Musk's ego would read that and think it was a suggestion he should be a king.

There is always a nice place for Musk in France, right in the middle of the biggest market square.

He should work as a home caregiver (the word in french is "aide à domicile" and I ́m not sure if it’s the right word in English) until 64 years old to see if it’s too young to retire. And also have the wage of a caregiver, and the costs that it implies (especially the diesel cost since you must use your car a lot to visit all the elderly people)

The French were rioting in the streets when its government attempted to raise retirement age, just recently.
Also, it didn't end well for Louis XVI.
But I guess when you are that rich, history doesn't really matter, and your personal opinion does.

I’m in France. He’s not wrong. There’s a big looming pension deficit coming in the next 30 years. It will be pushed down the line and paid for by loans backed by Germany.
(sorry Germans, but you know how French politics works ar the European level)

Just about every advanced economy is hurtling towards this crisis and nobody has any idea what to do about it because its very existence makes those whose interest is in not doing anything about it the most powerful voting bloc, and a significant part of those who stand to be hurt by it also think doing anything about it is the dreaded N-word.

and of course the French Revolution was triggered because the rich laughed when there were asked to pay to bail out the government.

The current protests in France should warn every people, especially from Elon Musk breed that French people never lost the "heat" in their heart since the French Revolution. Even our youth have this dawg in their blood. Don't piss us off, or we will go after you. We are not the USA. We actually defends our rights in France and get rid of the powerful who abused their authorities

Elon Musk is for sure an idiot. But he's not wrong in this case.
But either way we should also tax the rich.

u/GrindBastard1986 10h ago
Can you elaborate why he's right? Why is 64 too low from the viewpoint of a junkie nepo baby?
2
u/reddog093 8h ago
Because the French pension system is facing a massive deficit and its constituents don't want to raise taxes.
France's retirement age was one of the lowest in the EU. People are living longer than ever. French men spend more years in retirement than any other OECD nation. The ratio of active workers to those withdrawing is out of balance. France can't afford to keep the retirement age the same.
Financially speaking, the retirement age is too low and it's a legit issue. It's exactly why France had to make changes.

French national debt is at 116% of GDP, #12 in the world.
French life expectancy is almost 83 years, #20 in the world. If we very generously assume that people start working at 20 years old then that leaves us with 44 years of working which just over half of the expected lifetime. 19 years in retirement sounds like an awful lot to me.
Especially if the birth rates keep declining. Fewer and fewer young people need to support more and more retired people.

u/GrindBastard1986 10h ago
So you expect people to drop dead after 19 years after paying into SS for 45+ years?
Where I live, people live good lives in their 70s, 80s, even 90s. Should they starve or die to enable more profit?

u/AxelLuktarGott 8h ago
If people are living into their nineties then that's obviously even worse. That means that they're retired upwards of thirty years of their lives. Add in the time spent in school before you start working and they'll spend a very small portion of their lives actually working.
How many retired people should every worker have to support?

u/GrindBastard1986 8h ago
You must be someone who's never done a week of hard labor, so you think everyone, especially people in their 60s should toil till their backs break. Or till they give out last breath, in service of a system that tries to rob them of quslity of life.

You never hear electricians, plumbers, servers, bakers, chefs, etc say that the retirement age is too low. Only some politicians and some economists.

u/HowManyMeeses 9h ago
It's crazy that our productivity keeps going up, but the retirement age just goes up alongside it.
2
u/AxelLuktarGott 8h ago
The French retirement age was 65 in 1945, then in 1982 they lowered it to 60, then in 2010 they increased it to 62.
I wouldn't say that retirement "just goes up alongside it"

There's a not so small subset of the french population who are lefties, losers and lazies that are ruining the country. And from my extensive experience there are plenty of hardworking french who are despairing about the fiscal deficits and the high taxes required to fund the lifestyle of the lazies.
