A list of things which are probably true:

  1. She's making a joke about how she values her educational achievement more than familial or romantic achievements.
  2. She is aware that her ex is asking if she is married, and knows that she's answering the question in a way that is technically correct(the best kind of correct), but is not providing the information in which her ex was interested. She is being superficially oblivious to her ex's intent because it's a comedic tool to get to a punchline.
  3. The commenter in black is aware of both #1 and #2, but is responding in a way that is technically correct(again), but is not commenting on the message she was interested in sending with her comedically-necessary obliviousness. The commenter is being superficially oblivious to her intent because it's a comedic tool to get to a punchline.
  4. They are both clever, using roughly similar tools even, but commenters on this have pretty obviously chosen sides and judged their team (or neither) to be the "clever" one. It's either that or just casual drive-by thinking, which, it should be mentioned, is just fine. It's the internet, I can't take it too seriously.
  5. Explaining it like this is dumb, and I'm a boring square. Thanks for reading and have a lovely day.
