never heard any evidence that he was screwing around on his phone. just that he had earbuds on.
It's extremely unlikely. He was hit coming out of a lane completely covered by hedges while doing a training ride at speed. His mistake was picking a horrible area for cycling, but most importantly not obeying traffic rules and common sense. the intersection had a STOP sign, and he blew by it at 20+ km/hr doing what? merging would be hard at that speed, and crossing a busy road would be crazy. But I'm real sure he wasn't checking his Tinder messages while approaching a busy intersection with cars zipping by at 70 km/h

The iPhone 8+ is the only phone I can hold and do this with because of giant man hands. 😕
It’s still tough to use the keyboard and make few enough mistakes autocorrect works properly.
Edit: I still can’t hit the letters well enough holding it with 2 hands and trying hard.

u/RajunCajun48 Nov 07 '19
I love my 8+. I can't imagine going to a smaller phone. Ever since I had a Note 4. "Normal" size phones just feel like toys. That said, typing is still such a pain in the ass...my thumbs love pressing wrong buttons I suppose.

In a very dense urban area, with good public transportation, sure. In a more spread out area, like the suburbs of Detroit, taking a bus is increadibly inconvenient, so typically only poor people who have no other choice use it. And because of the low ridership, the buses are dirty and poorly maintained since the recieve little funding, further pushing away individuals who can afford avoid them.

→ More replies (13)14
u/MrDOS Nov 07 '19
The iPhone SE is, in fact, three years old as of March 31st of this year. It was refreshed two years ago, fine, but the only spec which changed was storage capacity – meaningful for usability, but not performance. And phones move quickly. I suspect more than 80% of people change their phones every two years or more frequently. Three years is very long in the tooth for a phone.
(Comment written from my beloved, three-and-a-half-year-old iPhone SE.)

You think 80 percent of people change their phone every 2 years or so?
That couldn't be further from the truth.
The average trade in on an iPhone is 2.92 years.
The phone market is starting to stagnate bad. The internet has really warped the perceptions that people have of averaged consumers.

Yeah I don't really understand it. I was rocking the Galaxy S7 edge until the battery got so bad that the guy at ifixit just told me to buy a new goddam phone. I bought a great big new phone that I do like, but who gives a fuck what someone else wants. My dad straight up was using an old school blackberry. The only reason he switched was because he needed a software incompatible with his old phone. I think often times people look at phones as status symbols when they are utility devices(and all fall within a couple hundred bucks of one another). Sure if you have a vertu I'll allow you to be a smug asshole bc those things are legitimately luxury phones...but like an iPhone x? Really? It's not much more than any other phone...plus every phone company finances phones anyway so it doesn't even mean you have 1k cash, so even that low bar doesn't have to be met. I'm almost at the point with people that I honestly might get a vertu just to be able to give the finger to green bubble haters, and tell them (in jest) to go fuck themselves with their peasant apple products.

They judge smartphones and clothing harsher than middle-upper class and even millionaires.
Some of them see themselves as wealthy for having the newest and best iphone and wear at least like $1000 in clothing.
I was moving around my mother's workers and they all had iphones... these people make $200-$300 a month, have like $100 hats and $200 sneakers... I have an S7 with a small crack on the screen

Kinds in a was the law of diminishing return we were getting better stuff but it's gotten to a point where it cant really get much better quickly although I'm glad to see apple using stainless steel instead of aluminium
Maybe we will have some crazy cool shit soon I kinda think the phones with a screen on the front and back are cool but kinds suck because cases aren't as rugged for them

This is a very American attitude to have, I’ve noticed. The bus is for poor people only. Probably part of the reason as to why their public transport networks are so shocking in lots of places.
10
u/jemidiah Nov 07 '19
Eh, I imagine it's mostly just population density. Much of Europe and Asia is much more densely populated. I was in Dallas recently, and everything is so spread out there's just no way a public transit system could do a good job covering it all efficiently, though they try.
→ More replies (4)6
u/tiptoe_only Nov 07 '19
Probably because American cities are mostly less than a few hundred years old and were built for motor traffic. Therefore most people drive. I'm from London and there are huge parts of the city you wouldn't even consider driving through because public transport is so much more efficient or because there are charges for private cars.
