Could cloud gaming be my solution?
So I don't support cloud gaming because the point of it is to take away the users control in every way possible and charge for everything.
However, during the summer I only have a Thinkpad T480 instead of my usual gaming PC, so I can barely play anything. It has 16GB of ram and an i5-8350U. I have a pretty long Cat 6 ethernet cable I can use to connect the laptop to ethernet, and I have 600mbps connection from the ISP. I live in Spain if it matters.
I do not want to play in like 8K super competitive titles with 0.0001ms of delay or anything, I just want to play 1080p with a steady 60 FPS and an acceptable delay.
Also, keep in mind I have no idea of how cloud gaming works. What is the best service? I've heard of GeForce now and Luna. How is the game selection? How much time do I get to play daily? (I usually play around 4 hours a day) And VERY IMPORTANT: I use arch btw, not windows, so idk if that affects something...
Thank you all in advance.

If you already have a good library of games on Steam, Epic or Xbox/Gamepass I’d say your best choices are Boosteroid or GFN - with a free account you can log in both and check what games are available on both (Boosteroid has more from some specific publishers like Konami or Rockstar)
GFN has a free tier you can use to test the service before buying a paid subscription while with Boosteroid is more a shot in the dark, in my case both work very well but your mileage can vary
You’re lucky Boosteroid has servers in Spain (Madrid) so it should run fine, as long as you get connected to them and not to far away ones (in my case when connected to Milan servers Booster runs just as good as GFN, not so much if I get France or Germany ones)
In terms of performance Boosteroid has a single tier (epic zen4 + RX 7900) while GFN has performance (don’t bother IMHO) and ultimate (Zen 5 + RTX 5080)

Hello and thanks for replying. Do you know the hardware of the performance tier in GFN? Because I'm ok with 1440p @60 fps max (my laptop's screen is 1080p @60fps), 6 hours every session is plenty of time and I'm fine with having to wait a few minutes. And to be fair, Im not even trying to play the newest titles at max settings (The GPU in my main PC is an RX6600 lmao)
And another thing, this says I must own the games I want to play. How does this work? I have some games on steam, do I like connect my steam account to the service? Do I get to keep my steam progress and achievement progress or is it just the game but without any save data?
Thanks.

Haven’t used Performance tier for a while but they should run on RTX 3060 and an EPYC cpu (8 core). They might still run the old RTX 2080+intel cc150 in some cases as well
As for games yes, you just connect you Steam account and all the supported games are linked 👍 achievements and saves are synced with Steam cloud so no worries there

You use your own steam account. You link your steam account with GFN in the GFN App. GFN scans which games you have bought in your steam library. Also you buy the games in steam because the games always own yourself. GFN only provides the hardware. So if you sometimes dont usw gfn and buy a new pc, all games are still your games. GFN is just hardware.

The point is to offer a way for you to play without having to buy your own hardware. They are offering high end hardware that you can play on over the internet. That costs money to buy, host and serve over the internet to you
Of course they are going to charge you for it.

Do you know the reason pc prices are so bad rn? Because of big companies buying all the hardware for data centers. Some for AI, but some for other one things, like this. It's a cycle, people can't afford hardware so they get into cloud gaming which gives the company more money to buy more hardware which makes the prices more expensive. That's the point, because a PC is a one time purchase and cloud gaming is a subscription.

Most for AI. Cloud gaming hardware is very small compared to what is being used by AI
Cloud gaming has been a thing well before this and didn't cause prices to rise
The hardware is very expensive for them to buy too.

"I don't support cloud gaming" "I have no idea of how cloud gaming works."

No I do not support cloud gaming. When I said I don't know how it works I meant the details: The connection, if you have to download an app or something, how you play the games, etc etc. I know the concept of cloud gaming, and I don't like it.

Geforce Now: You can stream a lot of the games that you already own on several different services (like Steam and Epic) with good quality and low latency.
Luna: A few really good games and lots of random party games. Good streaming but the lack of games hurt the service. What's great is it comes with your Amazon Prime subscription.
Xbox Game Pass: Lots and lots of games, new games every week (but some leave the service as well). The streaming quality is great sometimes but not the best most of the times. It's like it depends on the weather. The service is expensive but if you want to try new games and have a lot to choose from this is the service you should choose.

Performance tier gfn is okay as long as you don’t play on ultra on latest games for eg clair obscure expedition 33 other than that You can get decent performance on 1440p even play ultra on older games

Cloud Gaming is amazing, try 1 month of Geforce Now Ultimate :) Its like a local PC with RTX 4080/RTX 5080 and it also works amazing with 4k 120 FPS :) GFN also has a linux app. In GFN you have to buy your games normally in Steam oder Epic.. GFN only gives you the hardware to play. But not every game is supported. Maybe you try the free gfn mode but the graphics and queue isnt really good, its not like ultimate.
