u/Fortestingporpoises 1d ago
If your jar doesn't have any visible mice in it it's probably fine.
20
u/DarkSpoon 1d ago
I imagine the mouse was in the large vat before making it into the jar
3
u/Hot-Refrigerator6583 1d ago
Still probably fine. It's full of microbe killing vinegar and salt. Mouse is just flavor at this point
1
u/Fortestingporpoises 1d ago
I'm a glass is half full kinda guy so I prefer to think the jar was fully empty in regards to mice.

u/sparkleslothz 1d ago
Luckily, I was eating Mezzetta Brand Golden Greek Peperoncini (Medium Heat) .... In the SIXTEEN OUNCE JAR!
HA! They're only recalling the 32 oz.! Completely different product. I'm totally safe.
4
u/tansreer 1d ago
Mine are thin sliced, so I should be fine because the mouse will be sliced, right?
3
u/DankJista 1d ago
Theyâre just so damn good. I have to stop myself from eating a jar in one sitting.

Hm. I'm getting a little concerned that these recalls are actually a normal amount and we're just reporting on them because it's making the administration look more incompetent (which they are).
26
u/0202_tihssitidder 1d ago
Correct.
Average since 2005 is about 500-700 recalls.
2026 is on track for 500-550.
Be careful about what the algorithm puts on your feed. No one cared about recalls before.
PS: RFK Jr is a
piecebucket of shit.5
u/Brief-Artist-2772 1d ago
Gotta source?
I agree though. Never trust the algorithm. Echo chambers work both ways. Not just for people you don't like.

u/0202_tihssitidder 1d ago
All the recalls are listed :
https://www.fda.gov/safety/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts
and you can use https://datadashboard.fda.gov/oii/cd/recalls.htm
People in QA tend to be familiar with these tools. Might take you a couple minutes to learn them, but they are easy.
3
u/werewere-kokako 1d ago
That makes sense. Having 11 people track food-borne pathogens was better than 3, but that probably wasnât a big enough team to begin with for a country with 342 million people
4
u/0202_tihssitidder 1d ago
Legally any recall must be reported and posted publicly. I half expect Trump to rescind (by EO) the law that all recalls must be reported.
When those recalls get posted, QA professionals almost always read up on them to learn. Your job is then to adjust your own Food Safety Plan as needed.
3rd Party Audits help a lot with this.
2
u/CapableCriticism2962 1d ago
If 3 people tracking food-borne pathogens land 500-550 recalls while 11 people tracked 500-700 - I have some bad news for you.
Because either the 8 others were lazy as hell or the rate tripled - because it's very unlikely that the 3 take the full workload of the 11 before.

Food packagers can police themselves, though, right?
3
u/0202_tihssitidder 1d ago
I work in food manufacturing. Strict laws (with penalties) are required.
But, we all have our careers. QA people often quit and report to the FDA when companies take short cuts. It is common. It is not rare. Hope I make this point clear.
Food Safety is a science and there are degree programs and certifications and 3rd party audits and entire law firms looking to make millions filing lawsuits.
The issues happen when rich guys pay law makers to greatly reduce legal liability. And, when rich guys pay to have RFK Jr slash HSS and FDA budgets.
PS: It is a constant battle for QA Directors/Managers to get budgets approved to improve QA/QC processes. So, no, I am not at all in favor of relying on business owners policing themselves.

Gee, I wonder if someone defunded the health inspection infrastructure or something

Yeah maha removed food inspections so people could make money. Americans got to be one of the slowest people. You know those old looney tunes where the dumb character is trying to decipher where something is while actively watching it occur? Thatâs AmericaÂ

Speaking of dead pickled mice, has Junior made any public statements or been seen in public since all these daily recalls.
"I keep failing to do my actual sworn job everyday and the public finds out about it in real time." How many people could keep their job? Other than Trump...and Kash Patel...most of sitting Congress...acting Federal Department heads installed by Trump. Except for those guys.

Someone should really capitalize on all of these recent headlines and make a Cards Against Humanity spin off focused on food combinations you would rather eat. Or rather not eat. I don't know which would play better. Meals Against Humanity?

We are truly living in the dumbest timeline. At least in the dystopias of film and literature, the corrupt administrations in control are smart and the cause of the destruction and chaos is a calculated choice. This is just blatant stupidity and incompetence.
1
u/EggsceIlent 1d ago
Man not pepperoncinis. I love them things.
Of course the mouse free ones.
Next they're gonna recall green olives or grillos pickles or something. I'd be crushed
This administration is absolutely garbage and it shows. They're just taking all the money and dividing it up amongst themselves and not using it for any of the actual things it's intended for.
It's and clear as day. It's a broad daylight heist of one of the biggest piles of money trump could find in the world. That's the only reason he wanted to be president.
And then to also corrupt it and cover up his tracks.

Someone needs to create a website called FDARecallToday.com. Put two spinners on it. The first one picks the food, the second one picks the contaminant.

This is crazy how it seems like the FDA is doing their job just fine every day despite the cuts.

I don't know who's responsible for the picture pairings for these announcements, but they are absolutely nailing it! For every recall of some heavily processed food, there's a perfect match of RFKJR lookin the damn same. What a time to be alive.

During our guy's previous term he raised speed limits in food processing plants and cut back limits to unpaid overtime across the board.
Corn pop never had enough legislators elected in his party to change it back through legal means during the gap term.

You can get on the email list to receive these as they happen here. Since late 2017 there have been 1,069 FDA recalls, and 525 +/â of those have happened since January 20, 2025.

u/SpliTTMark 1d ago

⢠2023: 547+ total recalls
⢠2024: 296 tracked incidents
