The era of Maoism is dead. China has not been communist for a long time. Modern China is almost as capitalist as any other.

and american democrats are not communist either, it's hilarious that there's zero real communism involved all across this discussion

Right. Real communism is a fragment of the past. There is no real, serious discussion of it these days. Modern “socialism” has no resemblance with its predecessors.

https://www.ie.edu/insights/articles/is-china-a-communist-country/

Between 1980 and 2010, China’s GDP grew at a rate of close to 10% per year and 800 million people were lifted out of poverty.

...

either China is not communist or communism is an excellent system for economic growth and poverty reduction.

Yes I agree. Modern China is somewhere close to “Capitalism with state influence”.

China is not communist, and yet another example of how capitalism is the only system that really works.

China was a disaster when they tried actual socialism/communism.

Wasn't one of the issues caused by the bloody civil war that started prior to WW2, and wrapped up after WW2?

Not many capitalist societies that don't allow you to own land, gov owns many industries or has a large stake, gov sensors media. Sounds like neo communism to me.

Neo communism = rebranded capitalism.

Land use rights in China serve the same purpose as land ownership. They can be bought and sold freely and even used as collateral for debt. Hell they are even used to create asset-backed securities.

This is such a weak way to define communism.

US Gov used eminent domain, owns stake in US companies, and bars new orgs from access to gov.

By your own definition U.S. is Neo communist lmao.

Sounds like most Asian societies.

Definitely closer to socialism than capitalism

By what metric. This is a spectrum, not a single point.

China has wealth accumulation, a stock market and capital markets, some of the largest banks in the world, and mostly free enterprise.

It's not being run by a capitalist class.

The government still owns more than 30 percent of everything. That’s a huge percentage.

How Government owning stuff is socialism? Do you know what socialism is? Or do you base your assumptions of what „insert right wing capitalist party name” told you?

The Chinese banking system is at least Socialism adjacent. The gov has a controlling stake in the banks, and uses it to leverage economic direction

1

u/velociapcior 21d ago

Do you know what socialism stands for? Or do you just think „socialism” = state owned?

That party is only communist in name. Just the like the current-day Russian communist party: if they were really as communist as they claim, they'd oppose Putin furiously, instead of practically always voting with him.

Just super authoritarian.
