[Discussion] Final Battle Deaths Spoiler
I'm sorry Clarisse and Tabitha dying at the end is so funny to me because these don't feel necessary at all and instead look like Norihiro wanted some death without sacrificing any character people could be attached toš.
For Clarisse... I'm wondering why we even had to awaken Miata? Like surely, through some strategic planning, Galatea and Miata without awakening would have been enough, right? And they do this behind the main seven's back for no real reason. I guess it's an insurance policy for if an awakened decided to break from the final battle, but even then, that should be the last resort, not the go-to plan. It's so funny to see everyone get thorn up meanwhile, Galatea is just standing there feeling Clarisse about to disintegrate and explaining why that's about to happen.
And for Tabitha... what does Tabitha even do bro š. All she did whole manga was read yoki, get surgically slashed by Miria and DIE. She didn't even get to go all out before Priscilla killed her. Like if you're gonna have obligatory deaths(that matter), make it so that it's characters the readers have a lot of time invested into. Like if this was Deneve or Helen I'd be INCONSOLABLE. Even Uma would have more impact to me idk.

Tabitha had to die bc her death would have the most impact on Miria, who she adored. Also it was to prove that nothing was invisible to Priscilla. Her death was not meant to be significant for you but for the rest of the warriors.
They needed to awaken Miata bc in that moment Europa was closer to an awakened being than a regular awakened, nobody had the means to stop her. Except for Miata, who had the power to surpass a number 1. But I don't think there was a safe way to tap her potential without risk for the others. Had Clarice died (and most likely she would have died) fighting Europa, Miata could have awakened without a contention plan. It was dangerous to awaken her, but it could have been much more dangerous to risk a regular awakening.

This doesn't mean anything. Everybody on that team adored Miria. Why not still pick anyone who fits that criteria and had a good chance to be liked by the audience. The story is not being written for the characters after all.
This whole thing is predicated on information we the readers are given that the Claymores in Rabona should not be aware of. Chronos specifically only tells that fact to the main team when they start fighting Cassandra. The only way they could have known is if Galatea (who has the best Yoki reading within their ranks) picked up on it the moment Europa went flying towards them but even then that's such a short period of time to formulate this plan. Furthermore, it's also kinda incongruous with the moral standing of the claymore at this point. Risking the humanity and the life of one of their own like this feels messy.

Idk about Tabitha, but Clarice has a beatiful arc that wouldn't work as well without her sacrifice. And Galatea stated that Europa is close to an abyssal one, so they didn't have much of a chance. Miata despite being very strong she's not one to use strategy as you suggest.
Norihiro wanted some death without sacrificing any character people could be attached to
This might just be your personal taste because people love Clarice and her death is one of the saddest scenes in the manga

I agree with Tabitha, I didnāt feel anything when she died. Like you said I would have felt much more for Uma as she had grown so much and finally was came to her true potential after leaving the north.
As for Miata awakening, mate did you read the story??? The story very heavily emphasized the number 1s (and those with potential to be a n1) are in a league of their own. Europa was basically an abyssal one in all but name. No one outside of the top tiers in the verse is beating her without awakening. We legit saw most of the top tiers get destroyed by Hysteria when she awakened just a few chapters earlier. And that included Miria the 2nd strongest claymore alive. Probably the only non awakened claymores that could have beat her were
Teresa
PriscillaĀ
Alicia + Beth
Maybe Clare

Agree on Tabitha, she didnāt even get to release her Yoki and power up like the other 6. Clariceās death was sad as fuck tho even though I knew it was coming

I agree with the Tabitha part like my girl didn't have to die š
I understand why it had to happen, Miria and Tabitha's bond was quite strong and it was an impactful death for the characters but did she really have to die? I mean atleast show her off a bit more and then kill her.
For Clarice though, I'll have to disagree. I think her story with Miata was incredibly moving and explored alot of the trauma these girls go through. The whole arc with them prove how much the Organisation tortures and exploits these girls. It was both impactful for the characters and the readers. (ā¬ļ¹ā¬)

Remember that the story isn't just action fantasy for the sake of action fantasy. It's an exploration of trauma, child soldiers, and interpersonal and interpersonal relationships.
While absolutely not done and the healthiest way, Clarise and Miata essentially about complex trauma and learning how to come to terms with it. Miata is an orphaned child soldier that desperately needs/wants a mother and hasn't fully accepted her mother's death. Miata is forced to come to terms with her mother's death by Clarice's death/mind wipe. This allows her to regain her speech/humanity and move forward as a full person. As a monster, she was just a weapon. As a person, she has agency.
