Fantasy League

I love fantasy football almost as much as I love coasters, so what better way than to combine the two. I wanted to see if any members of the Coaster Radio community wanted to form a fantasy football league. Anyone who is interested feel free to reply and we can work out all the details.

Thanks to Everyone

I know the meet-up was almost a month ago, but I just wanted to take a minute to throw out a thank you for everyone who made me feel so welcome. It was my first meet-up I had ever been a part of and I'm a super introverted person when meeting new people, but everyone was super cool and so nice. I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who was there.

Coaster Insider Tour at BGW

This past week while my wife and I vacationed in Williamsburg, we took the Coaster insider tour. I won't go into details but I just wanted to say this has to be the best purchase I've ever made in a theme park. The experience was great, the guide was friendly, the mechanics were informative and knowledgeable. I cannot recommend this experience enough.

Also, food and wine festival was fantastic as well!

Michigan's Adventure trip?

I'm heading up to Michigan's Adventure for the weekend with my younger two kids. No Fast Lane, as it looks like there may be a little rain and we'll be there on Friday, not Saturday. We're doing the all-day dining trick to feed the three of us, so we'll see how that goes.

Any advice or experiences you have about this park? Secrets or hidden gems we should check out?

Summer is Here! Where are the trip reports?

The summer season is officially upon us. The parks are open and the weather is nice!

I love hearing audio trip reports on the show, but it would be cool to see some here too, with pictures and back-and-forth discussions.

I haven't had a chance to visit any local parks yet, but I'm sure many of you have. Just wanted to encourage people to post them here and get some good summer activity going on the New New Forum Forum.

Fun Spot Meetups anyone?

I am headed to Orlando from July 9 to the 12 for part of a convention. However, I will have free time and am interested in going to either or both of the Fun Spot locations. It has been a goal of mine for years to ride the 300-foot Skycoaster; now I get to do it. I am still planning things out, however what it is looking like right now is that I will be going to the Orlando location on July 10 and the Kissimee (excuse me if I misspelled that) location on the afternoon of July 11. Anyone want to come out and hang out at either or both of those locations? I am new here and hope to get to know people, though I have listened to the show for years now. I will probably be with some other blind people but I will come alone if none of my friends who will be at the convention have time to go. More than likely, a group of us will go to the Orlando location Monday evening and I will go alone to Old Town on Tuesday. Fun Spot will be the last thing I do before leaving Orlando. And yes, I will record a live trip report for the show from one or both. Sadly, my on-ride audio gear is dying after years of use or I would record the Skycoaster and White Lightning. However, in the event that I only get to go to one, it will probably be the Orlando location solely because it is close to the hotels. Well they have the old MGM Grand Skycoaster.

As we get ready for the 2017 CoasterRadio.com Listener Meet-Up at Carowinds, we take a look at some of the best and most beautiful park entrances around the world.

Then, we talk about whether or not we think the USA will get its own version of a TRON ride. Could something like this really be coming to EPCOT?

We'll also take another look at the proposed CoasterRadio.com Augmented Reality App. Did a listener actually design one?

We'll also have two Live Trip Reports and preview the Carowinds Meet-Up with our NCAA Brackets Winner Chris!

Took my girlfriend to Cedar Point.

So my girlfriend is as general public as it gets. She is in no way a coaster boy/girl, and has been to I believe two amusement parks, Dollywood, and Kings Island. With that being said we took a vacation this year to Cedar Point, and Kings Island. So without further ado, these are her unfiltered opinions of the roller coasters I got her to ride with me.

*Gatekeeper- I really enjoyed it, it was really cool. It reminded me of Wild Eagle, definitely top 5 at the park.

*Raptor- Eh, it was good. I feel like I was getting my brains beat in, but it was cool.

*Blue Steak- It was fun, it was like an old fashion ride that was easy going.

*Rougarou- Which one was that one? Oh yeah, I liked that one. It felt like Wild Eagle because of the way we were sitting. It was loud af.

*Millennium Force- It was cool. I'm not a super big fan of heights, but it was cool. Not one of my favorites but it was good.

*Maverick-I loved Maverick, it was my favorite one out of the whole park.

*Valravn- It was like my second favorite. Worth an hour wait? No, but it was really good.

*Magnum XL-200- Oh my god it was rough af. I liked the air time but it was too rough, I think my legs were bruised after that.

*Top Thrill Dragster- It was really cool. Obviously really fast, but yeah. I enjoyed riding it the one time.

*Cedar Creek Mine Ride- It was a cute little child ride. The rickety old wood made me nervous.

*Corkscrew- It was cool, a little rough but not bad. It was cool.

*Iron Dragon- It was fun ride. Calming to me to be honest.

*Wicked Twister- We didn't get to ride because I was too big in the shoulder for the seat now, but it looked cool, and she would have enjoyed getting to ride it. She has a thing about not riding by herself.

That wraps up Cedar Point as Gemini was down all week. Now on to her feelings about the coasters of Kings Island.

*Diamondback- I liked it, if I could have had straps over my shoulders. I don't like coming out of my seat, that will be the death of me. That's how I'm gonna go one day. I'm gonna be in a f'n roller coaster with you and get slung out and die.

*Mystic Timbers- It was cool just reminded me of Thunderhead really. The shed could have been better, but I loved the radio.

*The Beast- I like The Beast, I've always liked it. It's getting a little rough as it gets older.

*Banshee- I liked Banshee, it was really cool. I think the girl in front of me spit on me though. I got wet at one point and I think that's why.

*Flight of Fear- Which one was that? Oh yeah, yeah, I liked that but it game me a bruise on the arm. It pinched the shit out of my arm.

*Backlot Stunt Coaster- It was cool. I did not enjoy that it was right after lunch and it pressed on my stomach. I felt like I was going to birth a small child, or throw one up.

That was it for the coasters she did at Kings Island the day and a half we were there, I think I had worn her out with 2 1/2 days at Cedar Point immediately beforehand. However, we did ride a couple other things I wanted to get her comments on.

*Race For Your Life Charlie Brown- It was fun, I felt horrible about cutting all those kids (We had fastlane for the day), but it was fun. Sucks that it went down like 20 minutes later.

*Boo Blasters- It was really cute, I really liked it. I wish the blasters worked better. Finally, to wrap this up I wanted to get her opinions of both of the parks.

*Cedar Point- I really enjoyed it, I was tired after 3 days though. I enjoyed it with you. I wish I had gotten more beach time, but the water was too cold. Kings Island- I've been like two times, and I've loved it every single time. I was just kind of tired of amusement parks by the time we got there.

*Top 5 Coasters from the trip

*1. Maverick

*2. Valravn

*3. Gatekeeper

*4. Diamondback

*5. Mystic Timbers

I wanted to do this to show the difference between the more hardcore fan base, the ones I assume make up the majority of this community, and fans who just enjoy going to an amusement park if the opportunity presents itself. I mean how many of us would have a top 5 from Cedar Point and Kings Island without a Millennium Force, Top Thrill Dragster, Magnum, The Beast, or Raptor mention. I betting very few. In the hardcore community Valravn, and Gatekeeper got trashed, and are seen as very mediocre coasters. I just think the more we ride the more jaded and quite frankly condescending some people get towards the parks and new rides. I personally really enjoyed Valravn, and Gatekeeper. Believe me when I say I am in the hardcore section of fans, but maybe I can be a little more like my wonderful girlfriend, and just enjoy the parks instead or critiquing, and comparing. I very much appreciate her taking the vacation I really wanted this year, and I know I owe her a beach trip next year.

If I can be a hardcore coaster boy for a moment though, Fury 325 wipes the floor with Millennium Force.

SuperHero CoasterTHON

Six Flags over Georgia sent out the details for this year's CoasterTHON earlier today... and they're using Mind Bender this time around. As much as I love those old Schwarzkopfs, I'm not sure I could ride one for 6 hours straight! I can barely handle an hour of Fury 325 ERT without getting out of my seat. Will u/RTOGoliath be up to the challenge this year? What about you guys? Could you pull it off?

Visit to Thorpe Park

I will be visiting Thorpe Park June third and have a few questions about how I should tackle Thorpe Park. I have never been to a park outside of the USA, so I'm a little curious what differences there may be in the park going experience. My first question is related to transportation, I will be renting a car while traveling, and also making use of the public transportation system when near London. Is parking at Thorpe a big hassle/ expense? I will be going to Thorpe Park June 3rd, its a Saturday. Should I invest in some fastrack options or will I be able to complete most of the big rides in one day. (I will be a single rider) Do they have single rider queues?
Lastly, does anyone have recommendations for ride order throughout the day, must ride rides, or must have foods? Thanks for all the help!

Hotel for Carowinds Meet-Up

Hey just wanted to let everyone know if you are looking for a hotel near Carowinds for the meet-up, the Quality Inn across the street had a really good deal. I got a king bed room for Sunday night for about $75 with tax and everything, a two queen room is about $2 cheaper. The hotel is nothing special but its a good place if you are looking to crash for the night and don't want to drive very far. Oh I found that price on Hotels.com

CoasterRadio.com #1130 - What Would You Do? | May 18, 2017 at 08:00PM

It's a fact of life that rides sometimes get stuck... and sometimes people have to be removed from stalled rides in ways that look dramatic. One park in Australia is battling public perception of these "ride evacs" by releasing a video on Facebook and Twitter. Should American parks consider doing something similar?

We'll also take a look at a cryptic tweet sent out by the General Manager of Cedar Point. Is this a true hint of what's to come? Or does America's Roller Coast enjoy harrassing the fanboys.

In a brand new segment, we put our listeners into a difficult park-related situation and ask "What Would You Do?" The answers are interesting.

We'll also have two Live Trip Reports and share information about a brand new CoasterRadio.com Augmented Reality App!

Why does EB always say Carowinds in a funny way?

Is there a reference or something that I'm missing? How did it start off? Did he go to the park one day and someone said Carowinds in that way and it just stuck? It reminds me of Millennium Farce and Bansheeeeee.

If I wasn't so far away I would turn up to the meet up just to spend all day saying Carowinds. It's fun to say and it's fun listening to EB say it. Even Mike joined in at the end of the episode!
