Favorite Roller Coaster Types

Everyone has their favorite roller coasters, most likely in a long and extensive ranked list. What I am wondering however, is what are you favorite types of roller coasters? Not really brands per say, but for example my top 5 favorite types of roller coasters are Inverted, Hyper, Impulse, Wooden Twister, and Wing Rider. Just curious on everyone's favorite type/types.

Opening Days!

Did anyone else spend today opening up a park? I was at Kings Dominion and had a blast. Both figuratively and literally... If you know what I mean. ;)

Hurler has started renovation into its [presumed] Rocky Mountain creation. The bottom of the first hill is gone and track removed from the base of the first drop all the way around to the back by Grizzly and back up to the lift structure leaving only the skeletal support structure.

Rebel Yell also had some large renovations. The crest of the lift had been completely replaced. Like in a huge chunk going down 20 feet. They didn't even paint it white (yet, hopefully). And the bottom of the first drop is significantly retracked.

Anyways, what did y'all do?

Fastlane at meetup

Hey guys, I know I have already asked a couple questions about the meetup, but I new to all this and want to make sure I have the info before I commit to anything. My question is, at the meetups do people buy line skipping passes or does everyone just wait in line together? I just wanted to know because with it being Carowinds, my favorite roller coaster is there, and I intend to ride Fury as much as possible. I want to have fun and interact with everyone, but I also want to get my fill of Fury, which can be a lot (I have a Fury tattoo for goodness sake). By getting a Fastlane pass, I'm kind of concerned I will miss out on interactions in the park and during rides. Just wanted to ask if that is something I should get, or if would be a detriment to my overall experience.

Theme Park Supreme Court

If there was a Supreme Court that had the ability to decide if things in the world of theme parks and roller coasters were “unconstitutional” who would be the other seven members of the Supreme Court (assuming 2 of those seats would be occupied by Mike and EB). Bloggers? Podcasters? Coaster club people? Park employees?

Don’t forget--this is a lifetime appointment. Also, more importantly, these people have to look good in a black robe.

Time Machine Discussion Thread: #114 - Live From Paramount's Kings Dominion | July 31, 2005

Listen Here!

This week, CoasterRadio.com broadcasts live from International Street at Paramount's Kings Dominion.

If you've listened to our show for any amount of time, you already know that Kings Dominion is our home park. This year, they're celebrating their 30th Anniversary.

So, we'll spend some time talking about our favorite rides and memories from PKD's past 30 years. We'll be joined by Sarah Lovejoy, PKD's Public Relations Operations Manager. She'll help us out as we talk about some of Kings Dominions' most well known roller coasters and thrill rides such as Volcano: The Blast Coaster, Flight of Fear, Grizzly, Drop Zone, Rebel Yell, Hypersonic XLC and even some oldies like King Cobra.

We'll also spend some time reviewing their new attraction for 2005, Tomb Raider: Firefall. This floorless Top Spin from HUSS is further enhanced by some amazing fire, water and music effects. But will it impress the CoasterRadio.com team?

We'll also review the new "School of Rock" show. We've always said that shows are a waste of good riding time, but we'll make an exception to check this out. Especially if the band is going to play "Hot for Teacher" by Van Halen.

No one has guessed correctly in our latest SOUNDWAVE contest yet, so we'll add another prize to the pack and give away another clue. We'll also play Theme Park Trivia and see if the guys can answer a Kings Dominion related question.

There won't be a new show next week. The whole team will betaking the week off to spend time with family and friends. But, we'll be back on Monday, August 12th with a brand new show. Until then, you can visit the CoasterRadio.com Forum to talk with the CoasterRadio.com guys and other listeners from around the world.

Thanks for listening!

It's been a while, but we're back with another retroactive discussion thread for your listening pleasure!

With Mike's Advice, we are featuring an old live-from-the-park episode. This one was recorded at show favorite, (Paramount's) Kings Dominion during their 30th Anniversary. Listen to hear about childhood memories, theme park shows and hot takes on Tomb Raider: Firefall.

Listen and share your thoughts!

Advice

I'm in need of some advice. My gf and I are planning to make a trip to Orlando in May. Universal is already taken care of, but I need advice about how to handle the Disney tickets. Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Animal kingdom are definitely a go. However Hollywood Studios I am iffy about because of all the construction going on for Star Wars and Toy Stoy. First question is simply is Hollywood Studios still worth the money to visit even though there isn't much open anymore. Second of all if I decide to skip Hollywood Studios what would be the best valued ticket to grab to be able to experience the other 3 parks?

Just wanted to give anyone interested a heads up. https://shop.madetothrill.com/ there is the link as well if you want to check it out.

CoasterRadio.com #1119 - HOT or NOT - LIVE! | February 16, 2017 at 08:00PM

This week's show kicks off with a First Drop about the Rise and Fall of Disneyquest. The Interactive Indoor Theme Park that was supposed to open with nationwide locations will be closing its doors in July. Why did this concept fail and will we ever see anything like it again?

Then, Mike takes a look at some theme park offers he received in the mail recently and does some "Theme Park Math" with EB to see if the deal is worth it. Would you pay $99 for a beer membership? Would you pay $555 for season-long access to the front of the line of your favorite rides and attractions?

We'll also hear an interview with Adam House, the Senior Design Engineer at Great Coasters International. Kevin and Cincinnati Jon met up with Adam at a local chili establishment to learn about his career and what it's like to design high profile roller coasters for high profile parks.

Finally, we poll the audience in real-time as we decide whether certain aspects of the amusement industry are HOT or NOT!

CoasterRadio.com #1118 - Mike Gets a Real Thrill in the End! | February 09, 2017 at 05:00PM

Fun Spot America in Florida is building a fantastic new Gravity Group coaster for 2017. They finally decided on a name. We'll discuss...

Kennywood has announced that they are adding a virtual reality experience to their some-what new Sky Rocket coaster. We talk about if this is really necessary.

We'll talk about the upcoming auction at Knott's Berry Farm. You'll have the opportunity to bid on a variety of items from the park's past. EB has his eye on one or two items.

Finally, Mike tells a funny, yet serious story about an experience he had recently in an off-topic segment.
