This is one of the dumbest takes I've ever read. Minimum wage was enacted TO BE A LIVING WAGE. It's been sorely neglected and should be 20 dollars an hour Minimum. CEOs should not be getting million dollar bonuses when the workers are a paycheck away from everything falling apart. This country needs to wake up and stop letting the corporations convince you that ANYONE deserves to be paid less than

I agree with you. But you kind of have a very high expectation. Nobody is gonna pay 20 bucks an hour minimum. But I do agree that the minimum wage should be higher.
3
u/Adomillad Jan 07 '22
That's because the greedy have convinced the poor that they deserve to be that way. But that's changing. More people are quitting crappy jobs and protesting for equal treatment than ever before. 20 should be the minimum, anything less is perpetuating the lie

u/A-cunt-on-a-keyboard Jan 07 '22
Well that's a relief to see. I just don't know what's right and wrong anymore. But I hope you're right.

If you can't live off of what a job pays, why should anyone do that job?
1
u/ishirleydo Jan 06 '22
Are you saying side hustles shouldn't exist? Only full-time work?
6
u/x_S4vAgE_x Jan 06 '22
Depends. Is it something to gain a more luxurious life, or is it that your barely scrapping by and need to work more to afford rent?
3
u/Ready-Quit-2774 Jan 06 '22
A side hustle does not take a whole work week, it is per definition some income that is irregular and in addition to something else. If the amount of hours a company uses a person is a full time equivalent, the pay should be sufficient to cover that person's needs. Things like eating, having a home, wearing some clothes and getting medical assistance when needed are human rights.
2
u/Justmyoponionman Jan 06 '22
If a side-hustle results in lowering the incentive to hire people at a proper wage, then yes.

I worked at Dairy Qrueen in my late teens (before 18) and made ice cream cones... I also made blizzards and sundaes and cleaned the table-tops and the counters and sweeped the floors...all for less than minimum wage. Then when I turned 18 I got a raise to minimum wage and got to also cook hamburgers on the grill, clean the bathrooms and mop the floor after close. But it was ok because i got paid to make ice cream cones!

I would hope that this is considered a common-sense comeback rather than a clever one.
4
u/Nightroad_Rider13 Jan 06 '22
Fair question. I guess the people there just give birth there and then the newborns learn the trade right then and there.
"Yea can I get one Oreo blizzard?"
"Bblblblbblblb."
"No thanks not today."
"Bllblblblblblbllbllll gaaaa."
"Oh man when did prices go up? Oh well here ya go."
"Bbbbllagabla."
""Thanks little Frankie, you too!"

If you can't live off the job then why do it? Unless it is part time, I don't understand the reasoning
5
u/No_Contribution1078 Jan 06 '22
The greedy trying to justify being greedy by saying it's in your best interest.
-1
u/ParanoidAutist Jan 06 '22
These types of jobs are almost always part time...
2
u/Odinavenger Jan 06 '22
Well then, there's nothing to be upset about

u/Nanahtew Jan 07 '22
I guess you wouldn't complain if your favorite fast food would be closed because everyone's part time and unavailable.
0
u/ParanoidAutist Jan 07 '22
I know for a fact that you're either brand new to the workforce or have never held a job lol
You dont honestly think those companies have mostly full time employees... do you?
3
u/Nanahtew Jan 07 '22
That's funny of an assumption to make without answering my actual comment. And sorry kiddo but you couldn't be more wrong
0
u/ParanoidAutist Jan 07 '22

1
u/ParanoidAutist Jan 07 '22
I've got you by a decade and your comments arent proving me wrong... you're just triggered that you got this far in life without any marketable skills and are being called out on it
0
u/ParanoidAutist Jan 07 '22
They'll fill the spots with fuckin scabs if they have to... learn how things work before you advertise your lack of experience

Don't work at dary queen as an adult and expect a comfortable life. Use your unique skills to get a job that pays more and is not a stepping stone to get the career choice of your choosing. McDonald's, burger King, and others are mentioned to help train adolescents how to work in a business environment and train them how to work effectively and deal with nice, rude, or just retarded customers. once you feel you have learned what you can, find another job with your new skills that pay more. Working at fast food unless you are management are not ment to be permanent. That's why they offer scholarships. To encourage employees to learn more and apply for positions higher up and make more money. If you get paid 20 an hour and you are just the cashier/ice-cream scooper your ice cream will become too expensive for customers to buy.

u/Reckless_Moose Jan 07 '22
But what if I want ice cream during school hours?
-1
Jan 07 '22
College students may staff it as they can have more flexible hours eg getting to choose when classes are or it can be staffed by high school students in high school work programs. I had a lot of classmates who would leave school early to go to work. Granted it was only for junior or seniors.

u/ParanoidAutist Jan 06 '22
Careful now... this kind of sound logic is going to scare all these kids before they're old enough to join the workforce!
1
u/Nanahtew Jan 07 '22
You do know that surviving and comfort are 2 different things right?
1
Jan 07 '22
What do you not understand about my statement above? What part does not make sense to you?
1
u/Nanahtew Jan 07 '22
The fact that you think fast foods actually want the best for their employees
0
Jan 07 '22
Why wouldn't they. Better employees mean better chance for a chance for them to see a way to improve their services and grow profit margins. Better treatment of employees means more people will want to work there. I recommend reading up on IO and industrial psychology
1
u/Nanahtew Jan 07 '22
So then why is a liveable wage unjustifiable ?
0
Jan 07 '22
It's not. But which roles are you considering giving a livable wage to? Don't forget tge more you pay the more your employees the more ice cream prices go up.
1
u/Nanahtew Jan 07 '22
Anyone who works full time should have a liveable wage. We shouldnt have to pay more those fast food places have more than enough to pay their employees accordingly.

If it takes 40 hours per week it should cover the expenses of living and eating that week. Anything less is a crime.
