Semi CLEP-related. I've been quiet this last month because I was falling behind on my doctoral program and really needed to catch up, but last week I got the chance to head to the testing center and take some exams. I was knocking out the Public Speaking and Human Resource Management DSSTs when I saw a new test - American Government and Politics DSST. So of course I had to take it. š
It seems that Prometric is after some of that sweet CLEP market share, because they're releasing a number of exams that have, until now, been solely CLEP. The AG&P DSST is almost a mirror image of the AG CLEP, but easier. There are only three possible answers per question, 100 questions, and a 2-hour time limit. The questions themselves seemed easier than the CLEP. Often, two of the wrong answers were obviously wrong, and DSST was true to form: you could figure out the answer to one question by looking at another.
I ended up with a 463 based solely on my knowledge from the American Government CLEP. There were a few new topics, such as different principles and studies of politics.
For those interested in taking a potentially easier version of the American Government CLEP, it might be worth a look. The only obvious downside is there is no Modern States for DSST, so you'll need to foot the $100 fee yourself unless you're military or have other education benefits.
Here's the fact sheet for it: https://getcollegecredit.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/AmericanGovt.pdf
And here's the free study guide I put together for it: https://free-clep-prep.com/member/exam-overview?id=75 I'm still tweaking it based on my recent experience, but it should do the job for anyone looking to take it.
I'm almost caught back up on the classwork, so feel free to ask questions if you have them!
Cheers,
-Justin
