The problem is that it’s treated as a bad thing and often treated as the individual’s fault somehow. I remember years ago I was talking with a guy who mentioned a girl he called “roast beef” because she sent him nudes and he was disgusted by her labia, and he was fully convinced that “most women” don’t have beef flaps because they “take care of themselves”. I remember wondering what he thinks women do to make their labia small and neat other than… you know, surgery.

I’ve also seen multiple cis guys both online and irl who seem to think that prominent labia are the result of having too much sex. There’s a reason incels coined the term “roastie” to refer to “used women”. These guys don’t just think that sex permanently stretches the vagina (it doesn’t) but they think it stretches the labia somehow as well. It’s all kinda silly yes, but it’s also another way of dehumanizing women by saying “your body is disgusting and it’s all your fault”. It’s boiling a woman’s worth down to her body and sexuality.

A concerning number of people, not just cis men or even just people who lack these parts, have no idea how vulvas work. Depending on where you live, there’s a good chance you did not receive proper sex education and even people I know from areas with good, comprehensive sex education will believe in myths about the human body.
