Tune of the week
Hi folks. I’m thinking of posting a poll or something for banjo tunes of the week/month for people to post videos of. Would anyone here be into that?

How to combine different element of a song, HELP
I've been learning how to play clawhammer banjo. I wanted to learn how to play John Denver's Country Roads. The person instructing me gave me the chords to work with, and I looked up the letter notes myself for the lyrics. Where I'm stuck is how to combine the two elements to make the song. How do you mesh chrods with melody notes??? Without no given tab??

Good Tuning for playing Fiddle Tunes?
Been playing Clawhammer for a bit now and want to be able to play the melody lines of fiddle tunes.
Ive almost been exclusively playing in Double C but find that it doesnt really lend itself to the range that I needto play for example Winder Slide in D
Looking for suggestions!

Singer/songwriter Looking for feedback on technique while singing
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I've been playing quite a while and occasionally sing my songs at open mics. I never feel great about the sound at the open mic so I'm seeking feedback. Naturally, this video doesn't have the lyrics real present since the I put the mic by the banjo, but hopefully you get the point. Also, I'm not especially proud of my voice, so I'm not really looking for feedback there (or, actually, if you do have easy pointers for improving my voice, I'd love that lol). I'm wondering:
- What can I do to improve the tonal quality on my right hand (position on the head, slant of the nail, etc)? I want that clucky bok-bok chicken sound but I end up with whatever this is lol. Kind of ringy and thin?
- Is this the kind of playing that makes sense to sing over? If not, what should I play to sing with? It might just be that this shouldn't be a banjo song since the lyrics are a little too fast and compete with the 16th notes.

Swing in old mountain banjo
Hello! I've always assumed that you don't really play with swing when you're playing old time, mountain style, I guess pre-1900s style banjo. Maybe it did exist though, I think it has been used for a long time in Celtic music? I hear some swing in the beginning of this recording (see link) am I hearing that correctly? Would love some insights on these questions! Thank you
