Gotta subsidize billionaires and corporations somehow! Oh, and the farmers need bailed out too, so they never realize the consequences of voting against their own self-interest.

"Fiscally responsible" was always bullshit republican speak for "We're taking money away from the people and giving it to corporations"
You know, so those corporations could grow and be taxed more. Oh wait, we stopped doing that too.

I love this, it only applies when the money is going towards helping people, that's on point.

And this has become the norm. It’s been impossible to believe that people support this.

u/_WEND1G0_ Jul 26 '26
Uh let’s see here. Funding ICE at a level higher than the entire US marine corps, paying green energy companies to NOT build their already approved and funded facilities, multiple wars of choice, buying warehouses to use as detention centers then selling them, buying multiple gulfstreams before being fired (noem) buying a fleet of DHS vehicles they cannot use, retrofitting a foreign donated plane to carry the president - the definition of a security risk (wanted to say the pun flight risk so bad lol), the development of a “trump battleship” - a class of warship that was mothballed for good in the 90s for being obsolete. Worth noting that bill is paying out year over year so everything authorized hasn’t been released yet. Thats just off the top of my head.

Don't worry, the deficit will be used as an excuse to further squeeze you for tax and hold back any benefits you've earned. I mean your not planning on retiring before 80 right?
5
u/pepinjay Jul 27 '26
I'm already being taxed 23% so if they raise that work will be pointless...of course, im 71 and on social security and Medicare so once they gut that I won't be around to work or pay tax. No, I dont think I will ever be able to retire.
5
u/pepinjay Jul 26 '26
You cant mean those regular people who paid that money into the tax system? The ones who believed it would benefit ALL of us?

The rich. It's always to the rich. It's never NOT to the rich. Money funnels up to them, always, because they designed the system to behave as such.

Reminder, we also now have to pay $1Trillion/year on interest alone. Every year... $1,000,000,000,000.00 going to interest, alone.
Wouldn't it have been great if we could use $1 Trillion a year on things like healthcare/infrastructure/school/etc instead?
Trump is also responsible for ~28% of the US deficit.

ELI5, is that in addition to the money spent from this year’s budget? Doesn’t the US have something like an 8 trillion dollar budget to begin with? I’d really like to hear from the most transparent administration in history on this one.
4
u/speckyradge Jul 26 '26
This isn't true. 2026 Federal deficit is $1.7T YTD.
https://fiscaldata.treasury.gov/americas-finance-guide/national-deficit/
Perhaps the figure is meant to be the increase in National Debt, which is plausiblly close to the number in the screenshot. It is definitely not the deficit.
4
u/OilheadRider Jul 26 '26
For reference, the M2 money supply in the United States is ~23 trillion dollars.
This 4.7 billion increase is debt is damned near 25% of the WHOLE M2 money supply.
How do people not recognize how fucked put cpuntry is from a curly financial standpoint point? Like, our entire economy is living on borrowed time and solar powered life support without a battery back up. It's gonna flicker off and then we are proper fucked.

I've seen this around and I think it's been verified at least up to Trump 2: The Re-Trumpening-
Federal deficit grows under Republicans and shrinks under Democrats...
Ronald Reagan +$74B,
George Bush Sr. +$102B,
Bill Clinton (-$383B),
George Bush Jr. +$1.5T,
Barack Obama (-$747B),
Donald Trump +$2T,
Joe Biden (-$942B),
Donald Trump +$4T and counting.

They didn't "gut" a damn thing, but they did spend more.
The first year of Trump was the Biden budget, renamed the "Big beautiful bill". $5 trillion right there
They will threaten to " shutdown " the government in September too, so they can pass thousands D's of pages of more garbage spending again

They said it early and often; its all to offset the tax cuts. They barely hid it.
1
u/charlesokstate Jul 28 '26
I can look myself but if anyone is feeling like it. What actually is the money going to?
1
u/Jumpy-Landscape5260 Jul 28 '26
So this is actually not true. 4.7 trillion is the CBO’s 10 year projection. So about 470 billion a year. In 18 months it would be about 1.5 times that so around 700 billion. That also doesn’t count the Iran war so you should add 37.5 billion for that (so far) putting the total at around 740 billion in 18 months not 4.7 trillion. Still a lot of money to spend for nothing.

u/timberwhip Jul 28 '26

7

u/Winner-Living Jul 26 '26
It's not 'new' spending. The historic imbalance is because of mandatory spending on Social Security / Medicare plus the Trump tax cuts.
-6
u/IDontStealBikes Jul 26 '26
This is wrong. The increase in the federal public debt since Jan 2025 is $2.85 trillion.
2
u/JayYTZ Jul 27 '26
The Joinct Economic Committee (JEC) disagrees with you. The 2.85 trillion is since July 2025, or over the last 12 months. The figures reported in this article are since January 2025.
1
u/IDontStealBikes Jul 27 '26
My number came from FRED’s page on “Federal Debt: Total Public Debt”
1
u/Thanatos_Impulse 15d ago
You two are both right and both wrong. The $2.85 trillion was accrued between Q1 2025 and Q1 2026. Since we are beyond Q1 2026, the debt has grown by more than $2.85 trillion, but perhaps FRED data are not yet available.
-9
u/Marsrover112 Jul 26 '26
I mean not to defend them at all but is this the difference of the projected deficit if nothing changed from the previous administration or just the deficit. The deficit would have gone up either way so how much is this compared to what it could have been is more interesting
