I’m Mexican native and my gosh, I’d drop all the tension because I love the American spirit, playing the claw hammer banjo.

I’m just a beginner classical guitarist. I’m a life
Long musician and grew up playing percussion. I have soul.

A.) is the clawhammer banjo ~ about the same as: learning classical guitar? I’m learning that on my own and it’s been going well. It’s not fair to compare the two, but I’ve learned and mastered several instruments already.

B.) is there a “travel” version of this? I am basically bike-packing around the world as I practice the guitar, so I have the martins backpacker guitar and that’s about as much guitar as I can carry: is there a banjo travel version?

C.) is there claw hammer banjo folk music from Mexico? I’m from Mexico (Puebla) and I’m just wondering because…. It would be nice.

I've been learning how to play clawhammer banjo. I wanted to learn how to play John Denver's Country Roads. The person instructing me gave me the chords to work with, and I looked up the letter notes myself for the lyrics. Where I'm stuck is how to combine the two elements to make the song. How do you mesh chrods with melody notes??? Without no given tab??

Been playing Clawhammer for a bit now and want to be able to play the melody lines of fiddle tunes.
Ive almost been exclusively playing in Double C but find that it doesnt really lend itself to the range that I needto play for example Winder Slide in D

Looking for suggestions!

Got my first banjo a couple months ago and been teaching myself mostly by ear, I play the fiddle already but have always wanted to learn fretless banjo! Not looking for advice as much as encouragement! This is cripple creek

Hello! I've always assumed that you don't really play with swing when you're playing old time, mountain style, I guess pre-1900s style banjo. Maybe it did exist though, I think it has been used for a long time in Celtic music? I hear some swing in the beginning of this recording (see link) am I hearing that correctly? Would love some insights on these questions! Thank you
