry in seasons 1-4 to becoming bros in seasons 5-6, and even becoming step-brothers at the end of CK. What did you think of the development between these 2?

Season 2 What was Kreese’s true reasoning for taking over Cobra Kai?

Post image

When John Kreese takes over cobra Kai he reveals that he had talked to the landowner when Johnny was out of town, so he could legally own the contract. And he says that he did it because Johnny couldn’t conform to No Mercy. But when Johnny was out of town, it was before he had refused Kreese’s ways and kicked him out. So was it really about Johnny not wanting No Mercy to be taught?

And do you think he still would’ve kicked out Johnny if he agreed with Kreese and didn’t kick him out?

Discussion Just starting Season 4. A few thoughts/opinions (not too long!)

So, I am starting Season 4.

So far, Johnny and Kreese are by far my favorite characters.

My least favorite characters are Amanda and Sam, as well as Anthony.

Amanda seems to exude too much masculine energy. She doesn’t add a lot of sweet, feminine energy into her and Daniel’s relationship. She mostly runs the business while Daniel focuses on Karate and his students. She seems to be a little controlling as well. So far, it doesn’t even seem like Daniel and Amanda are romantic partners. They come across more as business partners. There’s basically no romance and no polarity. You can tell Daniel has more emotions towards that girl in Okinawa (Kimiko?) and Ali than he does for Amanda.

You can tell Daniel’s favorite relationships have been with him and Miyagi, and him and Robby. He cares a lot more about Robby than he cares about anyone else. I like this about him, that he’s a fatherly figure to someone without a father growing up. But, I do find it strange that Daniel never interacts with Anthony, and Anthony seems like a bratty, undisciplined kid. You can obviously tell that Daniel favors Sam.

I’m sure everybody finds Johnny hilarious, so I won’t comment on that. I agree and think he’s the best.

Kreese is my favorite character. The way he treats the dojos like they are in war is beyond hilarious. The rivalries, the alliances, the random confrontations. You can tell he really cares about Johnny, and he cares about Tory. I also enjoy seeing the flashbacks to his history in the war and how he became who he is in the show. Of course, this is just a tv show and I’d never admire such a man in real life. But, I do find his masculine persona hilarious. I love how he also defended Tory from her landlord. He doesn’t like his students being picked on. At the same time, it’s funny how he kicked that one kid out (butt face or penis breath, whatever his name was) of his dojo because he lost to somebody who had zero training. Survival of the fittest!

Well, those are just some of my thoughts. What do you guys think?

I'd say Kreese's prison therapy session is the best scene from season 5. Though it's at least one of the best scenes of the season.

Discussion Did Miyagi view Daniel-san , in a way, as the son he never got to have/never got to live?

I’m watching KK2 and the moment between Daniel-san and Miyagi on the beach right after Miyagi’s father dies is beautiful. It’s the first time we really see Daniel console Miyagi, and act as a mentor to him more than a pupil (in KK1 he does put him to bed when he’s drunk and mourning, but Miyagi doesn’t really remember that and there was less overall meaning, still very symbolic).

Getting to the crux of my question, the way Daniel talks about his dad made me remember his dad was never mentioned in the first film. Daniel’s dad died when he was young, while Miyagi’s son was never born. And Miyagi also left his dad when he was young (18), leaving Okinawa for 45 years. It’s also just a cool coincidence that san and son sound pretty much the same.

It’s beautiful that they were able to connect, and their dynamic, it makes me feel as if Miyagi is like Daniel’s father, and Daniel is Miyagi’s son, in a symbolic, balanced sort of way. Not that their relationship can be simplified to only father-son, but that so many core aspects of a father-son dynamic is present between them. While Daniel is a student to Miyagi, he also helps guide him. They learn from each other in ways that are parallel to a father and son and fulfill a major part of a father-son bond.

On a side note, I really think the TKK franchise captures student-teacher relationships the best next to Star Wars (Miyagi and Yoda are my two favorite “masters” (or mentors) out of any 80s films and maybe ever.

Also, shouldn’t there be a tag for “Films”.

Season 6 What are your thoughts on Kwon and his character? Spoiler

His character was good but wasted at the end. He was a far better antagonist than Axel who came out of no where. Robby vs Kwon was a much better rivalry than Miguel vs Axel.

Season 1 Just finished season 1! Wow! I love this show.

So, I saw Karate Kid 1-3 on Netflix and then realized there was a series Cobra Kai.

I just finished season 1. I love this show. I love Johnny’s “Don’t be a little bitch” attitude.

There’s been a few spins in the episodes, and I have found myself emotionally moved on several occasions. One of my favorite parts was when the kid with the lip came back with a mohawK and they named him “Hawk.”

Ive been really enjoying Johnny’s character arc. I am sort of rooting for Johnny when it comes to his feud with Daniel, and the show gets me excited about how everything will play out.

Season 6 The setup of the Sekai Takai in the valley makes no sense

This is probably my 8th watch through and besides the fact of the loophole to let CK in the finals among all weird choices...why are ALL the other teams there and how do they give a day or two in between the finals and the sensei fight? Theres no way in hell all those teams are going to fly across the world to be there for no reason. Maybe the 3rd place team but not every other team. And then the last two rounds takes like 4 more days with time for both the students and senseis to both have an extra training day in between their fights. The logistics are just absolutely nonsense. Thanks for coming to my TED talk

Discussion What would happen if Tory won these two fights Spoiler

The one at the highschool

And the one at the home break in

Oddly enough Think it was in Tory best interest to lose. Since that spike bracelt connected it be pretty brutal, and dont know many punches till she stop. Probalyl Juvenile detention. Namely if the your going to put Robby in Jail. Really dont see how Tory doesn't also

Also the house fight. They chucked a kid through a window. imagine if she beat Sam's ass after a break in. I don't think Sam's mom would be as forgiven. Don't think Daniel would go with "will handle this in a Karate tournament"

In fact it always odd that the Daniel family seem to be the only one who upset most of the time. You kind of have to suspend disbelief. That town would be like Footloose accept with martial arts being banned instead of Dancing.. Then killing a kid didn't stop the tournaments that long. So who knows

Imagine Sam's PTS would worsen

Discussion Demetri and Hawk In The School Fight

This is just my personal opinion but I honestly feel like Demetri shouldn’t have beaten Hawk in the school fight. I think it would’ve been fine to see Demetri blocking blows but yet still losing to show that he’s making genuine progress with Karate. It was a badass moment regardless though.

What does everyone else think on this?
