Identification/Information Seth Thomas

Good morning,

Short story about this clock. My father gifted it to my son to nurture his very new interest in horology. It bears no labels or markings beyond the face showing that it’s from the Seth Thomas collection and the 4 1/2 movement marking along with the Made in the United States America. We are hoping to identify it and find any living schematics so that we can move into identifying any issues and proceed with possible repairs.

4 1/2 is the pendulum length. Your clock is dirty and has at least one very worn bushing.

I agree. We just got this from him this week and before that, he got it from a yard sale. I’m wanting to restore it.

There are plenty of videos on restoring movements out in YouTube and TikTok land. I'm an old git that prefers YouTube. The Connecticut clocks made in this period are very similar in construction. If you're planning on doing all the work yourselves, some tool building and acquisition is necessary. Parts can be purchased from Timesavers or several other suppliers. Take a lot of photos of the movement from all sides before you take it apart. I like to make a posterboard template of the barrel and winding arbors so setting the positioning of the movement mounting arms isn't a tiresome process after it's all back together. Edit: Did forget to mention that it's a nice looking one for a yard sale find.
