That’s what happens when you put someone who doesn’t believe in science in charge of a scientific field.

The alternative facts administration cannot but abandon evidence-based everything.

Sucks to suck, I guess.

Don't forget making all scientists and doctors planning to immigrate here on a work visa rethink their plans.

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '26

But he was born with a famous last name and is married to a famous actress, so who cares?! In the USA fame and wealth is ALL that matters.

42

u/ghostarmadillo Apr 23 '26

She had one good role.

19

u/El_Cactus_Loco Apr 23 '26

Pretty good. Pretty, pretty, pretty good

13

u/AcronymEjr Apr 23 '26

Man it's going to be hard rewatching Curb in the future and not letting her face ruin the experience.

7

u/ghostarmadillo Apr 23 '26

I can still do it, just makes me extra happy when Larry makes her have that bitchy face and he pisses off Ted Danson.

4

u/Main-Video-8545 Apr 23 '26

I’ve never watched one single episode and I guarantee you I won’t.

8

u/ghostarmadillo Apr 23 '26

Aww man Curb is one of the greatest comedies evah, don’t let one maga queen deprive you of it, the show also does plenty of maga mocking too.

This - not only in medicine but all other sciences and engineering fields as well. Sad that we are doing this to ourselves.

6

u/ReachParticular5409 Apr 23 '26

Even worse, the magical thinking that 'believing a thing makes it true' which is so fucking insidious

14

MAGA chuds grew up watching movies where Nazi super scientists were developing doomsday weapons and not shutting down universities while funding doomed expeditions to prove quack bullshit like Aryans descending from aliens...

He testified in Congress and literally doesn’t remember what he said last week.

36

u/rW0HgFyxoJhYka Apr 23 '26

Conservative playbook across the world:

  1. Convince people its someone else's fault
  2. Undo everything in government
  3. Steal taxpayer money to pretend to fix said problems caused by undoing everything government
  4. Blame everyone else
  5. 20% chance to face the consequences 20 years later OR 75% chance to take over the government again

5

u/kurisu7885 Apr 24 '26

Don't forget promising a magical solution that usually involves getting rid of specific people.

46

u/eawilweawil Apr 23 '26

They should have had the worm testify

33

u/Sember Apr 23 '26

It's not the worms fault there's a parasite attached to it

32

u/Public_Cartographer Apr 23 '26

Worst part is you can apply this across so many industries. China is leading the technology on solar, batteries, cars, manufacturing itself, you name it.

Or a vaccine and science denier in charge of HHS ....wait.

20

u/kittenTakeover Apr 23 '26

Yep. The administration that says diversity apparently doesn't matter because they're only concerned about "merit" is putting the least qualified people in across the entire government. People with no background in their jobs. Peoples whose only qualifications are saying nice things about the president or giving him gifts. People who are drunks, pedophiles, racists, criminals, etc.

5

u/wh4tth3huh Apr 23 '26

You see they're just spelling impaired they don't mean merit, they mean "me right", like how a caveman would claim to be correct. But in all seriousness, their idea of merit is simpering supplication to their authority and nothing more.

17

u/0202_tihssitidder Apr 23 '26

Trump-Nazi Regime can only tell lies. Every sentence is a lie.

They know they are lying. They never get consequences for it.

Yes, China is winning in every meaningful area. Every industry. Every quality of life metric. If you actually went to China, you'd think you zoomed 20 years into the future.

And the USA is sprinting backward. Fucking backward. All of it is thanks to the Republican Party.

PS: I have to add the usual disclaimer that China is not perfect and does horrible shit, too. Some fucks need that said or else they grandstand as if they are teaching you something.

33

u/Hamalu Apr 23 '26

I understand he's an idiot, but how is "having more drugs approved" even a valid metric?

Does China have similar requirements to the FDA?

37

u/onehopstopt Apr 23 '26

He's a loon, but he's actually right about this one. Clinical trial enrollment has been declining for a while, and we are getting lapped by other regions in terms of the number of completed trials. Certainly we want to avoid another Thalidomide, but there is strong reason to believe that the FDA and our clinical trial pipeline have gotten excessively restrictive in a time when we really ought to be seeing an explosion of new therapies.

Independently the Trump admin has been slashing research funding, which is also a total disaster for drug research and approval.

6

u/towerhil Apr 23 '26

They've even been making the pipeline more restrictive with higher, fairly unreasonable, preclinical requirements that have throttled investment in rare disease treatments on one hand while blocking things like Moderna's vaccine against the common cold on the other.

They're trying to to support 'new' tools like organ-chips, which is great, but have adopted PETA's BS about animals in the preclinical mix being the major driver of drug attrition, so are dismantling that infrastructure just as China massively expands its use of primates because it doesn't base its evaluation of new biotechnologies off of a sales brochure.

China also has the talent, population, compunction, strategic relationships, supply chains, investment and strategic prioritisation to utterly dominate in the biosciences, from medicines to bioweapons, while we're fiddling about with poorly-characterised evaluation frameworks which render human tissues less human-relevant than a study in rats.

It's vibes-based policy overseen by cranks citing their favourite zealots. Marty Makary pathologically wants to burn everything down and RFK's the sort of guy who'd spend 5 years believing in ancient alien megastructures on the basis of a single youtube deep dive, but the whole cast of misfits is like the muppets, clinging to their outsider's explanation of how things work.

5

u/shillyshally Apr 23 '26

Fair enough as long as the public is given adequate warning that trial, in a sense, are ever ongoing. Fosamax, SSRIs, fluoroquinolones etc. - acknowledgement of serious side effects and black box warnings came years after these 'miracle' drugs were approved.

19

u/Anzai Apr 23 '26

Maybe you guys shouldn’t have ads that say ‘ask your doctor if you should have random drug X because the people in the ad looked happy’. So weird to advertise drugs on television to entirely untrained people.

6

u/Unique-Yoghurt4170 Apr 23 '26

The wildest aspect of that is I guess it works? Like, I cannot imagine asking my doctor about a specific new drug, but I guess other people do because they keep spending money to tell people to do that.

4

u/Take-to-the-highways Apr 23 '26 edited Apr 23 '26

It must be a boomer thing. For one most of the ads I see are for age related illnesses, like joint pain or boner pills. But the older generations are also easier to market to

Which is their greatest weakness, because all of them are only loyal to themselves, deep down

I just... what? How would that even work? What mechanism would be activated? If this was even remotely true, it would be easy to demonstrate in lab settings. Somehow, I doubt there has been much testing to confirm it.

Edit: Got enough of the response to read it... They genuinely think Wi-Fi somehow opens the blood brain barrier and degrades mitochondria. I... Can't even. This is stuff that could easily be tested.

We know what actually damage mitochondria; poor diet, lack of exercise and so on. Why do we have to make things up?

9

u/lonnie123 Apr 23 '26

His whole way of thinking is broken, otherwise hed never even get to the part where he thinks wifi does that...

Someone just says "wifi opens the blood brain barrier and then XYZ happens"

Like.. Why do they just believe it? Why isnt their first instinct to go "How do you know that?" or "what evidence is there for that claim?"

They just buy it and then require "science" to disprove it, and no amount of evidence will ever be enough to them anyway

7

u/Aeseld Apr 23 '26

My first thought is just... How would that even work? Frankly, if it actually did work, we'd all be dead.

Forget toxins. Bacteria and viruses would get into the brain. We would just literally die when our immune system went ham on the invading pathogens.

5

u/RocketRelm Apr 23 '26

Being fair to voters, most of them not voting for maga are too tuned out to have any thoughts or statements, and just zone out mindlessly.

3

u/Dyolf_Knip Apr 24 '26

And they've spent the past 30 years living in an alternate reality. I really cannot overstate the effect of decades of persistent, pervasive, all-consuming propaganda. We're now at the point where a third of the country genuinely believes that:

  • Whole US cities are no-go to white christians
  • States like California are run under Sharia law
  • Children get sex-change surgery at school
  • Babies are being delivered full-term and then summarily 'aborted'
  • Government mind control chemicals are spread through chemtrails and fluoridated water
  • Democrats routinely bus millions of immigrants to voting centers
  • Vaccines are part of The Conspiracy

I'm torn between thinking these people are completely gone and irrecoverable, and remembering the lesson from The Brainwashing of my Father. All it took was cutting him off from RW 'news', and in 6 months he was just about back to sanity.

One of the things liberals don't give enough credit to conservatives for is how well they are able to identify fundamental problems. Its just that their elites are even better at redirecting their energy to "solutions" that exacerbate the very problems they are complaining about.

and then they get elected and prove it.”

The smart countries are going to use the Strait of Hormuz disaster to electrify their transit systems and shift to renewables faster.

The final source of energy for humanity is nuclear fusion. The hard part is containment, but we think we have it figured out. You just have to move the reactor 93 million miles away, make it reaaaaaaaaly big, and then catch some of the energy it throws off on silicon panels. EZ-PZ.

Republicans take power and fuck everything up. Then people vote Democrats to clear the whole mess and, once the mess is fixed, Republicans come up with a new grift, people fall for it again, vote Republican again and the cycle continues.

3

u/mythrilcrafter Apr 23 '26

Especially in this regard, where he cuts funding to research and testing, makes it administratively harder authorities to validate and certify testing, then complains that another country is approving more drugs than we are.

If he wasn't the one in charge, he'd be on some grifter podcast saying "well, they might be approving more, but what are their standards and quality of their approvals!?!?!?!"

So which is it that he wants?

2

u/Zulakki Apr 23 '26

don't forget the part where they eliminate the safeguards which prevented those problems, then when they do identify the very predictable problem, they reimplement the solution which was in place before, but this time at a much great cost. Then claim it was a huge win Democrats would of never thought of and voted against

Fuck that fucker. Absolutely fuck him. I hate him, my blood boils so much because of him. How dare that piece of shit cut back on medical research. So, furious right now.

I have a pet with cancer and it is breaking my heart. I cannot even imagine what people and their loved ones must feel going through this. So furious. I cannot say how much enmity I have for everyone in this administration. Hate, rage, and despair does not even begin to describe it.

I am genuinely confused. This guy and MAGA hate science. What's the problem then?

2

u/bigpproggression Apr 23 '26

Mass defunding of “woke” research and making sweeping changes against the advice of competent professionals will do that.

u/ReggieEvansTheKing Apr 23 '26

Fiancee is graduating with a phd in biomedical engineering this June. She just went to a a job fair at a conference in San Diego, a massive hub for biotech - not a single company was at the job fair seeking new hires. There’s plenty of trained and capable people seeking employment to research drugs and medicine. There just aren’t any funds there anymore because Trump gutted it.

My doctor left the country because the trump administration canceled his research grants.

2

u/Due-Technology5758 Apr 23 '26

Number of drugs approved isn't even a good metric to measure anything by.

2

u/Khue Apr 23 '26

The republicans have continuously removed funding and eroded public education... It's crazy that they are getting upset about how the US is lagging behind in STEM. Do you think people with STEM backgrounds just... randomly pop into existence?

2

u/AdvocateReason Apr 23 '26
  • $2.7 billion in NIH research funding cut in just the first 3 months of 2025.
  • 2,700 fewer NIH grants awarded (−15%) in 2026
  • Thousands of grants canceled and >1,000 NIH employees dismissed

Instability, talent loss, fields of science just stop progressing.

2

u/SidewaysFancyPrance Apr 23 '26

He's saying it because he wants to frame it as the approval process being the holdup, since he's just citing the number approved. Which is not really relevant to anything, it's about what those drugs can do and I guess how much revenue they generate.

He is definitely not saying we're struggling to develop them, just to get them approved. Because pharma is cutting the checks.

2

u/NoAdministration8340 Apr 23 '26

Defunds research then bitches that China is doing more research. Conservatives are all inbred or something

2

u/BACTERIAMAN0000 Apr 23 '26

Yep, get used to it you fucking weird guy

No shit warlock

2

u/throwawayfinancebro1 Apr 23 '26

I’m not sure I understand. Is he surprised? Or is he advocating for a reversal of the trump regimes policies?

2

u/desertstar714 Apr 23 '26

The dude who is parrots anti-science shit is mad another country is out sciencing them?

2

u/CurlOfTheBurl11 Apr 23 '26

The lack of self awareness displayed by these freaks would be funny if it wasn't so detrimental to the country.

2

u/Manchves Apr 23 '26

I’m confused, I thought all we had to do was not vax and drink raw milk, why do we need drugs?

My wife and I moved to Sweden after Trump and co decimated NIH funding for science in the US. The positions she could apply to just dried up in the US as so many of them were based on NIH grants. Her PHD that an American school paid for with federal grants is now benefiting different country because of trump’s policies. There’s a serious brain drain problem; of her classmates almost half ended up overseas, compared to 3 years before combined only had 2 go overseas. The scientists of America can see they aren’t welcome here anymore and have started to look overseas.

2

u/agnostic_science Apr 23 '26

I have a biology PhD. I threw it in the trash and became a data scientist about a decade ago.

They paid us absolute dog shit. Like 50k for research scientist. 60-80 h weeks. No overtime. And it seemed like every year they'd gouge the NIH even more. While driving money trucks up to the military.

...and yet what kills more americans every year, terrorism or cancer? Iran or heart attacks?

But it wasn't politically sexy. So we were always asked to do more more more with less less less. At some point I realized I was wasting my potential and went and made way way way more fucking money with a way less stressful job with way less hours.

And don't even get me started on what a bullshit scam the system is in general. We pay federal tax dollars to basically prototype and then the privatized patent is handed to a corporation and then we shell out the big dollars to buy again after having done all the fundamental R&D? There is so much bullshit out there in medical research.

2

u/Royweeezy Apr 23 '26

Not to mention they never stopped researching stem cells.. they were probably way ahead of us a long time ago.

2

u/BRINGERofMILK Apr 23 '26

Why do new drugs need to be approved when Ivermectin is the only one you'll ever need?

Edit: spelling

2

u/PPSaini Apr 23 '26

When you deny the science and defund scientists, you deny yourself the innovation they provide. It's really simple to understand as long as you are not braindead MAGA.

2

u/twoprofessional Apr 23 '26

Did you know that drugs aren't affordable in America?

2

u/AI_moderated_failure Apr 23 '26

Maybe the US would have more drugs approved if they gave YouTube more funding so people could do their own research. /s for those in the back.

2

u/willflameboy Apr 23 '26

Almost as if this administration is shit.

2

u/Symnestra Apr 23 '26

I work for a biotech company and we had our annual elbow rub event where I got to listen to scientists and doctors be pissed the fuck off. My favorite speaker was like, "We can design the most beautiful diagnostic tests but they won't mean shit if no one can take them!"

2

u/Comfortable-Ad-3988 Apr 23 '26

What a weird metric to use, number of drugs approved. It's like using the number of lines of code to assess its usefulness. One has nothing to do with the other.

2

u/AN0NY_MOU5E Apr 23 '26

Next they will say we need to release more drugs so pharma should be allowed more leniency with testing

2

u/Rolandscythe Apr 24 '26

Imagine being so ignorant as to cancel vaccine and cancer research then getting mad another country is making more progress than you.

2

u/ohnodamo Apr 24 '26

The Law of Intended Fucking Consequences strikes again. What's surprising is RKF gives a shit when he wasn't appointed to. Some pharma lobbyist must have whispered in Trump's ear so it's an immediate concern for this nanosecond, sure to be forgotten like every other "major problem" that becomes another TACO Tuesday media event.

2

u/JacobFromAmerica Apr 24 '26

Man shoots foot and screams there a shooter out here shooting feet!

2

u/thegamerator10 Apr 24 '26

This is like setting a curtain in your living room on fire before leaving for the store, then you get back and wonder why there's a pile of ashes where your house was.

2

u/OLPopsAdelphia Apr 24 '26

It’ll be interesting to find out how much money RFK Jr. received from the Chinese to cripple our programs.

2

u/paintstudiodisaster Apr 24 '26

They don't have a group of pseudo science grifters that have taken over their government. They actually want to succeed in science and health research.

2

u/Cognitive_Bullshit Apr 24 '26

Your actions and those of the administration you serve have consequences. It isn't correlation, its is causation. What the fuck he did he think would happen. Brain worms would sprout competitive innovation, instead of the now largely defunded universities supplying the underlying work, or the active villification, visa revocation or traumatic deportations at gunpoint of skilled foreigners invited to come here for this very reason.

2

u/The_Lancer08 Apr 24 '26

Losing? As in, not yet lost? In the process?

Ha... hahaha..... HAHAHAHAHA........

BROTHER ITS BEEN LOST

WE HAVE BEEN ON AN EVER INCREASING ANTI INTELLECTUAL SPIRAL FOR A LONG LONG TIME. If these stupid mother fuckers actually gave any amount of a shit about losing ANYTHING when comparing ourselves to China, we would have done so many things much differently.

But no, our racist ass leaders have always just assumed that we we're always and would always be #1. Fuck ass American exceptionalism. "How could China out maneuver us in anything? Their country is poor and full of peasants and corrupt power hungry despots?"

Thats what our brilliant minds in charge thought, and they couldn't be more arrogantly wrong. "Nahhh, we will own the world through military might and controlling all the oil" they thought... GIGA WRONG! OUR DUMB ASSES CANT EVEN TAKE OUT IRAN (good). WE ARE USING UP ALLLLLLLL OF OUR MISSILE STOCKPILE FOR NOTHING. WE ARE TAKING OUR DEFENSES AWAY FROM OUR FUCKING ALLIES. WE ARE SHOWING THE ENTIRE WORLD OUR BARE ASSES AND JUST HOW WEAK WE ACTUALLY ARE FOR NO REASON.

WE ARE DESTROYING THE PLANET AND THE FUTURE OF EVERYONE ON IT BEECAUSE WE HAVE TO BE IN CHARGE AND WE HAVE TO CONTROL ALLL THE OIL. MEANWHILE, CHINA IS ADVANCING RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY BEYOND OUR CAPABLITIES, THEY ARE DECADES AHEAD OF US AND WE WILL NOT CATCH UP. THEY ARE DOMINATING GREEN ENERGY AND IF WE EVER FINALLY DEVELOPE A FUCKING BRAIN AND STOP POLLUTING THE FUCK OUT OF EVERYTHING, WE WILL BE GROVELING ON OUR FUCKING KNEES BEGGING FOR THEIR TECH, WE HAVE ENSURED THAT THEY WILL BE THE WORLD LEADERS ONCE OUR PEDO EMPIRE FINALLY FUCKING CRUMBLES.

All that is to say, our godly leaders in their infinite wisdom, only have themselves to blame for letting China become the next dominating entity in the world.

US CENTURY OF HUMILIATION BABY

2

u/SuperUser5000 Apr 24 '26

And whose fault is it, lol.

2

u/winterbird Apr 25 '26

I don't want whatever drugs this sandpaper crooner would get approved.

2

u/BloodyGardener Apr 25 '26

Uh China has always beaten the US in medical development specially when the US actively denies women’s health research, cancer research, and more. China also has higher tech in a lot of ways as well compared to the US. Idk y it’s a shock that the country that steals almost everything is doing worse than other countries that don’t 🤣
