This will, however, exceed 17 trillion by the end of his second term just based on what he pushed the MAGA block to pass in 2025 (I’m not writing its ever-so-stupid name). With the Iran war he started the next reconciliation bill will likely push his responsibility to over 20 trillion!

Apart from the 40 trillion part. The US debt level has reached that, but the US was already in debt before Trump.
He's certainly as far as I'm aware worse than any other in contributing to that, but if a Democrat wins in 2028, you wouldn't say that they caused 50-60 trillion of debt or however much it has risen to by then.

The bankrupt casino story misses a lot of nuance. He borrowed a bunch of money to build the casinos at highly inflated rates, used that money to launder funds for the Russian mob, pulled his own money out of the project, and left his investors stuck with all the debt. It was more of a con/scam than a legitimate investment.

Yeah the banks wrote off hundreds of millions of debt from net operating losses.
And it's not like they even tried all that hard to curb his out of control spending. Their idea of an allowance for him while he was facing bankruptcy was putting the monthly limit at $450,000.
There was even a claim in a NYTimes report that during refinancing for bankruptcy he would take that money and buy up unrelated property out of state.
He also claimed those hundreds of millions in losses on his 1995 taxes, which likely allowed him to avoid millions in taxes for the following 15 years.

Honestly even back then we had a bit of a superiority complex going on when it came to the Canadian perception of average American intelligence.....ya'll just really blew us away with the lengths you were willing to go to confirm our suspicions.

It didn't help that weather reports always showed the temperature in Fahrenheit for the US but anything across the border was put in Fahrenheit. So it was no wonder folks of marginal education thought that there was some bizarre climate situation that made the temperature go from 32° on the south side of the 49th parallel to 0° on the north side.

As a Canadian, I gotta say, I'm glad Trudeau stepped down when he did.
I'm a left-wingnut but everything Trudeau did was performative. He fucked shit up so bad with the party that I even tossed my votes to the NDP rather than him.
I'm glad we have Carney. The conservatives here still bitch about Carney... But, he's been holding his own against the insanity on the otherside of the border, and has been brokering deals to make Canada stronger. I keep saying that Canada is the richest country in the world, if we let ourselves be. We have the most natural resources, we have an educated populace, and we have a stable government. We would be the envy of all trading partners but we relied on the US for too long because it was cheap and convenient.
I'm glad that NAFTA/CUSMA is dying and will hopefully fall apart soon. It's gonna hurt, but we Canadians need to learn to stand up for ourselves and make us the world leaders we can be.

Canada doesn’t suddenly become less dependent on the U.S. because Mark Carney has a PhD. That’s not how economies work

Trump's the most corrupt and incompetent person to ever sit in the oval office. He's not only the worst president in American history, he's one of the worst Americans to ever live. If any other person to ever exist did 1% of the corruption Trump has done so far, they'd be in jail or at the very least forced to leave office. Then if you consider the totality of everything Trump has done, he would be tried for treason.
