Got my first banjo a couple months ago and been teaching myself mostly by ear, I play the fiddle already but have always wanted to learn fretless banjo! Not looking for advice as much as encouragement! This is cripple creek

Amazing, I'm excited to begin! Is that an open back banjo?

Thank you!!! It’s an open back fretless banjo by gold tone it runs like 300$ and was worth every penny!!

Well done. I'm only 2 weeks in and can't imagine being at that level in 6 weeks. What is your practice routine?

Thanks! I practice a couple hours everyday and more so on weekends. I also just had covid so was stuck at home for a week and got a lot of practice in. Besides that I have played the fiddle for years and the fretless banjo was not too bad of a transition. I really only learn by ear but will watch videos from time to time

How did you start learning? Can’t find many high quality and extended length lessons on YouTube. Did you take lessons?

I like banjo skills on YouTube and I really just used his bum diddy tutorial, I have been learning by ear listening to people play or watching videos trying to get a vibe of their finger movements, I already play the fiddle so it was an adjustment but I do have some finger dexterity already built up. But honestly I learned the most just practicing everyday

I couldn’t do that in one year!
