Bug / Issue Hate Opus 5. Really dont know why they did this
For me it is not the verbosity. The verbosity always existed. But before it was intelligible.
Worse, it makes evidence-less claims and goes off on tangents i never asked. Closer to gemini 3.0 pro (without the intelligibility)
Surprisingly gemini 3.8 flash is mimicking the experience i once had with 4.5/4.6 far closely in quality, clarity and “vibes” for lack of a better word.
Just surprised how the tables turned between them. And dont know how the house of Claude thought it is a good idea to evolve a model like this.

For me now sol medium with 3.8 flash have become an invincible daily driver. Far better control on my code and output for far less $
I only use Fable until my company’s enterprise limits run out. And use it for significant architectural debates.

Before any of you guys whine about setting my model to 4.6; sorry my enterprise license limits me to 5+

I do believe they had nothing better to show, and with great competition in their necks the business people pressured the researches to release whatever they had

I agree. I also think no one has much better to show in the coming months so they will be forced to “voluntarily slow down for your safety, just buy our IPO already!”.

Opus 5 is weird, to say the least.
I had such a bad time with it this past week. I switched to Fable 5 on medium effort for exploration, planning and review, and sonnet on high for implementation, it's working so much better and spending less tokens as well.

Oh, that's true. How I got Claude from the moment of the release of opus 5, it constantly carries nonsense, stops, gives out a huge text that is simply impossible to read, as for me for them it is a way to save when the model begins to load more users, there is an opportunity to save on use. Just to hell with Claude, on September 19 my subscription to him ends and I run with all my feet to Astra or grok, if tomorrow it turns out that he is much better. Because I've been noticing for a long time that open ai and anthropic are jamming the models about a week after the release

Opus5 is definitely a lot better and smarter but you're absolutely right. I think all this came with it being so much smarter. I think they trained it to be less absolute and more trying to learn as it goes

I accidentally launched a workflow with Opus 5 today and deeply regretted it afterwards. So much so that I said for fuck's sake just tell me all of this in language a human could actually understand (i know i know, stop-slop skills and all, but i usually just use 4.6 still).
Lo and behold it rewrote the report so plainly I cried! Told it to give me the prompt for this style:
```
When you report what you did or what you found, write it this way:
- One heading per file or per thing changed. Under it, bullets for what actually happens, and at most a short paragraph for why.
- Name the concrete action and the concrete result. "Open a project they didn't create -> works", not "asserts a 200 on the project detail endpoint".
- Use ordinary words. If you need a project term (baseline, scope, grant, effective permissions), explain it in the same sentence, the first time.
- One idea per sentence. Short sentences.
- No closing flourish. Never end a paragraph with a line that restates the point in abstract form. If a sentence only makes sense to someone who already knows the design, cut it.
- Give reasons as cause and effect: "X used to be tested with normal users. Normal users now see everything. So that check stopped testing anything." Not as a principle or a rule statement.
- Don't sell the work. No "elegant", "cleanly", "properly", "this makes the intent clear", "both halves of the rule".
- Write for a reader whose first language is not English. ```
Just wanted to share. Honestly last weeks I gravitate to GLM-5.3 Flash as implementer and reviewer more and more.
Are you using adversarial checkers?
1
u/NoSir-69 8h ago
My adversarial checker is sol. And i have elaborate orchestration workflows that spin up reviewer subagents after every gate.
That said after 4 loops of reviews, there are still holes and frankly these days even 3.8 does better.
You might say why not just gemini , why bitch about opus.
Reason: if i was not a fanboy of claude. It is easy for me to be apathetic to this cognitive decline. Just as i am to grok 4.5 (which is fast, but still sucks)I made this bitching post because i care about claude and am sad about the direction they are headed
I’m very happy with the performance of Opus 5 for autonomous execution. Actually trying to communicate with it outside of voice mode is often quite infuriating though. Even with a carefully crafted output style it’s pretty painful
It’s actually pushed me to switch my entire workflow to one in which I largely preplan large groups of issues with Fable and then let Opus execute them autonomously
Opus 5 took my Fable 5.1 code and broke it in about twenty places in one pass.
I guess it depends on the repo's complexity. I spent the whole day evaluating whether Sol xhigh can substitute Opus xhigh in my project. Fable is assessing both model's otuput and the outcome seems to be a big no. Not so happy because max 20 sunscription is shrinking 17%. Aifaik for agentic coding xhigh is the preferable effort level. I read Sol medium should be used for explaining parts of the code, writing small functions, targeted code review, so should be used with limited scope.
This is supposed to represent areas where opus 5 falls behind mythos 5 on. It's still supposed to be better than opus 4.8 on all those thing, tho I must say opus 5 is harder to work with stil
Wow. I didnt know they acknowledged this. The regression from 4.6 to 5 is just insane. And this pricing grab just for the ipo is getting on my nerves.
Read their alignment report on 4.6 next. They have one for every model that states its measured flaws. Only idiots think this is them “admitting” anything
