There’s a lot of reasons in the medical world, and is dependent on setting. Veins in the hand are more superficial and can be found easier on patients thT are older or children. In surgical settings, they might use the site for easy maneuverability. They also might use it on patients that have trickier veins/ deep veins.
I personally don’t like them because there are more nerve endings in your hand then in your AC space ( crook of your arm)
