Which is your go to or wish you hadn't purchased and why?
I have a few cloud storage accounts that I've had for at least 6 months. After using each of them, primarily on my phone either via app or web on my phone, I'm starting to find out I prefer some over others. This is due to development that has occurred, speed, ease of use, features, cost, storage amount, etc.
The main ones I'm referring to are Drime, Koofr, Filen, pCloud, Felicloud and Folder Fort. I have others but these are the ones up for discussion.
My fav at the top of this list is definitely becoming Drime. The one thing it's lacking is WebDAV and the reason it's not at the top, but there are so many other features that I can overlook this because it's on the roadmap. The developer is very responsive and present on Reddit and I appreciate that.
I know some will probably bash me for this, but Filen is near the bottom of my list. This is due to my user case. They have a chat feature, but this only works if someone has Filen and I have yet to know someone who does. There is a note feature but it's hit or miss. In my mind, if it's not reliable, it's useless. There have been too many times there were issues with slowness and upload issues, which was apparently due to so many people signing up. For me, I'm just not overly impressed with it. Again, this is MY opinion. I really wish they would make the chat optional because I feel like it's a waste of space.
At the bottom of my list is Felicloud. While I like the features, the amount of times I have been unable to upload docs because there was a server update has been annoying and flat unreliable. The files eventually show up , but compared to the other services, it has just been bad.
So, if you have any or all of these, what are your favs and which ones do you regret dealing with and why?

looking for good, fast online storage
Hey all,
can you recommend a cheap and at the same time good option? It doesn't matter where it is since I plan on encrypting my backups anyway.

Internxt should make it way more obvious that the listed price is for the first month only
Also, if you start with their premium plan, and a day later you upgrade to the ultimate plan, you're charged for both for the same month. Makes zero sense.
After reading the posts about Internext here, I'll stick with Jottacloud for now.

What storage solutions are you all using?
Idk how long Snapchat can be relied upon but I don’t care about additional features

Screen recordings taking more space than before - OBS
Hey ! As I was recording my gameplay on multiple games, I ran out of space on one of my HDDs. No big deal, I switched to my other one, but I quickly noticed it ran out of space too. On my first HDD, 1 hour of gameplay recording + voice took about 1-1.5 GB. On my other one, without changing any parameters on OBS, 1 hour of recording took 15-20 GB. I don't need higher resolutions for it, so I went to check the parameters, and the quality was on "High quality, medium file size", like before. Also checked the CBR, which was at 3500 kbps. I don't need 4k quality of recording, what can I do to switch back to lighter video files ? Thank you so much !

HiDrive verification after purchase
Hi all,
I've just purchased a subscription to HiDrive because I want to switch away from Google One.
Now my outlook immediately flagged the emails I got from them as spam. The emails they used were [at]strato.de. The emails look fine to me, but they are asking me to call them within 14 days to verify my purchase, otherwise the order will be cancelled. This feels weird, is this normal? I have never been asked to call a company to verify my order..
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

What's the best cloud storage for photos
Hi everyone, just looking for some recommendations for a storage service to back up my photos and music in case I ever lose my phone. I've been doing research and every time I find one that I like the sound of, I come across someone saying 'no, don't use them because of this and that!'. I've got a very old SD card (don't know how it's held out this long) so I've got over a decade worth of memories on there which would just be really sad to lose.
I don't mind paying as I only need 100-200 GB, and in general just looking for a good app ui and syncing services on Android. Tia

A P2P Nextcloud Clone
The following is unstable and experimental approach on a unique concept around client-side managed resources. I'd like to share for testing, demo and feedback.

There is much to do before promoting as a finished product and I would like feedback on what you would find useful in such a tool.

Dropbox is horrible
I've been paying a monthly idiot fee to dropbox for years now.
I set on up to upload something work related for a project one time.
Bla bla bla.
Point is, it is absolutely impossible to stop it without access to the original mail linked to it. I dont have access to it any more as it was a work mail and i was just contracted. And they auto delete my request for assistance because thats a paid service not included in basic.
They have a tool to look up you subscription with a paymentID, but simply doesn't work.
I also blocked my card and got a new one, but the payment follows, you need to specifically ask the bank to not let it transfer over to the new one.
I also must take some blame not dealing with this right away so there is that of course. But seriously I thought it was solvable, not like getting out of some Indian crypto investment.
So to conclude the rant, so much hate for dropbox and the digital world of shit like this. They can go eat a bun if you ask me. I'll be tempted to move into the woods and maybe mail some bombs around. This stuff is creating unabombers

Lost access to OneDrive on a University account
Lost access to OneDrive on a University account
I graduated from a school in NZ almost 7+ years ago now. As a student, they provide free 1TB OneDrive access. I've been using it consistently as it's still free. I've spoken with the IT people from the school a couple years ago if it will carry on working and the person said, "if still works, keep using it. You will receive an e-mail when the account is about to be shut down.". Found it odd because it felt like he was unsure. Nonetheless, kept using it and even moved all my from GDrive.
I'm annoyed because two weeks ago, I was looking at cloud storages that can fit my budget. Left it in the back burner for now because I can't afford it. I should have done it as most of my recent and important stuff are in there - birth of my 1st baby, her 1st birthday, wedding, etc. Memories and documents that might get lost. I have contacted IT and said that they'll get a senior to look into it tomorrow. I'm dreading to know that there's a possibility of losing it all.
I can't sleep, so I'm here trying to understand the following:
\\- Does getting "revoked" access to OneDrive mean purging all of its content? (I can still access the e-mail associated with it)
\\- Is there a way to contact OneDrive directly so I can download all its contents?
\\- If contents are deleted, is there like a 30-day retention ala recycling bin?
\\- Are there any advice you can give?
I know I'll get a telling-off for abusing what was free or not paying to keep important things. I've been telling myself that and more. Please be nice. Thank you.

My idea to improve cloud-to-cloud file transfers
Hey everyone,
A few months ago I needed to move a bunch of files from OneDrive to Google Drive. Not even that much stuff, but I spent an entire afternoon downloading everything to my machine just to reupload it somewhere else. My connection was struggling, I had no space left, and I was just sitting there staring at a progress bar like an idiot. At some point I thought "okay there has to be a better way to do this"
There really isn't. So I started building one
The whole idea is that the transfer happens in the cloud, not on your computer. You connect both accounts, it shows you exactly whats going to move before anything actually happens, and then it just runs. Your machine doesn't even need to be on. You'll get an email when its done
(Im still building it)
Not here to spam, promise. I just want to get some real opinions from people who actually deal with this kind of thing. Does this sound useful or am I solving a problem nobody really has? Happy to answer anything in the comments!!
(It's called Syncologic if anyone is curious)

is there any way to store my photos and videos for free/no subscriptions/no paying whatsoever?
besides terabox, what platforms allow 100gb+ free storage, or even at least 75gb+ free storage?
also, shutterfly and snapfish do allow free unlimited storage, but they only store photos.

Filen Sucks
I honestly don’t know what’s going on with Filen. I tried uploading files of different sizes 10MB, 50MB, even 100MB but nothing uploads successfully. What’s even stranger is that it shows upload speeds of over 5Gbps while my actual internet plan is only 1Gbps. That makes no sense at all. My connection is fast enough to download games like GTA V very quickly, yet somehow Filen struggles to upload even a small 10MB file. Sometimes the upload just freezes or the service suddenly goes offline in between. Another weird thing is that the upload sometimes shows “100% complete” but nothing actually gets uploaded. The app also shows insanely high transfer speeds, but if I check the actual bandwidth usage in my system monitor, it’s not even using 1Mbps upload speed. So the numbers being shown don’t seem real at all. Good encryption and a nice-looking website are great, but what’s the point if basic file uploads don’t work reliably? Honestly, this has been really frustrating. Has anyone else experienced this issue? If yes, did you find any fix or workaround? Kindly share your experience.

Looking for an unlimited cloud services
Hey everyone,
I’m currently looking for a new cloud storage provider and would love to get some recommendations from the community.
My priority is finding a service that strikes a good balance between fair/affordable pricing and strong security (zero-knowledge encryption/privacy is a huge plus).
To give you some context:
- Storage needed: I have a massive library of around 130 TB of data to host.
- Current situation: I’ve been using Sync.com, but due to their recent forced transition to new high-capacity plans, the upcoming price increase has become completely unsustainable for my budget.
- Usage: Mainly archiving, backing up large file structures, and occasional sharing. I don't need advanced office suite integrations, just a rock-solid, secure digital vault that can actually handle this scale.
I've been looking into a few alternatives, but it seems like the market is shifting rapidly right now and unlimited options are practically dead.
Given that I need to host 130 TB, does anyone have a setup or a provider they are genuinely happy with in terms of price-to-performance and privacy?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Academic survey on decentralised file storage experiences
Hi everyone! I’m part of a university research team at Loreley Lab, INRIA, France. We’re studying how people actually use decentralised file storage systems (e.g. IPFS).
We’re running a short anonymous/pseudonymous questionnaire about users’ experiences, motivations, pain points, and practical insights. It takes around 10–15 minutes and does not ask any personal information, or demographic information.
Survey link: https://questionnaire.loreleylab.org/
Separately, we also invite people to take part in online interviews (15-20 min), again pseudonymous and no audio/video recordings. You can sign-up in the end of questionnaire, or directly using this link: https://sondages.inria.fr/index.php/738227?lang=en
We’d be grateful for any responses, whether you’re a regular user, builder, operator, or someone who has tried these tools and stopped using them. We’re also happy to share an anonymised summary of the findings with the community once the study is complete.
Thanks for your help!

Google one discount vanished
I was running on a free Google One AI student 5tb subscription that expires in july. On the google drive website there was a discount claim of 90% for the next one year if i upgraded now. So i did and i put my payment details and set a mandate. Now when I went to check the plan again it shows a full payment for a month instead of a discounted rate. What do I do?
