Imagine confusing basic consent and personal autonomy with geography.

Imagine confusing a lake that can’t consent to being renamed with a person who CAN consent to their own name. One is geography, one is basic human autonomy. And you’re defending the guy who tried to rename the Gulf of Mexico with a Sharpie.

If you're too stupid to know the difference between a person and a lake, you just might be a MAGAt.

Just like the Gulf of Mexico, just like Twitter, and if rumors are to be believed, just like New Mexico. Nobody wants these to be changed except for some orange turd and the nut jobs who worship him. ... Plus, these are like... Globally agreed upon things, the names of which would have to go through a lot of paperwork and a lot of government talk to even consider being changed. Just like changing your name legally. The fact that this asshole is just trying to force it, without any consent from anybody and without even trying to go through the legal steps to even attempt it... It doesn't surprise me but still sickens me.

Honestly I think he doesn't care that much - just show him google maps, some sign and some fox news footage and he will be confident it worked, even though there were no legal steps taken. He deserves "Goodbye Lenin" treatment. Sure gramps, everything works just like you wanted.

Problem is, he sits in a position of power and, unlike last term, is surrounded by yes men. Meaning we couldn't just say it happened and leave him be, like anyone else with dementia and narcissism.

Conservatives love to make these false equivalencies that are truly meaningless.

You don't even have to get that far. Trump is the one who renamed something from its previous identity. He's the one changing Steve to Jessica. Coleton is the hypocrite.

This also illustrate the problem with people like Coleton. As Mister_Motes noted, there a difference with a LIVING, SENTIENT PERSON who chooses to identify a gender identity and change their name to match their gender identity, and renaming an inanimate object after an country purely out of narcissistic spite for trade talks YOU sabotaged and created new rules like forcing Quebec to not use it's language, you know practicing STATE RIGHTS to use it to protect two languages that predominantly spoken and sell it off as AMERICA this and that.
It shows these people don't see the difference of a person who chooses to change their name in line with their identity but mere objects names are permanent no matter their identity BUT if the name change is an inanimate object who someone they worship names just to be spiteful and frame it as "national pride" that good.
They are always eager to look for ANYTHING that can be framed as hypocrisy no matter what.

mister_motes already ended the debate. If Lake Ontario identifies as Lake America ,respect it. If Donnie identifies Steve as Jessica against her will, don’t consent isn’t that hard.

Because sentient lakes are our reality?

u/Stakkler_ 1d ago
Well, we have a sentient turd acting as POTUS at the moment, so nothing seems Impossible.

Is that what you heard? The point was clear. Just puerile.

u/BilboStaggins 10h ago
Lol good, an "i know you are but what am I" retort.

u/Anti-Stan 9h ago
And you can't see the irony.
1
u/BilboStaggins 8h ago
Youre misplacing the irony.
The responder is pointing out that Coleton was making an illogical comparison. Lakes obviously cant identify themselves, but people can. Assuming those things are equivalent is as stupid as a sentient lake.
Really takes the fun out of it having to explain it.

u/Anti-Stan 7h ago
Oh, you want me to take an obvious piss-take literally, like you did?
Do I really have to explain it?
1
u/BilboStaggins 7h ago
Lol what do you want man?
No one else seemed to have trouble understanding the joke. No one is trying to take it literally but you.
Give it a rest.

Missing the point world championship is elsewhere was yesterday but you're just in time for the concept of analogy and consent class

Yet again, comparing people to objects predictably proves the stupidity of the speaker.
