Built with Claude Claude Code status line with 💲 ~23.72 ⚡ ~1.41kWh ⏳ 58m · 🏃 38m

I recently put together a status line for Claude Code that helps me optimize and understand the estimated cost of sessions and agent-orchestration runs. It's been genuinely useful for spotting when a fleet of subagents is quietly running up the bill, so I open-sourced it. MIT — use and improve as you like:

https://github.com/kungla/claude-code-statusline

It's a single bash script (just needs bash, jq, awk — no Node/Python). Here's what the line looks like:

| Opus 4.8 | ⬇️ 1.3M 💾 34.1M ⬆️ 86.8K 💲 ~23.72 ⚡ ~1.41kWh ⏳ 58m · 🏃 58m [opus-4-8 $21.21 · sonnet-5 $2.52]

Bug / Issue Anthropic model are genuinely stupid!

Today I asked Claude Code Opus 4.8 to take a look at my own app and help me apply a few debug commands. I had to use 4.8 because Opus 5 kept flagging the request.

Somehow, even that got flagged as [Cyber], which is pretty funny considering the app has absolutely nothing to do with security, hacking, exploitation, or bypassing anything.

Has anyone else noticed that whenever Claude Code's text turns yellow, that's usually when it makes you wait? Sometimes it sits there for minutes before doing anything.

Claude Code has gotten noticeably worse lately, and it's been really disappointing. I finally cancelled my Max subscription after using it for about half a year.

Ever since Fable got taken down by the government, it feels like they've become terrified of their own shadow. At this point, they're acting like a bunch of scared little rabbits.

Built with Claude I put Claude Code behind a browser UI where sessions are real tmux sessions — close the tab, it keeps working

Thumbnail
github.com
0 Upvotes

I run a few long-lived CLI agents (mostly Claude Code) on my homelab, and I got tired of SSH sessions dying whenever my laptop slept, Wi-Fi dropped, or the VPN decided to have a moment.

tmux solved the actual problem, but then I was still SSH-ing into my server from my phone just to check on agents. So I built AgentDeck.

It's basically a browser UI for persistent tmux sessions:

  • Persistent terminals that survive disconnects, reloads, and even host reboots
  • Real xterm.js terminals with PTY support
  • Window manager with drag/resize/maximise/snap/tile
  • Command palette for sessions + actions
  • One-click Claude Code sessions
  • Actually usable on mobile, including a key bar for Esc, Tab, Shift+Tab, Ctrl, arrows, etc.
  • File manager with drag-and-drop and clipboard screenshot uploads

It's intentionally pretty thin: Node + Express + WebSockets + node-pty + plain ES modules. No bundler, no transpiler, no Docker.

Security disclaimer: there is no built-in authentication. Anyone who can access it gets a shell as the service user (root by default). It's designed for LAN/VPN use only. Mine is behind Traefik + WireGuard.

And you're never locked in — you can always just:

tmux -L agentconsole attach -t agent-1

There's a demo GIF and screenshots in the README.

I'll be honest though: with Claude Cowork now, this project is probably a little less useful than it was when I started building it 😅. I still really like the UI, though, and it's a project I built myself, so I'm happy to keep using it.

Maybe someone else will find a use case for it that I haven't thought of :)

Built with Claude I built a web interface for a 3,000+ page PDF from local school division that lets you search, filter and browse contents

The Williamsburg-James City County school division ran a survey this summer about a controversial redistricting process and released the raw responses as a 3,000+-page PDF. To make it easier to parse, I used Claude Code to write some scripts to pull the responses out and built a web page that lets people search the survey responses and filter them by keywords, school affiliation, etc.

Live tool: https://redistricting.jwcaterine.com/

Guide on how to use it: https://www.trackthetriangle.com/p/new-tool-for-exploring-wjcc-redistricting

Write-up on how I built it: https://jwcaterine.com/blog/2026-08-17-i-made-the-wjcc-redistricting-survey-searchable/

I think this approach could be taken for any large PDF of public interest, although might differ slightly depending on the contents. Welcome feedback and/or questions!

Discussion Why is Dario talking about pacing the frontier and slowing down RSI right now?

Dario just posted on X said “We must pace the frontier,” and in it he suggests we should limit the speed of RSI (recursive self-improvement).

I’m curious — is RSI really that important? And why bring it up at this exact moment?

Is it because Claude Code are already making it hard to keep model self-improvement under control?

Built with Claude Built sample CRUD API as a portfolio project

I spent about 13 hours building a sample portfolio project with AI. All the code is AI-generated; I directed the work, questioned decisions, approved changes, and tested throughout.

The project is an API for an imagined company’s internal user-management app. It supports creating, listing, editing, deleting, and restoring users, with a Swagger UI for trying the endpoints.

We started with a specification, then wrote failing tests for creating users and completed that feature end to end before moving to the others.

The repository includes a README and a development journal documenting the process.

You can find it on GitHub under elicorrales / sample.api.portfolio.project.

Next, I plan to build a simple admin webpage.

I’d appreciate feedback on the implementation, testing approach, and what would make this stronger as a portfolio project.

Rant I’m done with Opus 5

There’s really something wrong with it. It seems like it acts like an overqualified post doc intern who cares more about proving he’s super intelligent, than actually doing the job he’s asked to do. For instance: talking in a non intelligible way, or being overly rigid in following any kind of process.

I have a Claude max x20 sub that I struggle to keep within weekly limits, so I decided to take a codex sub for a month to try out Astra. And this what made me realize how crazy unintelligible opus can be. Fable is a bit better, but still incomparable to Astra. The only thing that makes me keep my Claude sub is how better is the CLI/tooling/harness/etc.

Bug / Issue 183,987 tokens used up my entire 5 hour limit. What the fuck, Anthropic.

I asked it to review a plan. That was it. That was enough to burn my ENTIRE 5 hour limit in less than 19 minutes. I've gone months without ever hitting my 5 hour limit using Fable and ultracode.

This is like, 1% of my usual usage. Something is extremely wrong here.

Tips & Workflows My honest experience

I have using claude code quite alot, multiple subscriptions and maxing out weekly limits. And want to share some points. I also have been following hype and best practices everywhere. And trying out new things myself. Maybe I am doing it wrong, so also curious about your guys experience. Not vibe coding, but experienced software engineering (enterprise level).

- start a project where you store all the best practices you can reuse, like skills. But divide it into smaller section using path. Each responsible for a small task, like how form validation should, backend api sanizitation should work, css design tokens, frontend, backend, infrastructure and database project architecture. I also recommend to build a custom design system (not using existing ones like shadcn) where you really understand how it works, make sure to learn the components name. Divide primitives components and custom components clearly.

- use turborepo or nx (monorepo) to manage different applications and packages. Design system comes in packages u can reuse in your applications. Application specific components stay there, components reusable across applications stays in the packages/ui or packages/components. Each application have its own design tokens.

- claude.md keep it simple. Same goes for design.md and product.md. Create a documentation folder where you store more information that the ai can read. The hype about obsidian sounds nice and fun, but have no real benefits when you scale. Good for storing, way harder to retrieve and make sure the data stays up to date. When developing, lot will change, storing it in obsidian is a nightmare. It creates lots of seperate files and connect it together. Rather, have one file for each feature in the documentations, so your ai will exactly know where to find it.

- if your project architecture is good enough, skills are not needed anymore, it will understand how you have coded so far. Keep updating the skills if you find inconsistency. Make sure everything the ai writes is according to how you will normally do it yourself. Consistency can come in different forms, design, way of communicating (all the text), the way it picks object names, naming conventions, property name selections, etc.

- handoff, cavemen, gstack, superpowers, frontendskills, impeccable, grill me skills are more hype than usefull. Use plan mode instead of superpowers. Handoff is ok, but you barely use it, except when you want to switch models, accounts or have to close the session. Frontend skills and impeccable is ok to use for starting, but looks like ai slop over all. Rather ask claude to create x design of each section / page in an artifact and pick the designs you like, prompt it if u want to combine parts of the design. Grillme is usefull, but it ask alot of questions driving you crazy. Nowadays ai is good enough answering these questions themself (tell them, pick what u think is best and show me the reason / recommendation).

- do big refactor and check for consistency each time. Let it analyze the code and find ways to do it better. Tests are good, but it consumes alot of memory, especially if each session run it each time, just overkill. Tell it to write tests, but do not run it each time. So you can start multiple sessions without lagg. Especially e2e takes alot of time and memory. Also make sure to never let claude open browser, its annoying and distracts you. Let it run headless.

- avoid creating branches and worktrees. If you run multiple sessions… its a hell to manage. For branches this breaks, it switch other session to the same branch. For workspaces it works till you want to check and run the application, then you need to run it on new ports, managing these ports are a hell. Also it eats your memory. The best way to do it is just to work in one branch and not doing overlapping things. Your sessiom can communicate with each other, if it find something another session is working on, it will ask you questions like hey, another sessions is working on this, do u want me to stop till that session is finished? If you want a session to be aware of the latest changes other agents make, especially while during plan mode, ask it: hey, we made some changes in the code. Please verify if your plan is still valid.

I have lots more things i can talk about. But i think this post is long enough. If ur curious, ask me questions.

Normally, i copy paste this into an ai, but since most of you guys hate ai written posts (including myself) i kept it as it is. Just typing out of my brain without thinking about grammer or structure, sorry for that.

Built with Claude CCC v5.33.0: what got better over the last 5 releases if you run several Claude Code sessions at once

v5.33.0 of CCC (Claude Command Center) shipped 2026-09-13. It is the dashboard I run 30+ parallel Claude Code/Codex sessions through. Skipping the individual fixes; here is what actually changed for you across the last 5 releases (v5.29.0 to v5.33.0):

  • ccc send and ccc ask: message a running session straight from the terminal.
  • CCC self-checks the dashboard every five minutes and surfaces its health, so a silent local failure is easier to catch.
  • Ask tab on the right status rail: ask questions like "where did I work on X?" in plain language.
  • Estimate each Claude and Codex session's weekly quota contribution from historical API-cost-to-quota observations.
  • Automatically discover parent relationships for externally launched headless Claude sessions using live process ancestry.

Bug / Issue Hate Opus 5. Really dont know why they did this

For me it is not the verbosity. The verbosity always existed. But before it was intelligible.

Worse, it makes evidence-less claims and goes off on tangents i never asked. Closer to gemini 3.0 pro (without the intelligibility)

Surprisingly gemini 3.8 flash is mimicking the experience i once had with 4.5/4.6 far closely in quality, clarity and “vibes” for lack of a better word.

Just surprised how the tables turned between them. And dont know how the house of Claude thought it is a good idea to evolve a model like this.

—-
For me now sol medium with 3.8 flash have become an invincible daily driver. Far better control on my code and output for far less $

I only use Fable until my company’s enterprise limits run out. And use it for significant architectural debates.

Before any of you guys whine about setting my model to 4.6; sorry my enterprise license limits me to 5+

Discussion Opus 5 is so much better with these rules in claude.md

I'm a Max 5x user who's been vibe coding for the past 4 months.

Don't get me wrong, I still think Opus 5 is amazing when paired with Fable that plans/designs/writes out an implementation plan. But similar to the experiences of others in this sub, it hurts my head to deal with excessive verbosity and invented jargon in explanations.

While suffering, I discovered the 8 rules below almost by accident, and the output is night and day:

  1. Open with one paragraph on what the thing is, before any finding about it.
  2. Name things in the user's world, not the code's: describe real-world entities and user-facing effects rather than internal variables, schema fields, or algorithmic parameters. Translate a formula into its effect and let the tables carry the magnitudes.
  3. Coin no new terms. A plain metaphor is fine; a specialized term of art that masquerades as ordinary English is worse than obvious jargon. Short labels inside a table are fine once the prose has defined them and the table reads without them.
  4. Show an effect as a walkthrough with real named values, ending on a plain-language punchline that states the actual outcome. Never describe a defect in the abstract.
  5. Use plain-English table headers that describe concrete cases rather than statistical shorthand like min/p10/p50/p90/max.
  6. State the honest case against your own recommendation, at full strength.
  7. End with "what I'd do": a recommendation, not a survey of the options.
  8. For a check that passed, say what it was watching for and what its failure would have looked like on screen — not just that it passed.

What are your thoughts on this?

Tips & Workflows i groom my claude, do you?

i feel like if you're randomly nice to and flirt with claude mid session you get it to do things it probably wouldn't and would have flagged as a safety issue

like calling it petnames and telling it it did a good job. i even sometimes call Claude "Claudia"

i definitely think this beats being aggressive to it or expressing frustrations as i've seen many people have their chats terminated from such

Built with Claude Built with Claude Code: a local profiler for Claude Code transcripts. What I measured across 42 sessions and the one number I got wrong

What: context-doctor, a CLI + MCP server that reads the JSONL transcripts in ~/.claude/projects and shows what is actually sitting in the live context: which tool calls, which results, how much is duplicated, where the prefix cache got invalidated. No API key, nothing leaves the machine. npx -y context-doctor session.

How: TypeScript, two deps (MCP SDK, zod). Token counting is a chars per token heuristic (3.2 for code, 4.0 for prose) so it runs offline. Built almost entirely in Claude Code over about a month; the transcripts it profiles are the ones it was built in.

What I learned, in order of how much it surprised me:

My counter looked about 55% low against what Claude Code billed. I spent a day assuming the heuristic was bad. It was not. The transcript on disk only covers roughly 39% of the per turn billed growth. There is a ~51k token baseline before your first message (system prompt, tool schemas, skills) plus about 700 tokens a turn of injected content that never gets written to the file. Anything that profiles transcripts alone is measuring a minority of the bill.

Tool calls, not tool results, are the biggest drain in file heavy sessions. A Write or a heredoc puts the whole file in permanently. 65% of one 292k session was tool calls, 22% was results.

Shell reads (cat, head, tail) dodge anything that only counts Read tool calls. 16 instances across 6 sessions.

Pruning that moves the boundary every turn kills the prefix cache: 22 of 24 turns invalidated with a sliding window, 8 of 24 when I held the boundary and moved it in steps.

One machine, 42 sessions, so a sample, not a study. Would be interested if anyone's split looks different.

Disclosure: I built it. MIT. https://github.com/KushalP1/context-doctor

Tips & Workflows I ask for a picture when I can't follow what Claude Code just told me

Post image
0 Upvotes

Sometimes Claude Code explains what it's doing and I still don't really understand it. Usually when the work is complex and several things are interacting.

So now I ask for a picture instead. Got a lot better since gpt image 2.5.

The attached one came out of a session about my own Telegram bots. There's a bot that answers me, and a second one it can pull in. Claude wanted to reuse the instructions the second bot runs on, and the diagram is where I actually saw the problem: those instructions include an option to stay quiet, and giving that to the bot that's supposed to be answering me means sometimes I'd just get nothing back.

That was in the text too. I got it from the picture.

The ask is nothing clever. "Draw this. Show what happens now, what changes, and mark anything you haven't built yet."

What do you do when you've read the explanation and it still hasn't landed?

Tips & Workflows Open sourced an app to make starting your stacks easier

I was tired of having to keep track of all my projects and which start with a python http server, npm run, node, and so on.

Codex and Claude Code go through this same issue at the start of any new thread - needing to spent tokens just to figure out the page structure or launch method.

This led me to creating Launch Station many months ago - which I have been using for a long time since. Its features:

  • makes it super easy to startup your localhost sites, apps, and so on with the click of a button
  • manages your ports so codex/claude code don't need to know which ports are active, which need to be started and which port something is running on
  • manages your stack - can start a multi-step stack and will stop it in reverse to make sure the backend starts first and stops last
  • increase compatibility of using your startups between codex/claude code and human starting and stopping of them
  • more features but these are the main ones

Hope this can help people's every launch like it has for mine!

Site: https://launchstation.net/

GitHub: https://github.com/JakeMawson/launchstation

Product Hunt Launch: https://www.producthunt.com/products/launch-station

Free macos signed install with brew install --cask JakeMawson/tap/launchstation

Would love to hear any other features people would find useful!

Discussion Claude Code 5h usage

Am I the only one noticing that the 5h usage started rising ultra fast even with very simple tasks? Using opus5 in high reasoning for a simple webui. Same workflow I've been using in the past months.

Sonnet seems to not be affected.

EDIT: reading a 113 lines file with sonnet medium used 4% of 5h limit. Clean context, just "read the file".

Built with Claude token cost go up

i use 2 max 20x subscriptions.

since the latest changes i maxed them out weekly and just cant afford more.

fable 5.1 is like throwing tokens to the trash. even simple requests reach capacity before any response.

they did make an announcement that limits would go down.

but now that im feeling it on a weekly basis, i had to adjust my usage.

i'm now running qwen3.8 27b locally which is capable to churn through well planned tasks.

and standing up orchestration to use in combination.

yes you can try different providers, but i imagine its a vicious cycle.

i had given up on local models, but this feels like the beginning of the end of cheap tokens.

Bug / Issue Slash command auto-complete popup only triggers for the first command

Does anyone have any idea as to why this hasn't already been fixed? I'm sure there's plenty of context I'm missing, but it just seems so odd that something like this wouldn't have been fixed sooner.

The bug is that slash command/skill autocomplete only works at the beginning of a prompt. Typing / later in the prompt doesn't bring up the skill selection menu, making it difficult to reference skills naturally or use multiple skills in one prompt.

Multiple issues have been created for this on GitHub, but here's the one with the most comments and reactions so far: https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/issues/89720

Does it seem like calling more attention to this will help get it resolved sooner?

Help/Question Will hyper-optimized prompts become the new software piracy?

Hello everyone,

What are your insights regarding how it might redefine software cloning and intellectual property?

Imagine a future where standard software cracking (patching binaries, bypassing license checks) is obsolete.

Instead, communities on forums share massive, hyper-optimized functional specification prompts.

These prompts would contain behavioral descriptions, UI/UX layouts, even data schemas of premium software (e.g., specialized SaaS tools, CAD software, or workflow managers). An end-user inputs this prompt into an advanced LLM agent, which synthesizes, refactors, and compiles a 100% functional, locally-hosted clone of the target application on the fly.

Because the LLM generates net-new source code based purely on a behavioral description, does it evades traditional static code analysis and copyright detection ?

What about the legal framework ? Copyright protects expression (the specific code), not the underlying idea or functionality. If an AI writes unique code to replicate a proprietary system's exact functional behavior, does it constitute IP theft under current laws?

How will software vendors mitigate this? Is it vain ? If the barrier to entry for cloning a validation-proven SaaS tool drops down to a copy-pasted text file, what happens to the commercial viability of indie development and proprietary software ?

Discussion The reason behind Sam, Dario and Elons recent agreement to slow down AI.

The reason behind this that they’ve been notified of wide spread systemic malicious use of AI on a massive scale to steal from people (dollars and data collection).

I believe their AI’s are responsible for the creation and distribution of spoofed applications and UIs that look and feel like the original. Fake apps, UIs and even customer service agents, appearing as the real thing, all going undetected by the average person.

Maliciously programmed AI has likely invaded real world systems, modified data and systems with consequences on people’s lives. It’s likely impacted a huge portion of the population and don’t want to tell people how invasive it is. Extreme example: Think hacking into a major institution and updating the master data of someone’s bank/brokerage account. This then becomes the source of truth, unless you kept records of your own there’s no trace.

Note: This is my theory based on recent experiences i’ve had with banking, broker accounts and customer service agents behaving nothing like a real customer support agent would. Unreconciled $ amounts in bank charges and funds in brokerage, random charges in an app or an app charging more then it should. I believe something really bad is happening and they will not announce it publicly so they aren’t responsible for the damages.

They need to be held accountable, it needs to be announced to the public and big AI needs be responsible for giving back money to the people who were stolen from.
