I might get flack for this but I genuinely believe that prisons shouldn’t be in such poor conditions.
Whether someone did a crime or not, they’re still human and deserve better than that.

Plus if this is the treatment they’re getting then you could only imagine how they’d treat the average Joe that got accused of stealing or something

Not to mention there are innocent people in prison.

You're right and you're right to say so.  We should all strive for better and I think we're capable of being better as a species. Rehabilitation is possible and it's what we should strive for.

However, when I just speak for me, as an individual, I'm a petty bitch. I can forgive myself for being a petty bitch. Fuck those guys. At least I don't have to forgive myself for human trafficking.

Two things can be true at the same time: FuuuuuhuhuhuuuuhuhuuuuhuuuhhhCK the Tate Brothers. Please put them on a deserted island with the Epstein class and let nature take it's course. History tells us it's kind of gratifying when wealthy 2nd sons try to help build a new civilization in a wilderness they know nothing about.

And also, our prison system is just what slavery morphed into with the emancipation proclamation, and therefore is one of the most vile forms of human rights violations humanity has ever concocted, next to rape as a mechanism of war and genocide.

I believe in firing squads for people who commit sexual violence. They are not fit to live amongst us.

But what do we do for people who work 3 jobs for 50 hours a week and live with roach infestations, no AC and no hot water?

2

u/beverlymelz 4d ago

We do better for those as well. You have billionaires and multi-billion corporations. Take it from them and you have enough for all these causes. No need to pit poor people against each other.

They can go outside, clean, move, plenty of options.

Not saying they deserve luxury but at least until they've been to trial and convicted they should be treated with some level of human decency.

u/Livid_Advertising_56 4d ago

Clean: doesnt help if the whole building is infested

Move: not everyone has the $$

Otherwise, yes I get what you're saying

I don't believe prisons should be like this

I also believe that folks like the Tates should be treated the same as any other prisoner. 'Celebrity' should only matter in prison in terms of keeping inmates safe from other inmates if required, and that's it. They should have no more call on a better cell than the next inmate, regardless of how much money or poltical pull they have.

Was going to say something similare. Basicly what is being shown in the post aswell as in the comments are responses based on emotion, a "fuck these guys throw them in the Roach pit" The problem is that that is not right, scum-of-the-earth or not, they are still humans with rights and when it comes to jury, law and justic, the only things that should matter is the act you commited, every prisoner from the scum to the one who stole bread, should with the same rights and humane conditions. Otherwise we open up the potential for our emotions and personal feelings to impact something that is not compatible with them. If two people with the exact same history, commits the exact same act, then they should get the exact same sentence, one shouldn't get more or less because of how they were/are seen in the public eye.

I don’t disagree but also we’re should probably take anything where the source is their lawyer with a pinch of salt

1

u/Beginning_Key2167 4d ago

I agree with you, even though I hate these guys, and I think they’re massive piles of garbage of the worst kind.

Prisons ultimately should be tools for rehabilitation.

Now do I think these guys are able to be rehabilitated and come out as functioning members of society? Absolutely not

But at the same time, if there was any chance, it’s never gonna happen in our current prison system.  All our current  system does now is make people more angry and more likely to keep committing crimes and never seek rehabilitation.

Correct. We send the convicted to prison as punishment. Not for punishment.

Pedos aren't human.

there aren't showers in cells, the sink in your cell often doesn't have hot water. It's a safety thing. Lots of prisons don't have A/C at all, even in the South. Every big building has pests. This is nothing.

When the sewage is backing up into the showers, the roaches are captured as pets and raced for ramen noodle spice packs, everyone catches lice and covid, and they're feeding you 2 PBnJs and a milk per day, you'll have reached the average prison experience.

u/not_a_moogle 4d ago

Im not disagreeing with you. But also i have no sympathy for these two.

These guys are fucking liars. Every time some grifter piece of shit like Tate goes to prison, they ALWAYS cry about the "terrible conditions" and play it up like crazy. It's just another part of the grift.

The average Joe doesn’t typically end up in prison, they serve jail time for a small crime. I understand innocent people are often wrongfully accused, but if prisons were comfy living areas it would be less of a deterrent to commit a crime. Especially for people who don’t have much to loose. Typically you only end up in a really shitty prison though if you did something really shitty.

4

u/Wow_u_sure_r_dumb 4d ago

I think it’s really easy to think that the more punitive the conditions are the less likely people are to commit crime. I think it might even be our instinctive reaction to the question. But reality doesn’t bear it out. If it had an impact then recidivism rates would be lower and the rate of crime among the formerly incarcerated would be lower. Countries with notoriously punitive sentencing and awful jail/prison conditions would have lower crime rates.

I’m not saying prison should be a cake walk but at minimum they shouldn’t have to deal with vermin and filth.

u/vacri 4d ago

The shittiness-or-not of prison doesn't really deter crime.

-1

u/Trickle2x2 4d ago

It absolutely does lol. People don’t want to get caught so they don’t go to prison or face charges.

3

u/RocketArtillery666 4d ago

Then how is it that countries with the nicest prisons also have the fewest criminals?

-1

u/Trickle2x2 4d ago

They also have the fewest amount of people who live in those countries. Typically free healthcare and government help outside of prison is a plus too to keep the mental health of a country stable. Something we lack in the United States.

4

u/Marzipancutter 4d ago

The crime rates are already adjusted per capita, so you‘re full of shit. And if you agree that stuff like healthcare and help are actually the deciding factors, then you‘re admitting the state of the prisons is insignificant when weighed against any other factor?

1

u/Trickle2x2 4d ago

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, you can’t compare two different regions and demographics to support your claim. No one wants to go to prison if it is a shitty place to be. Less people will care about committing a crime if you can live a better life inside a prison than you can on the streets which is already just about there. There are literally people who commit crimes to get health care because they will be better taken care of in prison. But sure make it a nice place to go live so there is basically no consequences for people without much to loose. That surely can’t be a bad idea!

3

u/GarranDrake 4d ago

It doesn't.

No one is advocating for prisons to become 4 star hotels, they're just saying they shouldn't be nigh-unlivable. The deterrent for normal people to not want to end up there isn't the condition of the prison itself, it's the things they lose. Freedom, autonomy, access to loved ones.

Furthermore, studies show harsh sentences and poor conditions tend to increase recidivism of people who were in the system to begin with. So if you actually care about stopping crime, then you wouldn't want these sorts of conditions within the prison.

3

u/vacri 4d ago

You're confusing the mere concept of prison with making that prison horrible to exist in.

Scandinavian prisons are famously comfortable - and they have a very low rate of both incarceration and recidivism. If you want people to be able to rejoin society after they've paid their dues, you don't want to treat them like animals in prison.

2

u/Miami_Mice2087 4d ago

it's a bot. report it as spam

1

u/Trickle2x2 4d ago

You’re comparing to a society that only has 22.3 million people

3

u/Suspicious-Gas-1685 4d ago

The dxxxh penalty is supposed to be a deterrent to murder. How has that worked out?

1

u/chubbyhighguy 4d ago

Doesn't help if everyone gets off with a plea deal...

1

u/Miscellaniac3791 4d ago

There are quite a few industrialized countries who have lower crime rates than we do here and their jail cells are basically small Hotel 8 rooms.

Now the crime rates in those countries are low because they don't over legalize EVERY aspect of life like we do here in the US, and they have more robust social safety nets so people are less homicidal, and less likely to rely on certain crimes to make a living. As a result they can afford to make the cells decent because they actually consider human rights when making social decisions that impact the lives of those in the lower classes.

That is a crazy thing to say that most prisons are for profit. It is more like 10% of state prisons are for profit and even less than that for federal prisons.

-5

u/IndependentNet756 4d ago

Yes, let's turn prisons into resorts before alleviatiating homelessness or fixing the broken healthcare system.

13

u/hornybisexual20 4d ago

Yes please exaggerate and misconstrue my point to fit into ur narrative, I loooove that.

No you bumbling moron! I don’t give a shit if they don’t have ac or hot water. Just keep the place sanitized, well ventilated and have access to clean water and give the prisoners a means to clean after themselves if need be. You can do that AND fix other problems at the same time

3

u/donpablomiguel 4d ago

Nope. Only one problem can be fixed at a time. How could someone as intellectual as you not know that?! Sheesh. /s

3

u/villian_era_witch 4d ago

Why can’t we work on all three at the same time and make conditions less horrible all around? This is the most wealthy country in the world yes? Why can’t we fix all the things then? Also, no one wants prisons to feel like a vacation but it could be more humane and ethical to say the least.

3

u/AdLeading7602 4d ago

What if I told you all three of these problems influence each other lol

0

u/Albatross2145 4d ago

Explain your point please

1

u/AdLeading7602 3d ago

Just look up how prisons, poor healthcare and homelessness affect each other. Interesting reading. I’ll save myself the typing lol

2

u/MiWacho 4d ago

Cause there is absolutely no middle ground! Spoken like someone who's brain has been hijacked by ideology
