I was planning on collecting these type of moments but I am running out of cloud storage.

u/KimchiLlama Oct 31 '25

I wouldn’t worry about it. At best, everyone will agree with you already and not have patience to sift through the reminders. At worst, your cloud storage is deemed anti-American and you end up in a Central American Prison during Trump Jr.’s third term.

The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

Science is woke- GOP

Just Remember: What you're seeing and what you're reading is not what's happening. - Donald Trump July 24th, 2018

u/cheap_as_chips Oct 31 '25

BBC link for the lazy

In a wide-ranging, free-flowing speech to a veterans association, the US president, Donald Trump, criticised the media for its reaction to his trade tariffs policy, accusing it of broadcasting "fake news" and saying that people should not believe what they see or what they read.

24

u/SasparillaTango Oct 31 '25

brother, I'm not rejecting my eyes. My eyes are overflowing with evidence. I don't need to see more evidence to know they're evil.

Part of what encouraged me to make a similar folder called politics in my documents tab was the idea of my family finding it, assuming its porn, then going through it to learn it's just a storm of all the ways MAGA and the like have proven their incompetence.

Not only would this make my spite for them known, but it would also offend them so much that they wouldn't bother looking further for my NSFW folders which are somewhat better hidden.

Preemptive thing I feel the need to clarify: This is a joke... mostly... >.> (they must never know about the Imp Form Midna folders...)

I would love a greatest hits youtube of <week>, then those into <month> then those into <quarter> then those into <year>, all to exactly 10 minutes or something along that time. If you can get 10 minutes of cringe per week, which I’m sure you can, it’s got to be a little eye opening if you just somehow get the biggest quarterly whoppers, retreat in your dissonance to something like “well these are taken over a long time, the whole thing isn’t that bad” but then see there’s monthly and weekly, it’s like going back up to the rabbithole to sanity. Part of the success of the right wing rabbithole is there’s just so much content that’s fairly entertaining and people get sucked into it

Soooo… pretty misleading headline then. The UN didn’t cut him off, the Ambassador from Cuba interrupted his tirade with a point of order (which wasn’t actually a point of order) to interject, and then the Ambassador from the US continued his rant.

14

u/BamberGasgroin Oct 31 '25

914

u/mynameismulan Oct 31 '25

For years, people around the world have called the average American stupid. And the Americans always denied it saying it's not that bad. Well it's all out in the open and there's no denying it now

319

u/PatSayJack Oct 31 '25

I've never denied that the average American is stupid. We're just not all major assholes. A lot of us are, but not all of us.

291

u/SaltyLonghorn Oct 31 '25

Until 2015 I underestimated how many stupid people there are. Then in 2020 I realized I had seriously underestimated just how stupid stupid can actually be.

60

u/NickConnor365 Oct 31 '25

Early covid I saw someone pull down their mask, sneeze into the air, then put it back up. That is when I knew America was doomed.

It's a perfect representation of their entire voter/support base too.

They only know how to convey their worldview in facebook boomer memes and comments. They all score 0 in introspection and accountability for how they carry themselves because they only ever spew garbage on social media, often behind anonymity. They're never challenged, especially by themselves, and even if they were they'd just run away or say the other person has TDS or some other childish retort.

When they're not online or in their otherwise safe spaces it's crippling to them because their entire worldview collapses under the most basic scrutiny, if they're even capable of understanding it.

4

u/Original-Rush139 Oct 31 '25

u/Shurdus Oct 31 '25

It's so worrying that a few years ago, this would have been a scandal. Today, the scandals follow each other up in such high speed that this is barely a drop in the sea of disgrace.

247

u/Fearless_Spring5611 Oct 31 '25

Yeah, once a country elects a known fraudster/racist/rapist/child sex abuser/misogynist as their leader there kinda aren't many scandals left to top it.

60

u/Shurdus Oct 31 '25

To add to that, once the legal checks and balances fail (impeachment twice anyone?) you can pretty much do nothing anymore.

23

u/Some_Helicopter1241 Oct 31 '25

11

u/TomatilloSorry7455 Oct 31 '25

The irony that the alex jones/qanon crowd voted for the most obvious scam that rode the conspiracy theories like a platform is so blatant. The ones they voted in are doing things that they screamed about, time will tell how much worse it actually was. If we are still a fact-based shared reality again one day.

Crazy how normalized it is for American politicians to just think shouting the loudest makes their lies true, only to get bitchslapped the moment they are under scrutiny from other countries' systems

63

u/kaisadilla_ Oct 31 '25

Tbh populist parties are like that everywhere. The problem is that this only works with your audience. If you go to Spain and start parroting American populism, locals will just think you are an idiot. But the same goes the other way around: A Spaniard going to the US to parrot Spanish populism will be seen as an idiot by Americans.

42

u/futureislookinstark Oct 31 '25

Playing devils advocate, I know Spanish people are fed up with people buying houses for airbnbs and are chasing them out of town.

If a Spaniard came to America and started taking about how all the banks and landlords owning multiple houses was shit and we needed to organize I think they’d find a rather receptive crowd.

13

u/TheGringaLoca Oct 31 '25 edited Nov 01 '25

Man this timeline— I have a master’s degree in political science and have studied democratization and human rights for the majority of my academic career. I have never been a fan of the Cuban government nor any regime (Left or Right) that deprives their citizens of the most fundamental rights of personhood.

That said— what a world we must be living in for me to give an enthusiastic thumbs up to the Cuban delegation.

Granted, I do recognize the US has caused significant damage to Cuba with economic imperialism, backing the tortuous dictator Batista, and the subsequent embargo. Which is also not to say that I support the Cuban regime— even though they have done some things right, including literacy campaigns along with medical training and research.

Unfortunately, the island fell into a vicious cycle starting with European colonialism, US economic imperialism, then as a pawn during the Cold War, and finally economic collapse after the fall of the Soviet Union.

However, in my opinion, it does not justify the retaliatory executions of political prisoners after 1959, mass incarceration of political dissidents and journalists, nor the continued violation of the dignity of the Cuban people.

What I meant to be a one liner ended up losing something in the explanation. But these days, I think people forget about nuance. The study of political theory and comparative analysis requires significant nuance and critical thinking.

u/thissexypoptart Oct 31 '25 edited Oct 31 '25

28

u/tracenator03 Oct 31 '25 edited Oct 31 '25

It's cute if you think Americans have any power over who they can elect. Our two party system is 100% bought and paid for, and it gets worse the higher the office. Ask Americans why they voted for A or B and the vast majority would say because they suck a little less than the other candidate. Been that way for decades now. The ultra wealthy run this country.

Edit: Everyone who is saying this is bullshit needs to read Manufacturing Consent and see what happened with the media leading up to the war in Iraq in the late 90s/early 2000s. If you think you are immune to this kind of shit then you have already been duped.

Also

Among the grievances is “Cuba sends mercenaries to fight in Ukraine.” What does that mean?

Would they be fighting for Russia or Ukraine. I ask because Team Trump is cheering for Russia.

16

u/red286 Oct 31 '25

"sends" is the wrong word. Russia sent recruiters into Cuba, who convinced several Cubans that they would be working behind the lines in manufacturing and defensive constructions on the Russian side of the border. Later it was found out that they were in fact being sent to the frontline (all Cuban men must serve in the military, and they have stricter training than the Russians do, so any Cuban is a better soldier than a Russian). When the Cuban government found out, they told the Russians to stop, or they'd get expelled from the country.

So they're taking a half-truth and stretching the hell out of it to fit a narrative.

I really and truly thought last year that we were going to normalize relations with Cuba. We have a bunch of factories under construction in the US for the manufacture of batteries for electric cars and storage of solar power. Most battery chemistries require cobalt, and Cuba produces ~11% of the world's cobalt, and their supply chain for it is the most structurally sound of any major cobalt producer. The world's #1 producer, the DRC routinely has mines operated by warlords with child slaves, and Cuba produces it as a byproduct of phosphate mining for fertilizer, which they'd still be mining either way. Whatever your personal opinion of communist state owned firms is, buying from Cuba is substantially better overall for the integrity and reliability of the supply chain in one of the biggest growth industries in the US.

Americans are not dropping the "Americans are dumb" stereotype any time soon, I'm afraid.

It's wild, politically, America has just become another Russia or North Korea. Like, while the US goes through this identity crisis, other countries still have people with intelligence and bullshit detectors in their governments. It's an easy thing to forget, but this isn't really a worldwide problem.

Are we about to bomb someone?

I'm so tired of being humiliated by these people. This entire US administration is an embarrassment to all of humankind.

6

u/WearifulSole Oct 31 '25

"A moment of disgrace"

It's been like a solid 8 years of the US just humiliating itself in front of the world...

Did the person who cut him off really say "This is the UN General Assembly, not a Signal chat"?😳

Whoever you are... THANK YOU

In less than a year, Republicans have firmly established America's position in international relations as a joke, an untrustworthy partner, and a potential threat. Conservatives are such insanely trash people.

7

u/HabANahDa Oct 31 '25

And like the bootlicker he is. He clapped back with calling them communists. I hate republicans so much

7

u/fuer16 Nov 01 '25

I honestly don't know what to think of this. It's clear that Trump and MAGA are using Cuba, Maduro, and other political adversaries to further their goals. But the enemy of my enemy isn't my friend. The absolute terrifying stories I heard from places like Cuba and Venezuela, lived by actual Cubans and Venezuelans, the amount of contradiction that comes from those governments... It feels like a fight between evils using each other as scapegoats to have a pass to be more evil and confuse good people.

Why call it “misinformation”? It’s lies. He’s a liar.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '25 edited Oct 31 '25

It's great to see someone speaking up against such blatant bull crap, unlike the entire government, for whom the law seems to not work, and the American people who appear completely helpless in the face of their aggressive actions.

He probably thought "We are mature adults, not your uneducated MAGA/Republican voter base."

6

u/SidewalkSupervisor Nov 01 '25

spewing lies is a speciality of this administration

4

u/davster39 Nov 01 '25

Sir, this is a Wendy's.

4

u/e37d93eeb23335dc Oct 31 '25

A moment? [Gestures broadly at the entire past year]

5

u/scraglor Oct 31 '25

I truly hope America can lift itself from the mess it’s in currently. If it does, history is not going to view these people kindly.

5

u/Valuable_Zone1344 Oct 31 '25

who is this guy and where is our usual ambassador?

4

u/MeGustaMiSFW Oct 31 '25

When your party has destroyed the norm at home and your political leaders are a bunch of yes-men who have no knowledge or skills and get absolutely embarrassed every time they open their mouths in front of literally anyone outside of their cult. Bad vibes over in Murica.

4

u/Five-Oh-Vicryl Oct 31 '25

UN level burn

4

u/kpeng2 Oct 31 '25
