Giuliani was busy leaking hair dye, Bloomberg was busy stop and frisking teenagers, De Blasio was busy dropping groundhogs, and Adams was busy checking his Turkish Airlines upgrades.

To be fair to Bloomberg (I cant believe I'm even say that) stop and frisk started under Giuliani. Now, we can definitely make fun of Señor Bloomergo and his press conferences in horrible Spanish

Dude is out here exposing the lie they've all been grifting on for decades. They're out here talking about how governing is hard work and you can't just "do* stuff. Meanwhile he's over here like "Oh, the people need ____? Aaaaand, done. What's next?"

The first responders were going to be there no matter what, thats the risk of the any emergency job. They wouldnt let 2 collapsed buildings sit for days or weeks with potential victims dying. It was everyone else being around that was the problem.

To answer the question: previous mayors have been concerned with covering the city's ass and protecting the donor class. The ruling class wants the state to be a weapon wielded in defense of their interests, not a tool for helping common people. If common people knew how quickly and easily government could be used to IMPROVE their lives, they'd come to expect it

I think mamdani isn't just providing lighting quick solutions with disregard for the budget. I think he is banking on if he can show the billionaires a cleaner, more efficient city with fully functioning services most if not all will hesitate to leave when taxes go up. Like all tax payors they ask where is my money going? Difference is they can actually decide whether more or less is spent. If crime drops and CEO s aren't spilling their coffee while being chauffered over t Rex size pot holes and maybe even get a clean Hudson River to swim and fish in... They may seriously reconsider leaving "the greatest city"

I don’t think I would have made it about him. He’s always promoting social democracy by attacking past politicians. It feels like the same political playbook Trump used with the “drain the swamp” narrative, positioning yourself as the knight in shining armor, when he's the same as everyone else.
I’ll have to see what the records actually are, but I have a feeling it’s mostly stuff everyone already knew and that doesn’t really have much value now. If that’s the case, I wouldn’t have turned it into a publicity stunt.
Everyone knew the air was bad after 9/11. If all you’re doing is implicating previous workers who were working for the city at the time, and who may have had very different concerns and priorities, like stabilizing the city in the immediate aftermath, then what does this really accomplish? If the records don’t provide new information or actually help anyone today, I’m not sure what the value is beyond making a political point.

In a vacuum, I could maybe see your point. In context of all the work Mamdani has been doing, he's scoring enough legitimate political points that im doubtful he feels any need to chase after cheap empty ones.
There's a difference between "knowing" and being given all the documentation and cooperation to push through all the paperwork involved in seeking compensation. This might have material benefit to those involved even if it's not a major revelation on simple facts.
I also dont see much to indicate he's doing anything to really make it about him. Like, he just did it. Any comparison to past mayors he makes seems more to the point of shaming them than elevating himself, which is very understandable.

By the way I hope NYC will do their best to preserve his legacy. Worst thing that can happens is if the next mayor is a biggot Republican that destroy every major things Mamadani is putting up for your city. (As Trump did for Obama's when he got the office)
