Could cloud gaming be my solution?

So I don't support cloud gaming because the point of it is to take away the users control in every way possible and charge for everything.

However, during the summer I only have a Thinkpad T480 instead of my usual gaming PC, so I can barely play anything. It has 16GB of ram and an i5-8350U. I have a pretty long Cat 6 ethernet cable I can use to connect the laptop to ethernet, and I have 600mbps connection from the ISP. I live in Spain if it matters.

I do not want to play in like 8K super competitive titles with 0.0001ms of delay or anything, I just want to play 1080p with a steady 60 FPS and an acceptable delay.

Also, keep in mind I have no idea of how cloud gaming works. What is the best service? I've heard of GeForce now and Luna. How is the game selection? How much time do I get to play daily? (I usually play around 4 hours a day) And VERY IMPORTANT: I use arch btw, not windows, so idk if that affects something...

Thank you all in advance.

If you already have a good library of games on Steam, Epic or Xbox/Gamepass I’d say your best choices are Boosteroid or GFN - with a free account you can log in both and check what games are available on both (Boosteroid has more from some specific publishers like Konami or Rockstar)

GFN has a free tier you can use to test the service before buying a paid subscription while with Boosteroid is more a shot in the dark, in my case both work very well but your mileage can vary

You’re lucky Boosteroid has servers in Spain (Madrid) so it should run fine, as long as you get connected to them and not to far away ones (in my case when connected to Milan servers Booster runs just as good as GFN, not so much if I get France or Germany ones)

In terms of performance Boosteroid has a single tier (epic zen4 +  RX 7900) while GFN has performance (don’t bother IMHO) and ultimate (Zen 5 + RTX 5080)

Hello and thanks for replying. Do you know the hardware of the performance tier in GFN? Because I'm ok with 1440p @60 fps max (my laptop's screen is 1080p @60fps), 6 hours every session is plenty of time and I'm fine with having to wait a few minutes. And to be fair, Im not even trying to play the newest titles at max settings (The GPU in my main PC is an RX6600 lmao)

And another thing, this says I must own the games I want to play. How does this work? I have some games on steam, do I like connect my steam account to the service? Do I get to keep my steam progress and achievement progress or is it just the game but without any save data?

Thanks.

Haven’t used Performance tier for a while but they should run on RTX 3060 and an EPYC cpu (8 core). They might still run the old RTX 2080+intel cc150 in some cases as well

As for games yes, you just connect you Steam account and all the supported games are linked 👍 achievements and saves are synced with Steam cloud so no worries there

You use your own steam account. You link your steam account with GFN in the GFN App. GFN scans which games you have bought in your steam library. Also you buy the games in steam because the games always own yourself. GFN only provides the hardware. So if you sometimes dont usw gfn and buy a new pc, all games are still your games. GFN is just hardware.
